  1. Oh, I’m not suggesting that you disagree with what I’m saying, just trying to add a little sarcastic humor in the end, lol.

  2. Yea I’m with you Ken. I’m not knocking the cops though I do knock the system a bit. I mean all the jurisdiction and city mapping is just ridiculous. I highly respect police officers and what they do, but most of the time they solve crimes not prevent them. A cop can only do so much. Being atheist I think when your gone that’s it the end no after life or heaven or hell so when I do yea I don’t really care what happens with the guy who killed me. I mean I guess I don’t want to see him hurt others, but I no longer exist so I won’t really care. I want to just stop him from killing me instead. It’s better that way.

  3. @greenknight…I agree with you.

Some of this sounds a bit ‘fundamentalist’ to me too. The gun debate rages on in the USA.
I had no idea there were so many people against guns as you all claim…’the bleeding hearts who say a little girl was accidently shot by her Daddy’s gun’ lobby.

    Put me on that train.

Thanks Vic for clarifying you would not shoot someone over a possession. Self defence is the only reason you should use a gun. If you had one!

  4. You guys keep mentioning ‘criminals’ VS ‘Law Abiding citizens’

Do you think that the gaols (jails) work as a deterrent in the USA? Is it a microcosm of society itself?

What is the racial mix in gaols? Does that reflect the real distribution of wealth in the USA?

Just curious in an academic sense, not trying to start a riot here!

  5. Our current justice system absolutely doesn’t deter crime. In some ways it encourages it. Convicted criminals in prison have more rights and priviledges than just about anyone. Free room, free food, no work, free gym, free basketball court, free cable tv, I mean, seriously, other than the being forced to be there for X amount of time part, what is actually so scary about a prison? Oh, you’re surrounded by other criminals? Come on, if you’re there, you’re one too, so you’re among your own.

Not only that, people NEVER serve their full sentence. They are almost always released early unless they die in prison. The death penalty grants them unlimited appeals which cost millions on US tax payers, and they sit on death row for so long that a lot of the times they eventually find some loop hole to exploit.

And everytime someone suggests to make prisons more restricting and more like, well, a prison, people bitch and moan that it is “cruel and unusual punishment.” Of course ignoring the poor woman criminal A dismembered, or the guy criminal B shot in the head over $40…

Literally in a court setting, the defendent has more rights than victims or witnesses.

“’the bleeding hearts who say a little girl was accidently shot by her Daddy’s gun’ lobby.

    Put me on that train.”

And the point of that statement is that firearms are used to save countless of lives, and that firearm accidental shootings occur far less often than just about every other type of accidental death or injury. So at the cost of all of those lives that would have been saved with a firearm you can satsify your bleeding heart’s desire to prevent the boo hoo stories they try to use on the public? Eh, 100 dead people to POSSIBLY save 1 life, eh, that’s an ok trade right?

I think a more logical approach to that is to promote proper firearm training and firearm safety to try to prevent such accidents without taking away peoples’ ability to defend themselves from people who mean them harm… But hey, I guess logic and facts lose out to emotionally fueled arguments every day, unfortunately..

  6. “Our current justice system absolutely doesn’t deter crime. In some ways it encourages it.”

At what point do you declare a conspiracy?
    Look up the word,,,
The definition doesn’t include anything about Kennedy or aliens.

And Prison isn’t that cool Ken. Give me a break…

  7. It isn’t cool for people like us, but for criminals, it ain’t that bad.

  8. Ken

“But hey, I guess logic and facts lose out to emotionally fueled arguments every day, unfortunately..”

It’s a difference in opinion..some of us don’t like, want or need guns..that’s it..that’s why I say your arguement is fundamentalist rhetoric..Hey keep your guns, have fun, knock yourself out but hey just be careful and don’t shoot yourself in the foot.. :)

  9. Ken

“It isn’t cool for people like us, but for criminals, it ain’t that bad.”

How would you even begin to know that?..you know some criminals who are keeping you in the loop about real life in jail?

That is just an insane assumption to make unless of course you have experience that you are not letting us in on..

  10. Man oh man did I not adhere to my own rule about this being about movies or TV. :-P

    Vic

  11. Well next weekend its going to be Transformers mania.

    8-O

  12. I have a buddy who is an ex-prison guard. Ken, believe me, those guys in jail are not in club med. Even for them. Some of the stuff my buddy told me would make you sick. HIV infected inmates throwing their blood and feces at guards and other inmates, guys being stabbed for looking at someone weird, etc. I think the bastards deserve what they have coming to them, but an easy life it is not.

  13. Vic

Very sorry about four or five of us hijacking a few threads here for topics not related or indirectly related to the threads..

    Again my apologies… :)

  14. I had a buddy who lost his job and was going to lose his house so he did some dumb things to get him self locked up. He has been in and out about 3 times now he loves it there. Maybe not all prisons are great, but there certainly are a few where the criminals actually love it. To those who sit around saying there is nothing fun or enjoyable about prison come visit my local one. Those guys get cable TV in their cells.

  15. Hey, Vic Happy Birthday, man!!! I hope you had a great day with your family and my best wishes to you and them.
Also, to everyone here that is a father, well… I hope you guys had a very Happy Father’s Day!!!

  16. @GK

And my argument has NEVER been to FORCE anyone to own a firearm. The point is that anti gun people are trying to FORCE everyone to not have them. So I’m the one advocating giving the people the freedom to choose whether or not they want to be armed for self protection or for hobby. You don’t like guns? Fine, don’t get them, but don’t act like everyone else needs to be like you. And I won’t shoot myself in the foot because I never aim the muzzle of any of my weapons at any part of my body. Firearm safety 101. Treat all firearms as if they were loaded, don’t point your weapon at anything you don’t intend to destroy, keep your finger or any object away from the trigger until you’re ready to fire, never assume a weapon is loaded, always check AND VERIFY with a second person that a weapon is clear. Simple stuff, you’ll have to screw up like 3 or 4 of those at the same time for an accident to happen. And accidents do happen, just like accidents happen on the road because people speed or follow too closely behind other drivers. It’s impossible to prevent because people are idiots.

And I wasn’t talking about jails, jails are nasty, I was talking about prisons. Prisons are built for long term incarceration so they typically have more amenities while jails are meant for 364 days or less so they typically are very bare bones. Some say the worst sentence is 364 days since that means they will go to jail for the longest time allowed instead of prison. They would prefer to be sentenced a week longer just to end up in a prison instead. Judges do that on purpose for those crimes that call for a sentence that borderlines a year, they will intentionally decrease the sentence to just under a year if the defendent wasn’t respectful or something, lol. To laymen it sounds like they are doing them a favor, but in fact it makes it much worse. Good for them…

    @Andy S

I have a lot of friends who were and some are still CO’s and they tell me inmates are crybabies, lol. They whine and cry about EVERYTHING. Oh, oops, CO’s stand for correctional officers, I have to use acronyms carefully, lol.

    @Daniel

Your buddy is retarded, lol, I’m not sure if I’ve personally heard of anyone “loving” it in there, but my friends who are CO’s tell me that it’s pretty calm in there and they see “regulars” in there and they’ve had several inmates tell them “it’s better than living on the streets” or something to that effect.

    @Vic

Hey, sorry for continuing, but we’re keeping it civil! :-) And Happy Father’s Day!

  17. Doh, should read never assume a weapon is unloaded.

  18. Ken, why don’t we give Vic and everyone else here a break and end the gun discussion…

  19. Well ken not my buddy anymore, but the prison out here is basically a spa. It’s Taft Prison the prison that Tommy Chong was in when he got arrested. Even Chong says it’s easy.

  20. Its true there are different levels of prison standards.

Hey Daniel, why don’t we give Vic and everyone else here a break on the prison discussion.

Let’s get back to things that involve movies and tv. ???
This open discussion has been fun but let’s not drag it down further with the quality of prison life,,,
    I’m getting a headache.
    :-)

  21. @790
You’re right, enough about the gun talk, but it was cool though, we remained civil, most of the time, lol.

  22. Yeah Ken, I’d like to think that we all understand each other better now.

Let’s try to keep this positive level of discussion going on other topics, and encourage others as well,,,,

As Screen Rant enables us to converse in this manner we shouldn’t argue all the time and abuse the privledge that Vic provides…

    All is good. ;-)

  23. Well I know it’s not the kind of movies we usually talk about, but I’m watching The Proposal tonight. I think it looks pretty good anyone else seen it?

  24. Is that the Sandra Bullock chick flick.
She can carry a film. Booyah!!

    I love Sandra.

  25. I wonder if that is enough to petition for Daniel’s “Man Card” to be revoked?? lol just kidding…

  26. Happy Birthday Vic!
I hope you had a great day with your family.

  27. I don’t mind admiting I enjoy a good romantic comedy now and then. I also find Ryan Reynolds to be hilarious.

  28. Hi guys, my apologies to Vic…I think it might be my fault the thread discussion became a Gun VS no guns argument. I mentioned Mike Moore’s Mocumentary, ‘Bowling For Columbine’, so…its sort of film related. :)

Oh, its your birthday? Happy Birthday!

  29. Thanks for the well-wishes folks! :)

    Vic
