Vic Holtreman of Screen RantIt’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.

As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. :)

  1. Hey Vic, I was wondering if you guys ever reviewed Slumdog Millionaire? Cause I would really like to read what you thought. I tried to find it bt couldn’t, just wanted to check and make sure before giving up.

  2. Anyone see Red Cliff 2 yet?

Watched Shinjuku Incident the other night. Last night was Secret Rivals 2 and 7 Grandmasters. Ordered some more gems from HKflix too. I’m on an all HK and Taiwan film diet until Tron and Iron Man 2 come out

  3. To 790: Twitter is the Devil Bro!

  4. Fringe does have its fans here including Bruce Simmons If I am not mistaken .

  5. Personally,
I will sign up immeadiately if Screen Rant moves to registration.

  6. Gottarhyme, I’ve thought of a couple of others that probably fit the bill even less…

Clint Eastwood’s White Hunter Black Heart, based on John Huston’s filming of The African Queen. Problem: it’s 19 years old.

Fellini’s classic, vaguely autobiographical 8 1/2, about a film director struggling to make his next film, who begins to retreat into his own dreams and memories. Problems: it’s 46 years old, black and white, it’s another 15 certificate, and it’s in Italian. With subtitles.

Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo, partly based on the true story of a nutter who dragged an entire steamship over a mountain in the Amazon in the late 19th century, with the intention of building an opera house in the middle of a rainforest (don’t ask). Problems: it’s 27 years old, and while it is definitely a representation of culture (clash), it’s not about filmmaking at all!

Sorry, I’m drawing a real blank with this one. Maybe if you offered beers and kittens…!

  7. I was told of an internet rumor about the script for Ghostbusters 3 – but I have not found confirmation yet. Here it is, “Peter Venkman dies in the first ten minutes, and his crazy persona becomes a ghost (after years of exposure to ecto-plasm) and plays pranks on the old retired Ghostbusters, so they come out of retirement and enlist a few of their sons and daughters (new young cast) to help “bust” peter” Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? It does sound cool though.

Also my Ghostbusters video game is constantly freezing and I’m having no luck getting any answers or accountability from HMV or Atari. UUGGGHHH!!!

  8. Hey Vic, have you guys already post the new character poster for Sherlock Holmes? It’s been out for a few days now but I don’t think I have seen it here.

  9. @ The Pitt Man: You suck

  10. it seems the mach3 suit in IM2 is chunkier, more reinforced..
any word on any enhanced suit functions?
i’m leaving my apt. now to get in line at the 34th street theater in midtown nyc. anyone needing to contact me can reach me there for the next 10 months.

  11. Yeah Gary me and Bruce disagree all the time about Tv shows.

I find the whole Fringe thing amusing as its a complete hybrid of X-Files and Lone Gunman…
Both superior shows in every way.

Watching Fringe only makes me realise how much better those shows were… Enjoy Fringe Gary/etc. :-)

  12. @ Evie

Why do I suck? Can you formulate a reasonable answer? Or should I expect another baseless and vague insult?

  13. Lol, Tim if you want to go that way.
    ^
Gary, its not that I wouldn’t register with SR my handheld device won’t allow it. ;-)
On a Blackberry to enable that function requires enabling Java-script and that slows loading down to a crawl. As all blogging sites upgrade they end up cutting off a lot of smartphones etc.
The majority of site owners don’t even realize this.
I’m not alone, shop around to some of the other sites that have converted to registration and you will see a dramatic drop in comments.
    It rebounds but very slowly.
Using a Blackberry enables me to email or blog on the fly, converting to a bulky laptop doesn’t work for me.

  14. @ The Pitt Man: Because you didn’t warn anyone about possible spoilers before your question.

  15. @The Pitt Man, could be that Evie didn’t like the possible Spoiler you posted?
Might want to put up a next time.

Also I don’t know what system you have but I have experienced a problem recently with Far Cry2. I got to a certain point in the game and the disc wouldn’t load. It just freezes. I’ve got plenty of memory and the 360 is only 3 months old. 8-O
After re launching the game and having it happen 2 more times in the same area, I sold the dumb game for credit and picked up Gears of War 2. Played it and didn’t have any problems.
I’m pretty sure it was a bad disc or encryption error during the manufacturing process.

  16. @Vic: feel free to delete my posts >.< Spoilers are pet peeves of mine…

    My apologies

  17. @Evie
sorry about that but I didn’t put much stock into that rumor. I didn’t think it was worth an alert. Are you a Ghostbusters fan? Did you know that Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker, Jr. for stealing his song “I want a new drug” and making the theme, “Ghostbusters”?

  18. @Pitt Man: even so, its still a possible spoiler (keyword: possible)

    Yeah, I heard about that.

  19. To 790: Don’t forget Millennium with Frank Black. 10 years a head of it’s time. I must admit to you, Fringe is a gulity pleasure. If you look at it, I do love JJ….( not Lost fan since it is based on an X-Files episode) but with the other choices on TV now days. If is about the best thing going. LENS FLARES! Hell ya! Besides History channel programming of course.

  20. So Millennium was 10 years ahead of its time? How’s that work with the title??? :-)
Yeah it was a great show btw,,,

I’ve seen a few of the Fringe episodes and just found them going through the motions of a hacky X-Files show. But if Fringe and History channel are your only options sheesh that sucks.
Personally I don’t watch broadcast tv at all since the digital conversion. I was so sick of all the drug ads, reality shows and commercials that I quit. I only watch dvds now.
I’m currently involved with, Oz (Season 3), Tek-War (The Complete ßeries), BSG (Season 4.5), Torchwood (Season 1) and Doctor Who (Season 3). If I get sick of tv shows on dvd, I have aprox 30+ films on dvd that I haven’t seen yet.
I have become my own program director. Ha ha!!!

  21. Tim,what X- Files Episode is Lost based on?

  22. I always thought “Lost” was based on Survivor, Giligans Island and Fantasy Island. With a dash of “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!”

  23. Lost has always reminded me of a 1977 NBC TV series called Fantastic Journey.
It was about a group of castaways stranded on an island with time portals as well as gateways to other planets.

  24. And some curly-haired guy with a tuning fork!

  25. I would sign up if you go to a registration system. I’m already registered with other forums, so why not here.

  26. So does anybody know if the Live Action TEKKEN Film is coming out this year or not? I saw online it was supposed to be released at the same time as Tekken 6.

  27. Millennium was one of the best shows EVER. I still break out the DVD’s from time to time. They could are them today and they would hold up, actually they would put other shows to shame.

  28. Obviously, or not so obviously, that first “are” was suppose to be “air”.

  29. INK,
I thought the first two season of Millennium were the best.
