It’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.
As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice.
Around the web:

I want to know what War Machine looked like from the Comic Con footage they showed. Was he comic like or different? Was there a machine gun on his shoulder and so forth?
I’ve only saw some poor quality images, but he looks for the most part like the comics, but a little more stylish and streamlines, but with the same basic look.
I would like to know why we are being told we have to go to twitter to get some news when we should be able to get it on this site. I mean while the Batman thing was a bust in the end still the news should of been posted on screen rant instead we got a link to go somewhere else and get the news.
I consider Twitter to be a crappy site and see no purpose behind it other than to annoy people. I love screen Rant I am a regular reader of this site and plan to remain that way. I have been here for awhile and trust this site so I have to wonder why follow screen rant on Twitter when I can follow it here.
I just read ‘The Secret of NIMH’ is being remade. Can somebody please explain this influx of remakes? It seems the movie industry went from remaking Japanese films to remaking our own with no increase in substance or quality. This is my screen rant.
The secret of nickel metal hydride? I mean, it’s used in a lot of rechargeable batteries…
@ Daniel f
Dude I’m with u. I hate twitter so much.I’ll never use not even to read stuff that should be here at screenrant
@ crystalbaud,
It is a strange phenomena hollywood has gotten into. Really it just comes down to laziness, money and the dim-witted average joe. I know that sounds harsh towards the average movie goer but it’s true. This would’nt be happening if people knew a good movie from a bad movie. But i guess there is really no way of fixing that. Hopefully James Cameron will give us a massive breath of fresh air with Avatar.
Also i totally agree with the twitter business. I love screen rant, it has my full support as my favorite movie website but making us go to twitter for comic-con updates makes me cry a little inside (not really that severe but still). Twitter really has no purpose when you have an awesome website like screen rant do put your news up on.
Also just feel like saying i watched Anchorman for the first time in ages last night. Love the gang war scene. classic!
was ironman 2 more awesome than avatar…?
I am looking for a PG film that is modern, (the last 5 years)and deals with film as a representation of culture, time and place to show a class of 16 year-olds in order to teach them how to critically assess visual media.
Has anyone have a suggestion? I have five weeks to create a unit of work. I am a bit brain-dead, and I need some help from bigger brains who are mad about film!
Theres hugs and puppies in it for ya!
@ gottarhyme
Slumdog Millionaire? Not sure if that’s exactly what you’re looking for though
lots of movies. but until Iron Man2 and Kick-Ass. District9 and Whiteout have my attention.
Does this T.V. show exist? A well made high quality sci-fi/fantasy show, that’s in production right now, has relavent and modern storylines and DOESN’T look like it was made in yet another Vancouver or Toronto location… and doesn’t look cheap as heck!!! Is there one out there? New? Something of the caliber of Star Trek: TNG… For Please not Heroes!!! Uggghhh!
@Ken
lol.
@Daniel F
Completely agree about Twitter. Most people irritate me now. I can’t imagine knowing what they are doing EVERY minute. AAARGH!!!
And I hope Screenrant doesn’t start moving more in that direction, as far as to “see the rest of”, or “for more of” the story go to Twitter because they will lose me. And that would be a shame because I love the site.
Comicbookmovie.com lost me for the most part because they started letting any idiot with a keyboard start submitting “articles”. Badly written, non-sourced and stories full of BS followed and it just frustrated me too much to keep looking at it.
Gottarhyme, films dealing with films dealing with culture is a bit of a toughie. The only two that spring to mind at the moment are Al Pacino’s Looking For Richard, about putting on a production of Richard III, and Tristram Shandy: A Cock And Bull Story. The latter’s by Michael Winterbottom, who did the brilliant 24 Hour Party People, and features Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon playing themselves as actors failing utterly to make a decent film adaptation of the novel Tristram Shandy. Funny and illuminating.
Thing is, it’s a 15 certificate (I think it was even R rated in America) due to the swearing and a couple of brief, fully-clothed sex scenes. Put it this way, I didn’t have a problem with my 15-year-old stepdaughter seeing it at the time, but showing it to an entire class of kids could be a different kettle of monkeys. You might want to watch that one through first!
Well I think SR was saying Twitter for ComicCon because well, they were in the audience for these panels and Twitter updates was all we were going to be able to get.
Vic was probably trying to get us news ASAP on Twitter with more complete updates later once they were near a computer.
My guess would be we were told to go to Twitter because
When Oldman made his comments Vic was THERE and unable to access the main site at the time but he wanted to get the news out ASAP.
@ The Pitt Man
The only two that appear to fit the bill currently are Fringe and Eureka, although the Warehouse 13 episodes I’ve seen so far look promising as well. Gotta remember, TV executives love the SF shows when they are pitched and then are impatient to let them acquire their audiences, so many of them come and go before you can even find them or are promoted so poorly that word of mouth can’t rally the troops to their banner fast enough, for example, journeyman, firefly, dollhouse, dark angel, the lone gunmen…. All show promise (or did show promise, but those tenuous lifelines…)
I’d like for the Hulk to be in the Avengers film. They seem
unable to give a definite answer of his involvement.
Anyone who loves Fringe better start watching The X-Files seasons 1 to 9, and the first movie. Especially seasons 5 and 6 were brilliant.
Fringe is Alias meets X-Files, but Anna Torv doesn’t come close to Jennifer Garner or Gillian Anderson, and David Duchovny was way funnier with his tongue in cheek kind of style than any of the characters in Fringe who are just too serious, as in too dull.
I’ll be watching the next season though, ’cause J.J. Abrahms-shows tend to get better and better with each season.
Paul,
Heres a picture of War Machine, but like Daniel said its VERY poor quality:

What do you guys think about Avatar? Up until comic con I really thought it was going to do for movies what Star Wars I had done for movies back in ’77. My prediction: It’ll make bank but it won’t really revolutionize the way movies are made. To be honest, and this is just my opinion here I kinda think 3d is a little overrated (The crowd goes silent) I feel that with too many 3D movies The story and characters go by the wayside. Again, this is just my opinion feel free to disagree
Twitter works great if your dictatorship and or fascist government has cutoff certain access points during civil unrest but as a micro-blog I just don’t participate in that bs. Twits, facers and myspacers crack me up.
Most all blog and news sites have those accounts and its just seems like such a trendy fad.
Some sites have all three Twitter, MySpace and Facebook going on. (Lol, whatever?,!)
One trend that I’ve noticed a lot on certain blog and news sites is that they force readers to register to post comments.
I see this all over now, (blog comments powered by Disqus) well I guess that’s the new trend in comment management. Sadly it doesn’t work with Blackberrys. So once a site goes down that road I’m out.
I thought I might add in my prediction for the boxoffice: 115 million dollar opening weekend and 700-800 million worldwide by the end of its run.
Again Just an estimate.
*Last thing I want to do is piss off the Abrams fan base (sarcasm)*, but Fringe is one of the most generic average genre shows of its kind. They should call it,”the mystery science fiction team.” and change the graphics so that the title appears in a blue bar across a white background.
I would recommend, Torchwood, and Doctor Who over Fringe and Dollhouse anyday,
I think that Batman 3 post was the ONLY time we sent people to Twitter – you’re making it sound like it’s a regular thing. And yes, the reason it was put there was because you can do an instant update on twitter as easily as sending a text message and I was trying to get the info out ASAP.
As to War Machine, I don’t think fans will be disappointed, that bad boy was bristling with weapons including the shoulder mounted gun from the comics.
Vic
@790
Site registration does two things:
1. Makes it easier to keep spammers from dropping comments.
2. In cases like the Facebook API it makes it easier to share/spread content on the web.
Vic
Well when SR upgrades to registration I’ll be signing off.
Those 2 benefits don’t help me as a reader or commenter.
Did anyone here watch “Planet of the Dead” episode of Doctor Who on Sunday? I meant to watch it, but I forgot about it completely until the last ten minutes of the show.
Matt “Planet of the Dead” came out on dvd yesterday if you missed it.
