Vic Holtreman of Screen RantIt’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post. Things are going to be pretty hectic for us as we try to keep up with the usual daily movie/TV news in addition to bringing you extensive Comic-Con coverage over the next few days!

As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. :)

  1. Is anyone else excited about all the great movies this summer?? or disappointed???

  2. I’ve been mostly disappointed with the ’09 summer movies, if that’s what you meant.

And I was looking forward to it so much, too. Oh well. Hopefully 2010 will be better.

  3. Does Screen Rant have a myspace page too – I’d love to ad you if yes!!!

By the way – it’s went very quiet on Marvel movies other that Iron Man – I’m worried about Spider-Man!!!

  4. So far the movies this year have just been OK, a far cry different than last year’s stellar movies. But I still haven’t seen Moon, The Hurt Locker, nor Avatar yet.

Saw the first 2 days of Torchwood: Children of Earth last night. Even though I don’t know all the back story, this is a thrilling mini-series. The main guy (Cpt. Jack Hartness) is American, right? I will say I could have done without the kiss though. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. :-)

  5. Capt Jack is an alien Kahless.
He was introduced in a Doctor Who episode.

  6. @790
Ah! So that’s why the guy has the hots for him but no other man?

  7. Yeah he’s a bisexual alien from the future. He’s also got 9 lives as he’s been killed before and somehow manages to survive.

  8. @ 790

I think i did notice some difference mostly through transitions. I can say that the film was a bit more enjoyable the second time watching., but still some parts had me dozing off.

  9. Regarding bay, I also enjoyed The Rock the most too.

And I forgot to mention the issue 790 brought up with the iphone. Somehow with apple’s infinite wisdom they made all of their products with integrated batteries.

No matter how good a battery is, they have a lifespan, you can only recharge batteries so many times before they stop holding a charge. So it’s pretty important to be able to replace that battery when that happens. So I guess when the battery dies they expect you to throw it away and buy a whole new one, lol. Or you can keep it plugged in while using it?

  10. AT&T and the feds don’t like it when you take the battery out. It makes it all but impossible to track or listen in on you.

Since the iphone is a commercial sucess
all future apple products will have a non-removable battery. Enjoy!

  11. *all future handheld devices. ;-)

  12. Well i don’t plan on doing any terrorism so i will enjoy my iphone… It is a bad thing about the battery though…

  13. Kudos to AMC for their promotion of the Prisoner mini series .
As I left the con today
there were several guys dressed as Number Six.
As they handed out The prisoner mini tie in comic they said
    “welcome to The village “.
    “Be seeing you”.
I was so impressed I even took a second copy of the comic.
    WELL DONE!

  14. Ah, 8gb of class 6 Micro SDHC memory just went on sale for $15 after I bought mine for $20, lol. Doh! More than one can’t hurt, music on one, movies on the other, lol. I don’t see how you can deal with not having a memory slot. Transferring stuff from my computer to a memory card is so much easier than plugging in my phone and starting whatever file manager program came with the phone… I just plug in the memory card and it reads it like a harddrive, then it’s drag and drop, then put it back into the phone, and voila, music, pics, movies, transfers so much faster this way than via usb cable too…

Does anyone know WHY Apple is so against letting people expand their iphones via Micro SD memory cards? Is it really just so you’ll have to pay $900 to get one with 32GB of memory instead of keeping your phone you already have and buying a 16gb memory card for $40?? I’ve never really understood the actual reason, if it’s over money, or some kind of patent issue or what…

And for you iphone owners, if you don’t want to buy a new one and your battery is starting to not hold charge, there are ways to replace the battery. Of course it would void any warranty you might have on the phone and involve opening it all up and taking it all apart, lol. It’s not that hard though. The first time will seem intimidating, because it comes apart into many, many, little pieces, but after you get the hang of it, it’s alright.

Buy a broken one cheap, fix it, and sell it as a “used, perfect working order” iphone = $$$$ :-) Hey, I’m not lying when I say it’s in perfect working order, I test them all out. You find a lot of iphones with broken screens on ebay and craigslist. Replacement screens are cheap…

Watching movies on the iphone is pretty sweet, but touchscreen phones almost always have worse battery life than non-touchscreen, and that’s because the digitizer (the touch part) is constantly consuming energy for the touchscreen to work. And that’s one of the most important things to me in my phone, battery life. The Blackberry Bold’s battery life is insanely good… And watching movies on it, while not as sweet as on the iphone, is still VERY good, I have no complaints. The contrast ratio on the BB’s screen is extremely good, it’s like looking at a small laptop instead of a typical phone’s LCD screen. :-)
