  1. I saw the first harry potter…that was the last for me. I just wasnt into at all. I dont get the big time love for the series?

  2. The books were a phenomenon way before the films. The first film is not mean’t to be the be all and end all of the series.

Judging seven books by a reaction to one film (one aimed at CHILDREN) is to dismiss the broad brush strokes of J.K Rowlings masterpiece.

Try to watch at least up to ‘The Prisoner of Azkaban’ in which the series takes a darker turn, then make up your mind.

OR READ THE BOOKS! The films in no way compare with the books!

  3. I avoided all things Potter for a long long time. Ended up reading the books last year after making deal with my g/f that she would read some Star Wars stuff.

Ended up (after the first couple) really getting into them and had finished reading all seven before the year was over.

  4. Yeah, like Reaper, I ended up getting into the series because one of my girlfriends was really into them. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy them at all, but was very pleasantly surprised. That being said, I still didn’t like the first two films. However the film series got considerably better after them. I’d definitely recommend watching the third and fourth films, even if your not a fan of the books. However, unfortunately you’d probably have to watch/re-watch the first two to get what was going on.

  5. Really diggin “Weeds” season 4.

  6. @reaper:

Did your girlfriend get into STAR WARS? :)

  7. I have read all the harry potter books and I have absolutley loved all of them, while I understand the time constrants and the budget issues that go into making a movie, it pains me to watch the movies and see what scenes were left out from the book. I haven’t seen the new one yet (and i will) but from what I have read I am already disappointed by some scenes and characters that are being left out of the movie. Harry Potter fans and haters alike, if you want the full experience definitly check out the books.

  8. Who is the “biggest” smallest movie start in Hollywood right now? Lots of GOOD work, itty-bitty footprint that’s actually benefitting them?

Who are we missing on the acting radar?

  9. ^^^^^^ Megan Fox?

  10. I was never into Harry Potter and I didn’t like the first three films, but after “Goblet of Fire”(film) I’m really getting into the films.

  11. * HARRY POTTER: Film for the thinking man(and woman). I rated it 8 out of 10.

    * GI JOE will entertain (somewhat) but not bring in the box office it was looking for.

    * Hollywood execs are idiots (playing nice here Vic)and short of wanting originality in movies. Remakes basically fail and the execs who push them forward are grossly overpaid.

    * I look forward to Cameron’s AVATAR. I have a strange fantastic sensation about this flick.

    * Too many superhero movies coming out. I’m a fan but like a good song on the radio, familiarity breeds contempt.

    * TRANSFORMER: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN is for the nostalgic. I look at it and remember shows like SPACE GHOST, THE HERCULOIDS, MIGHTY MIGHTOR, JONNY QUEST which helps me suspend believability. That’s why the movie worked for me.

    * For convention geeks, http://www.ringcon.de shows us a fantastic event in Germany consisting of HARRY POTTER, TWILIGHT, AND LORD OF THE RINGS fans. This is the season for blood-suckers and wand wielders.

    * If your over the age of 40, remember we are the one’s who created pop culture. It’s hard for anyone who started their lives with computers to understand what and why we love the things that made life a bit comfortable. It was we who, in fact, created much of today’s “gimmicks” and saw it’s conception.

    * SCREEN RANT is a great place to geek out! Long live the RANT!!

  12. Next summer is looking sparse. Are there any good looking picks besides Iron Man 2, which I already know will be awesome?

  13. @Gottarhyme

She didn’t get into the books but she already enjoyed the films so decided to let her off after she tried a couple of them. She did get into Ultimate Spider-Man though

  14. Ten films that could be awesome in Summer 2010 (Besides Iron Man 2). Hopefully you’ll see something that you can get excited for.

    1) Robinhood (May 14)
    2) The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28)
    3) The A Team (June 11)
    4) Toy Story 3 (June 18)
    5) The Last Airbender (July 2)
    6) Predators (aka Predator 3) (July 7)
    7) The Green Hornet (July 9)
    8) Inception (July 16)
    9) Tales From Earthsea (July 30)
    10) Jonah Hex (August 6)

Additionally, The Losers and The Expendables both come out in April, and there’s a chance that Kick-Ass might be a Summer release as well now.

  15. Didn’t mean to do, the little smiley next to Inception, but seriously I think that’s one that just about all of us can be excited for.

  16. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake is coming out in Apirl next year, “Toy Story 3″ in June, “Predators” in July and “Inception”…note I got these from Wikipedia so may or may not be true.

  17. Going to see Harry potter tomorrow, I like the movies, don’t read the books, I like that they get older, and that the movies get less child friendly(darker) cause of it.

I look forward to district 9 and the new V series. Thubs up for warehouse 13, hope it get a good run for atleast 4-5 seasons and don’t get stubbed mid season…

  18. The only original movie out of that list appears to be “Inception” and that is the only movie I may be interested in considering its impressive cast and director. Oh and Iron Man 2.

  19. @Luke

Wow, is that really the movies we should anticipate in 2010? If so, 2010 will be a VERY boring year for me in terms of movies. At least I’ll have Iron Man 2, but that’s about it…

  20. There are also other non-summer releases that might be worth checking, such as The Book of Eli, Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Expendables, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part I) and I think another Chronicles of Narnia in December

  21. Besides Iron Man 2, I’d have to say my most looked forward to movie next year is “The Expendables.” Not going to bother with Elm St, and, as much as I loved the TV show, the A-Team is going to have to provie it’s not another “Miami Vice” before I go see it.

  22. Also, just contemplating that with that thin movie choice next summer, Iron Man 2 could be HUGE. I think it might even double what the first one did in the theaters.

  23. @vic
On regards to the Sinatra biopic… Do you know if the script is actually made already or they have yet to name who will write this…? On a side note speaking of this… I would love to see Don Rickles in the movie. Either telling a story or him playing the role of somebody else but in some way, shape or form would like to see him in it.

  24. @Jago

No idea, it’s not the type of film I generally follow.

    Vic

  25. Hey people, I was looking earlier today into Jon Favreau’s Twitter and it seems that Iron Man 2 is about to finish shooting. According to him, this is the last week, so now it’s a matter of time until we see a trailer or some footage (which I’m pretty sure will happen at Comic-Con).

  26. I just purchased Iron Knight one on DVD. I really love Robert Downey Jr.’s performance. I am really looking forward to the next instalment.

  27. @ gottarhyme. “I just purchased Iron Knight one on DVD”. You mean the film, Iron Man? Yeah, I too thought Downey was the best thing of it. He just had that spark and charisma that really connected to you almost immediately. And well, of course obviously from my avatar, you should guess that the film itself is one of my faves and the sequel is probably my most anticipated film of next year. The only thing is that I still regret Emily Blunt not landing the role of Black Widow. I’m not into Scarlett Johansson that much. But maybe that will change we get to see some footage from her in costume?

  28. @Iron Knight:

LOL! Is my face red! Yes, of course I meant IRON MAN *insert red faced smiley here*

I think That Downey is finally living up to his promise. I loved him in RESTORATION, which ironically, is a parody of his own life.

He is extremely talented. I am pleased to see him working on such quality projects.

  29. Recently I had a discussion with someone on SR about the safety of Twitter.

Well a few days ago,Twitter was hacked into and a tech blogsite posted sensitive Twitter business inside information.

Also, there was news today about how “Best Buy” considers a must for future employees to have a Twitter account made news…
Can anyone else see how this (Twitter,MySpace,FaceBook)can be abused ???
