As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion January 23, 2013

  1. The release of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns pt.2. is just about here :D

    • Ah man vader your gonna love it. Watched it last week. It’s amazing. Perfect transition from comic to animation. Voice acting is superb. And animation does not disapoint. Can’t wait for the combo pack of one and two I know there release one.

      • Awesome, I enjoyed pt.1 and have been waiting for pt.2, a combo pack of both would be really cool.

  2. I am still waiting for news of a new Predator movie to hit. This franchise has so much potential but no one seems interested in making a big budget hard R rated installment with an awesome cast. People I wouldn’t mind seeing in a Predator film:

    Idris Elba
    Frank Grillo
    Karl Urban
    Benicio Del Toro
    Jamie Foxx
    Aaron Eckhart

    • Awesome cast choices, I also enjoyed Predators and have been waiting for a sequel.

      • Yes, Predators really surprised me, I have been waiting for a sequel as well…

        • Hmmm, i wonder if they would have the sequel continue where the last one ended and have A. brody back to look for a way home.

Would they approach Ahnuld Swartz for a cameo of sorts?

  3. Anyone not liking the idea of Dominic Cooper playing Ian Fleming?

To me, thats like the whole Tom Hanks playing Walt Disney; he looks nothing like what he’s supposed to play, even if it is supposed to be a younger version. The way Fleming created Bond exagerrated stories and features of his own character and personality, there were still huge differences behind it all

  4. Hey guys. I just wanted to take some time to inform you that Daniel Fenwick, the ranter known as Dan F. aka Daniel F., has died on last Saturday.

Some of you liked him, some of you didn´t. But if it wasn´t for him, there wouldn´t be a Screenranters facebook group and I would have missed the opportunity to get to know some wonderful people who I, even if I live on the other side of the world to most of them, consider close friends. People like INK, Dr. Sam Beckett, Ignur Rant among others. And I´d like to thank him for that.

He left behind a caring family and a two year old daughter.

    Daniel Fenwick aka Daniel F.

    • Incredibly sorry to hear that, I’m sure he was a good man :(

    • Sorry to hear about his passing, my condolences go out to his family and friends :(

    • As a newbie who visits this site for less than a year and avoids Facebook like the plague I can’t say that the name rings a bell for me, but of course it’s still terribly sad. No one should pass away at that young an age. My condolences.

      • +3

    • What happened?!? :-(

      • Out of respect to his family, I´d prefer not to post that on here. I´ll drop you a message on FB.

        • Is it OK if Vic sends that info to me?

          • I´m not sure. It´s really a delicate private matter. So I´d rather not. Sorry.

            • No problem Scape.

    • My condolences 2 his family. May God bless them.

    • That’s some sad news – I wondered why he hadn’t been on here for a while. He was one of the SR regulars whose avatar would make me stop and read whatever he’d posted. Some people found him frustratingly stubborn, but I was quite happy to have “agreed to disagree” with him on more than one occasion; he was prepared to back up everything he said and I had a great deal of respect for that. My thoughts are with his family.

Thanks for letting us know, Scapegoat.

    • I’m so sorry to hear that. My condolences to his family and friends here on ScreenRant…

    • Wow. Sad loss to the board, but more so his family. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. :(

    • My condolences to Daniel’s family…

He and I disagreed on many an occasion; I doubt anyone would’ve accused us of being friends. However, he always challenged me to back up my opinions, and I appreciated that (albeit somewhat begrudgingly, at the time). I respected his stubborn conviction.

He and I DID share one great love: Batman.

I will miss the OTHER great Batman defender on this site…

    • I remember him posting on here quite a bit. I Hate to hear of his passing, especially at a young age and leaving a child behind. My thoughts and prayers will be with his family.

    • yeah we butted heads on more then one occasion…. quite more then one.

However it is never good to hear someone has passed before their expected time.

Thoughts and prayers to the family.

    • Oh my goodness! Daniel F. was one of my cyber-buddies. He will be sorely missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family.

    • Thanks for sharing, Scapegoat. My prayers are with his family and friends. Also, I do remember him posting here, and I’m glad to see that his forming of the Facebook group was successful. RIP.

It all reminds me of how much I enjoy this site, the great discussions we have, and the times we share and reply with each other as “cyber-friends.” Each day I really look forward to checking out SR for its news and boards. While I don’t reply to everyone who posts, I do read the boards, and in doing so, you do become familiar with others ranters. It’s also great to have a movie site where people aren’t trolls or slamming your opinions and ideas. I’ve always enjoyed coming to this site and have a great time discussing a variety of topics, especially when I’ve been to other movie sites where people have gotten so nasty and disrespectful–or they enjoy pumping up their egos and bashing others instead of having some great discussions about movies. My thanks goes out to him, everyone who posts at SR, and especially Vic and the SR gang, for keeping this site fun, friendly, and informative.

      • @$2: well said man.

    • I remember having had quite a few discussions with Daniel F. Even though we didn’t always see eye to eye, it breaks my heart when a fellow ranter and movie lover is in pain or passes away, and at such a young age as well.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I’m sure he was a good man.

      Rest In Peace Daniel

    • Man, that is a shame, way to young. I read a few of his post, and he will be missed.

    • Like others, Daniel and I disagreed on a few things, but I enjoyed the back and forth discussion. I remember back when I was posting as B-List, we had a discussion about sitcoms/comedy choices that went on for days that I’m not even sure how it ended. Then, a few days later I was siding with him on a different thread. I’m glad you let us know Scape. Rest in peace Daniel.

    • R.I.P. My thoughts go out to his family and close friends.

    • This is such sad news, my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Only being around on Screen Rant for a little over a year, I never got the chance to have a debate or discuss topics with Daniel, but I did recognize his name and his post. He had very strong opinions and beliefs in what he liked and he always stuck behind what he said, and that’s something a greatly respect. Like most of you have already said, the thing that’s awesome about Screen Rant is the community of posters and the bond everyone forms from discussing movies and tv shows on a daily bases. This is the only movie site that I post on because of that and because the Screen Rant community does an extremely good job at policing themselves and keeping discussion/debates to a friendly environment. It’s extremely sad to see someone who was so involved in the Screen Rant community pass away and Daniel will be extremely missed.

  5. Hey did anyone catch S01E11 of Arrow on tv?

  6. And my condolences go out to Mr. Fenwick’s family and friends…I am so sorry i hadn’t read the earlier comments…

  7. I realize I’m far behind those who have been watching the show from the start but I finally started watching Game of Thrones over the weekend and I’m hooked.
Part of me is glad that I have 2 full seasons to binge watch because as each episode ends I can’t wait to start the next.
I’m only at the 2nd episode of season 2 so please please please no spoilers but I’m curious what some of my fellow Ranters think…

    • Sup Kev, GOT is def one of my favorite shows on TV right now. I’ve read all the books so far as well and the story just get better and better (at least imo). I will say the TV show in season 1 stays very true to the book and in season 2 they mostly stay true to the book, with some parts being different, but nothing drastic. (Scenes that happen later in the book get pushed forward in the TV show.)

How did you react at the end of episode 9 of the first season? I miss Ned…….

Do you like season 2 so far? Some people felt it was slow at times, which I tend to agree, but it was still really good. I can’t wait till the end of March.

I love talking GOT, so if you ever post something about it on here 9 times out of 10 you’re going to get a response from me.

      • @ DT
I just finished season 2 this morning and I loved it…
Unfortunately for me because I just started watching the show 2 years late I had already knew what happens in Episode 9 of Season 1. But that didn’t lessen the impact.
What I like most about the show is that even though there’s so many storylines running alongside each other I’m invested in them all and never bored. And the characters are fantastic. Of course I can’t remember so many difficult names but like I said earlier I’m invested in them all…
Like everyone else I hate the “Boy King” and wish for his whole family’s downfall except for his uncle, I root for the Stark family and I even love the story with ” The Mother of Dragons”…
My favorite episode so far was Episode 9 of Season 2. It was great to see a full hour of non stop war. Especially because we don’t usually get to see the big battles. So that episode kind of felt like a thank you from the production for us viewers who have been waiting so long to see a battle like that…
My only small complaint is that sometimes the nudity can be a little to over the top. I can understand that it’s sometimes necessary but there have been a few times that it’s just like WTF???? Really??? How is that necessary to the plot?
I’ll end my rant here and I’ll keep an eye out for any of your comments about the show because it’s fun to talk about.

  8. Anybody watch Being Human (US Version)? I think its as good if not better than Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Spartacus. It’s definitely as suspenseful but a different genre that the above mentioned shows.

  9. @#2, I most certainly agree:

I myself have not been around SR very long, but this is a fantastic community of people. It seems we all have a passion for what goes on here and I think that’s why we can all talk to each other openly like long-time best friends. We care about what everyone has to say here, whether it be movies and TV or just life in general. I’m glad I found this site because I know when I speak here, people will listen and care and in return, I will give my full attention to what everyone has to say. We may be on different sides of the world and our countries might build us up to be different from everyone else, but here is a place without harsh judgement. Here is a place where everyone can relate to one another, care for one another, laugh with one another, mourn with one another. In a sense, we are a sort of perfect country that was built on a simple topic and it’s incredible that this alone can bring amazing people like everyone here together.

    I love you guys :)

    • *$2

    • Thanks, ACW. You said it much better than I did.

  10. I posted this question some hours ago but when the link went to the wrong date so I’m not sure if people saw it or not:

Has anyone seen any articles or stats on how well The Hobbit did in 48fps?

I know there are some strong opinions on both sides about it, but I’m looking for actual ticket sales in 48fps as opposed to 24fps, since at the end of the day that’s probably what studios are going to be looking at in order to decide to let more film makers go ahead with it or how widely to release the next film in 48fps.

    • Yeah, I saw it. Here’s it what I wrote:

“Well, I know that my theater pushed the HFR version into the 3pm slot, which is reserved for niche movies that don’t have much of an audience. Only the regular 3D and 2D versions are still being shown at prime time.”

While that isn’t exactly the information you were asking for it least gives a bit of an indication.

      • Thanks for the reply, but yeah, I was looking for something a little more official like overall stats released by the studio or something like that :).

  11. I also agree with the sentiments others have been saying Daniel’s passing, and it’s especially sad that he left behind a 2 year old daughter.

I also like coming to this site to discuss movie news with others who usually do so in a constructive way. I’ve tried commenting on other sites and it seems like the readers are a bunch of 13 year olds who like slinging mud and being immature. I like that I don’t see a lot of that on this site.

    • That´s what makes this site so special. I´ve met people on here who I consider some of my closest friends, even though they live thousands of miles away. And, as Fenwick said when he started the Screenranters FB group:

“This is our home away from our home at Screenrant”

      • That’s really cool. Maybe I should check out the FB group.

        • Sorry, but the group´s status is on “secret”, so you can´t find it. And, as a company would say “We´re not hiring.”

          • Snooty snooty!

            • Yeah, Idk, that’s really not cool to talk about a SR Facebook group and then tell everyone they can’t be a part of it.

              • Right? Scape gets my goat sometimes. (pardon the pun scapegaot)

                • @ scapegaot:

Get rid of my pic (that´s my actual face), or I´ll have Paul or Vic ban you! Last and only warning!

                  • 1. okey no sweat.

                    2. are you Aware of the contradiction in your avatar?

Using language like u do is not like The Scapegoat.

                  • I cant believe yall!

you are all being bullied by @scapegoat! He throws his weight around because of some “A**hole” hijacking him and all of you suck up to him as a result! You want to get onto the FB group so bad?

@superedge101 had it right, but seriously? scapegoat probably isn’t even making a religious reference!

What? Does scapegoat have Vic and Paul in his pocket that he can just get people thrown off? This is stupid!

                    • Slayer – This isn’t the first time Scape or others have mentioned their little group in an open discussion. Usually nobody goes into an uproar like this about it. I for one could care less…like I need more Facebook notifications. I barely care about the Facebook stuff from people that I physically know.

As for the swapping the picture, Scape actually uses his own face. I do the same thing…of course, I’m wearing a Spidey mask. It’s not like he’s using a picture of Chewbacca or Khloe Kardashian (why can I only think of wookies) or some other public figure/character.

So in closing, click on my name and go to my blog. Then, read about Ghostbusters 3 or some other post. But while there, click the banner to like it Facebook.

                    • @Slayer – I’m not in anyone’s back pocket. I choose when to ban someone from commenting and I’m WAY more patient about it than Vic is (he’ll admit that).

I’m going through this board to see what’s going on.

                      Paul Young – Moderator

              • Nice trick sgaot. you should read the original post though. that is kinda immature.

                peace yall!

              • Sorry DT, but this group started in 2010 and since then people left, and other people came. And most of them turned out to be major a**holes. And the people who are still in it are really close, so it´s more like a family.

                • I resent that Scape. I’m an a**hole but not a major one :)

And sgaot…using someone else’s avatar, that’s not cool at all. And using that idiom as a horrible attempt at a pun is a crime to the English language.

I take it back Scape, I am a major one.

                • It’s all good Scapegoat, no hard feelings. I can def see the reasoning because of A-holes coming in and ruining a good time.

              • @DT – If it makes you feel better I’m not a member of the group either :) heh

                Paul Young – Moderator

  12. Been watching Sliders on Netflix. I can see why it lasted only 5 seasons; I’m on the 5th season and it definitely lost much of its appeal.

I think Jared Padalecki would make a great Batman. He has the height and the physique.

    • If I remember, Fox interfered every step of the way on that show. Co-creator Tracy Torme walked after season 3.
