As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion Feb 15, 2012

  1. The word “eponymous” is now trending. ;)

    • Have to admit, I had to look it up. INK of “Ink’s art shop” approves. :)

      • As does Scapegoat of The Scapegoat Project.

        • Except your example is real Scape, while mine is not. :)

  2. It’s Berlin Film Fest. What reportage from Screen Rant?
I just watched the first Ep of “Sapphire and Steel” this morning for the first time in 30 years. This show is ripe for a remake!

    • “It’s Berlin Film Fest. What reportage from Screen Rant?”

      Kidding, right?

      • No. I ain’t kidding. That fest has become a pointer for upcoming Indie stand outs. I’m not suggesting that Screen Rant have on the spot reporters. I am suggesting that Screen Rant offer comment. Will that sit with you?

        • That sits with me fine. Maybe you should be more clear in your initial post.

          • Grumpy,grumpy, grumpy. Everyones grumpy.

    • Highlander, we don’t do much film festival coverage – even Sundance and I don’t live that far away from there.

      Vic

  3. Going to see Star Wars 3D tonight.

    Yes, it’s a free ticket.

    • That’s the way to see it. I have a friend who works at a local XD theater so he gets us free all the time. Having seen it last week, I can say for sure that it’s only worth seeing if you missed it the first time or you get in free.

      • i missed it the first time so i did enjoy watching it on the big screen. Really lookin forward & hoping to see the original trilogy. Part of me would like to see old movies like these again on the big screen that i missed out due to my age mostly, lol.

    • I have two free movie tickets, but I’m not sure if I should use it on Star Wars Ep1 or Ghost Rider 2 next week…
IMO, the best way to watch both of them is by watching them free of charge (it’s funny because it’s true), but I can only pick one movie if I plan on taking someone with me! :(

      T’is a pickle I am in…
If anyone has some advice, I’d appreciate it ;)

      • GR2

      • GR2

      • Bring your 3D glasses, go see GR2….then sneak into the SW.

Was that last part out loud? :-o

        • @INK, @Ignur, @Kathless: Thanks guys.
          It’s GR2: 3
          SW: 0

My mind is made up :D

          • This Means War? One For the Money? Big Miracle? The Secret Life of Arrietty? Good God man…what did you decide?

I was going to say GR2 as well :P

            • Yeah, I’ve decided that I’m gonna go see GR2 with a buddy next week.
Who knows, maybe another free ticket will come my way, then I’ll go see Star Wars as well at some point.

      • GR2 for sure that shouldn’t even be a problem TA

  4. Just wanted you to know Screen Rant that you’re awesome! The only place I trust to get my movie and TV news. Thank you :)

    • I concur.
Screenrant is WAY better than any other movie-news site around.
Their news is fair and accurate, and when they do post rumors or spoilers, they actually let you know before you mistakenly read the whole article.

Just the other day, I had a quick look on comicbookmovie.com, and it was frickin mess: there are people posting articles about Sam Jackson being racist, pre-judgments that ASM will suck and so-called “reasons why TDK was a terrible movie” (just to name a few examples)…

You’d never see SR posting rubbish like that.
Thanks Vic (and crew) for such an outstanding site.

      • Not that I want to defend CBM, but “reasons why TDK was a terrible movie” was written by someone who thinks it´s a bad movie. It´s his opinion. As he said in that article.

        • Okay… I will concede on that one (I went back to check, and he DID indeed mention it was his opinions), but you have to agree, that site allows some pretty terrible and ill-informed articles to be posted…

          • Yes, I agree. The main problem with that site is that you can set up a “fan site” and post stuff on your own there. So, most of it comes from frustrated and/or un-informed fanboys.

    • AMEN!

      • Thanks, everyone!

        Vic

    • I especially like that the writers of the articles reply in the comments and have an open discussion with their readers. I may miss it when other sites do it, but i always notice when Screenrant does it, thanks

  5. I just saw the grey the other day that was pretty good.im just hopin in transformers4 they do it right with the robot characters and there names.im not complaining about the action!!! Transformers actually has a good storyline and idk for some reason i dont think they care about it!!look at chris nolans batman films.if bay could follow the real story for transformers and have the real robots this would be really good

  6. New job….. :( and :) I will be strangely silent in the upcoming weeks on Screenrant after the 20th.

So if I comment and you rebuke ;) I may not answer for a few days….

I will keep up with the news though only via Screenrant so keep it real as you always do.

    • good luck to you Aknot! congrats on the new job.

  7. just a bit of hunger games movie news, well movie soundtrack any who.
Taylor Swift…of all people…is releaseing a song called “Safe and Sound” for the sound track, for those of you who have gone over the books, it’s to be played right after a pretty major moment in the first book. (i wont give too much away) but if you listen to it i’m pretty sure you can figure out where it fits.
Now hear me out. I know TAYLOR freaking Swift.I am not a fan, nor have ever been. That was my gut reaction. But THEN i pulled the song up on youtube and was quite happy with what she’s produced. And the crazy thing is the song fits. Great lyrics, nice tone.
So, check it out if you hunger game fans get a chance. I think you’ll be surprised with what you find.

    • Ive heard the song as well, it is pretty nice, but I heard that its not playing in *that* scene. It’s probably just in the end credots. Id rather hear the score during that specific scene and then the mockingjay whistels. But if the song indeed ends up playing there I would not mind :D

      • aww are you kidding me? how could they not play it then??????
They should just let us handle the soundtrack, what do you think Rickster?

        • I think thats a good idea ;) hahaha. But I still cant wait for that score to release, I’m getting it :)

  8. Hey guys I was thinking the bout this the other day. Why didn’t Sam l jackson try to bulk up for the nick fury role? In the comics he is this complete in shape buff badass and u just don’t see that with jackson. I mean he’s not out of shape but I mean it seems like he didn’t even try.

    • Maybe because he is 64 and doesn’t want to take steroids like Stallone did?

    • I’ve wondered that myself, but I’ve finally decided that I kind of like Jackson’s slightly dumpy, rumpled version of Fury. He’s a little different from the traditional view of the character, but I think he brings something new and interesting Fury. I can’t really say that about any other actor in the Marvel Movie Universe. However, being as old as he is, Jackson could probably use the exercise anyway…

    • He did train for the role…
Remember what he looked like in IM2? — he had the belly of a pregnant lady.
He got rid of that for this movie. (Also, so far he’s only been wearing long coats or sweaters in the trailers/pics, and of all the clothing items in the world, those don’t really help to make you look leaner IMAO — to be fair to Mr. Jackson, he hasn’t had the OPPORTUNITY to show off any muscles).

I think for a guy of his age (64), he looks pretty damn awesome (at the very oldest, 57)

      • I agree TheAvenger. I think he’s developed the perfect body for the role. He pulls off the look of a super-secret government agent just fine, IMO. He doesn’t need to be a body builder to make a good nick Fury. And to be honesty I sure hope I have his health when I’m in my mid sixties.

    • Is the guy playing Hawkeye buff?

      • He is indeed.

        • yea jeremey renner bulked up a lot. But I know Jackson is in better shape then in iron man 2 that why I said he was in shape but he’s not the one I remember. And wanna see. I mean I won’t let that ruin the movies for me and I haven’t. But I just wanna see the 90s spiderman fury. Lol

      • He’s VERY bulked up…
Did you see how vein-y his arms are?! :O ;)

        • To me it looks like chris evens slimmed down slighty after thor. Not that he still isn’t a large man he just looks like the roids wore off or something lol

          • I think Chris Hemsworth (Thor) still looks ripped, but Chris Evans (Cap) seems to have lost some weight — he’s looking skinnier and less muscular.

  9. I noticed Cougar Town was back on the air, and I keep seeing ads for FOX’s Breaking In. What other sitcoms that I thought were cancelled are going to be popping up?

  10. Today is my B-Day & i turn 30. Where does the time go? I wished i born years earlier, so many films i wished to see on the big screen. Anyone else thinks about the samething as they got older?

    • Not really. I am still regretting the fact my stupid self never saw inception, star trek and my favorite movie the dark knight in theatres :/

    • Happy Birthday Whippersnapper!

      • @ INK

        Thanks.

    • I had always wanted to open a $2 theater that showed movies 10+ years old. I would think you could make some coin on that. Have La-Z-boys as the theater seating and each screen with a maximum of 50-60 seats. You could rent it out for birthdays, parties, meetings, etc. Someone get on it and I’ll relinquish the rights to the idea. ;)

      • There’s a theater in town that opened in 1928 and still functions today, charging just $1.99 for second-run films. Every Friday and Saturday night, someone plays a Wurlitzer organ before late shows. Sometimes they show weekend midnight movies, and I recently enjoyed watching Stripes, Heathers, and Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen again. For Christmas, they show It’s a Wonderful Life and play Christmas songs on the organ. Vic needs to come to town then! :-)

My favorite experience there was one summer when they showed silent films, charging the price of admission as it was when the theater opened in 1928. I got to see Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin shorts with the organ’s accompaniment for just five cents! Maybe you (Ink) could manage the theater???

If you’re interested, check it out: http://byrdtheatre.com/

        • @ $2

One of my friends & i thought about saving up money to re-opening the old theater we go to to show old films. But someone bought the building because it’s attached to another to start some other business. We still talked about & wondered if the town could benefit from having a drive-in theater & show old films. Alot of people at work said there used to be one & would like to see that since there aren’t many around anymore.

          • When the Byrd Theater shows old films, big crowds always gather, so I think you’re onto something, WW, and wish you the best with the idea. I’d certainly pay for the whole family to see Gremlins, The Goonies, etc. on the big screen, just like I did as a kid. It would be great for the kids to experience the film the same way I did.

And happy birthday! I know I’m late, but in the cinematic words of poetry teacher John Keating, I hope you certainly did “seize the day.” Carpe diem!

    • Happy birthday grandpa ;)
Since I’m still TECHNICALLY a kid (16 and three quarters ;)), I’ve missed out on MANY movies in theaters:
I never got to see the original Star Wars movies (STAR WARS!!), Indiana Jones, LOTR, the Superman movies, Back to the Future, etc, etc…

By now, I’ve gotten the chance to see all of em on TV, VHS, DVD, or remastered Blu-Ray but I can only imagine how much more awesome it would have been to see all of those in theaters… :(

    • I wanna watch every Humphrey Bogart movie on the big screen. Dude was a mack.

    • Yuse guys are starting to get on my nerves! 30, 16?! Oh great, now my back, knees and shoulders are starting to hurt again! Honey, could you bring me my Ensure?! And don’t forget the Depends! 8-)

      • And Happy Birthday WallyWest, and many many more!

        • @ Kahless

          Thanks bud.

      • No doubt Kahless …

        • Happy birthday WallyWest!

          • @ Epsilon_4

            Thank You.

    • The BIG 30 congrats! Im in my early 30′s but it seemed like i just turned 30 last year so enjoy these years while we still got’em.And im glad i was born when i was, it was fun being a kid in the 80′s then a teenager in the 90′s and the 00′s was good being in my 20′s cuz i got to witness the birth of the comic book movie era,and it’s only getting better. The only thing im not happy about is the decrease of good music nowadays, other than that im good.

      • Last comment was for Wally of course. How did i get way down here.

      • I hate the lack of good music.
My entire iTunes library is filled with AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Rush, etc.
Sure, I have some modern music (Foo Fighters, Wolfmother and such), but all this other new stuff sucks! :(
My little sister can’t get enough of Bruno Mars, Jason the Beaver, Rihana, etc., but every time I hear that sh…, uuh, stuff, I get a headache.
Me and my family watched the Grammy awards the other day: IMO, it was just a big, noisy mess filled with drunks and drug addicts (and not the rock-n-roll kind)
*Sigh* At least my patience was rewarded at the end of the show: when Paul McCartny played a song or two accompanied by the lead guy from the Foo Fighters.
        End Rant

        • Avenger: Check out Saint, X-Sinner, Barren Cross, Whitecross, Rage of Angels, Guardian, Bride
They are Christian metal bands but their music is killer!

          • Thanks INK :D
I’m not the biggest heavy metal fan, but I’ll definitely check these bands out.

            • SOUNDS LIKE:
              Saint = Judas Priest
              X-Sinner = AC/DC
              Barren Cross = Megadeath
              Bride = Guns N Roses
              Whitecross = RATT
              Guardian = Bon Jovi
Rage of Angels = Skid Row/Steelheart (some of RoA played in Steelheart FWIW)

      • @ Hi-C

Thanks buddy. So many R-rated movies especially i missed in theaters whether its action, horror, etc. Superman was the first hero i saw on tv. First CBM i went to was Batman Returns w/ one of my brothers. I agree about how music has gone down hill.

    • @wallywest happy birthday man

      • @ Yeti

        Thanks bud!

    • Happy belated Wally West. Hope you oartied without restraint or morals.

      • @ Ignur Rant

Thanks. Nope i didn’t. Just another B-Day that went by. If i had money, all bets would be off, lol.

  11. Check out this video GOTHAMS DARK KNIGHT
    Enjoy…

  12. guys check out this fan trailer of DC/Milestone character Static Shock. its called Static Shock Blockout. heres the link below

  13. I was excited for “John Carter” over the past few years of production delays and build up. But as soon as the Trailer came out, i felt the biggest let down. It does not look good at all.

Now that i learned/realized that Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Walle) is directing, i feel like i have to see it. The man is an essential member of Pixar history and has made 2 of the greatest pieces of animation in the last 12 years. I feel like i should expect this to be a good movie, but the trailer is so bad

    anyone else conflicted?

    • Ever since I first heard of it (last year), I had a feeling the movie would be bland: looks like I’m gonna be right ;)

Still probably going to go see it though.

      • I agree Avenger. It does look bland and I think it is the martian landscape that makes it that way. I, too, will still be seeing it however.

  14. Awesome Avengers news guys:
    http://www.starburstmagazine.com/news/1954-movie-news-the-avengers-have-been-roughly-assembled
Nothing spoiler-y, but just a very nice, reassuring interview.
Looks like the Avengers is going to be a long movie :D
And apparently, there’s never a dull moment.

    Read it for yourselves…

    • That’s awesome thanks TA I especially liked the part where he said,” They let the Hulk be Hulk. He acts more like the comic book version of Hulk.” YES!!! That makes me even more psyched to see this movie :)

    • Damn, I was literally just coming on here to post that. You beat me to it haha

    • That’s the kind of interview I wanted. You’re right about reassuring us. I keep telling myself that this is the movie that Marvel studios set out to make with 5 lead-in movies so it has be awesome. This interview put my mind at ease.

  15. I just got done watching I am number four and I have to say I thought it was a great movie if you’re just lookiNg for an intense actioner. I was surprised that it didn’t get more recognition I remember it getting mediocre reviews on the web. I actually give it four stars
