Star Wars Episode VII
The Gathering Storm
Seven hundred years have passed since Luke Skywalker defeated Emperor Palpatine, the galaxy has gone through many difficult trials before settling down into an era of peace and tranquillity. Now, in the unknown regions of space, a forgotten horror of the ages is racing through the darkness.
The Galactic Alliance have discovered an abandoned armada, ancient ships of war, and there is a survivor. A Jedi Knight, Allon, who makes claims of this horror fast approaching, his connection to it, but the team who found him question his sanity. The Jedi are still the peacekeepers of the galaxy, but this is a more relaxed role due to stability of peace. This lone survivor throws the Order into chaos by making startling revelations about the past, he paints the Jedi as villains, this seems unbelievable to the current Jedi, although much of their history has been lost. Including all tales of the Sith.
Allon promises to lead the Jedi to the truth behind their lineage, taking a group to a planet smothered in The Dark Side, Allon kills the Jedi and reveals himself to be Sith. He draws on the power of the planet, searching for an apprentice, luring her to him.
His intended apprentice is a young woman called Cally, she lives with her family aboard their ship as they trade goods with various planets. Her brother has some latent talent with the force, Cally claims to have none at all, in actual fact she is incredibly powerful and hides her increasing abilities. The Jedi learn of Allon’s betrayal and dispatch two Knights Kerrin and Xix to find Cally.
Allon uses his immense dark side power to resurrect a slaughtered army to man the armada and launches a vengeful attack on the Galactic Alliance, who have no such firepower to defend against such a cruel attack. Allon’s fleet are bearing down on Coruscant, with only the Jedi mounting a defence, Cally and her family answer a distress call on the edge of the star system, they pick up the two jedi sent to find her. They try to escape and head for New Alderran, but it isn’t long before Allon discovers them and traps the ship.
He offers Cally a choice, Join him or he will kill her family. With no other option, Cally goes with the Dark Lord, they disappear into hyperspace. But Allon has lied and has his fleet destroy Coruscant, and fires on her family’s ship. Xix is killed, as are her mother and father. Her brother is nowhere to be found. Kerrin vows to find her, taking a small starfighter and heading off in search of the fleet.
The End.
The first half sets up the new era, showing the Jedi to be much weaker than anything we have seen before. Everything has changed because of the lasting peace, and the oncoming threat simply walks over them. There are more characters but I just wanted to give an overview. There is a love story between Kerrin and Cally, the animosity between Cally and her brother, and the hidden secrets of Allon. Huge space battles, alien worlds, dangerous creatures, and interesting characters. Cally is very much the Han Solo character. The next film focuses on her descent into darkness, and Kerrin trying to find her. While the last part would be her redemption upon finding her brother is still alive, and trying to rid the galaxy of Allon forver.
@DrSamBeckett
thats actually a nice idea, although it could take a little work. no offence, im just saying, everything lucas touches is gold (star wars-related: except 4 episodes 1-3).
has anyone seen the newish clone wars animated series?
@deadpoolfreek
No offense taken.
I worked on a script for this but found it considerably harder than I expected. Star Wars means so much to me, that when I started writing, I found I was so unsure of what I was doing all of a sudden.
I couldn’t get into the Clone Wars TV show. I tried to, but I just more and more interest with each episode. And if there is a new film, then its probably just another animated film to tie into that show.
Twas the night before the blood feud, And all through the land,
Not a creature was sturring, Not even Kahless’ clan.
The petaQs were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that a targ soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of battle-drums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her armor, and I with my shield,
Had just had a tussel right there in the field.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the cot to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
To open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The blood on the breast of the new-fallen foe
Gave the whisper of war not so long ago.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature shuttle, and eight red shirts so near.
What a little globfly, so lively with a smirk,
I knew in a moment it must be James T. Kirk.
More rapid than razor beasts his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
“Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now slash away! Slash away! Slash away all!”
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to the floor,
And his clothes were all tarnished with blood and with gore.
A bundle of something he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And freed all the petaQs, then turned with a jerk.
And opening his communicator aside his full waist,
And giving a signal, beaming up without haste.
He sprang to his shuttle, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he flew out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to Qo’Nos, and enjoy the tribbles tonight!”
Hey thats great stuff DrSam. I think there is def something special there tho like previously said it might need a little tweaking. I love the fact that its set way ahead of all the rest of the films adding that sense of freshness. Also I like the fact that the Jedi are or appear weaker than previously due to peace and tranquility being present. To me it seems like this trilogy would loosely emulate the 4,5, and 6 episodes. At least it seems that way with the structure of the movies.. did you intend that? If so thats totally cool i was just wondering.. Also I think it would be cool to add Hybrid characters in the story. Characters that aren’t necessarily Jedis but still know how to manipulate the force and “sense” things… I’m thinking Kyle from those Dark Forces games !!
@John “Kahless” Taylor…
Love the poem. Made my day. Thanks for sharing.
I just saw James Cameron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Vic
soooooooooooo anything “blue” blow your mind lately…? Wink wink.
LOL, go tell him that you think Avatar will suck, hahahaha, just kidding man.
KenJ
my friend I have just come from the premiere, no jokes, I even got a big cardboard poster that I tore of the railings.
Seeind Cameron was a huge thing for me, I may not be keen on Avatar, but he is a legend.
@Jago
Yup, just saw Avatar. Visually, it’s the most amazing film I’ve ever seen. Story-wise it’s got everything: Action, adventure, romance – but it was nothing earth-shattering in terms of story and was actually pretty predictable.
I’m trying to decide if I’m being too hard on it like I was on Trek to compensate for all the hype/expectations. I think I’ll actually like it more upon a second viewing.
Vic
@Vic
I know you’re under embargo for the time being, but I think we all expected the movie to be pretty predictable. What I think most of us are wanting is for this movie to tell this clichéd story well. I recently re-watched Kung Fu Panda, now that had a really clichéd story, one that had been done hundreds of times before, but because it told the story well… not perhaps in any original way, just well… I still liked it. Does Avatar do the same?
@Joshi
I’d say yes – although I was hoping for a bit more… unpredictability.
Vic
@joshi
My thoughts exactly.
Now all thats left is to watch it in a theater without annoying teens talking and stuff.
John, that poem was great!
I’d love to see a new Star Wars trilogy if it was based on the the Timothy Zahn books. Have screenwriters, NOT Lucas, create the script, and let George worry about the SFx. Then bring in Speilberg or Peter Jackson to direct.
It might just be better than the originals.
Oh, and if they can recast Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov, I am sure that they can recast Luke, Leia and Han. It might be weird, but if the story is done right (like Star Trek) it would work. I just wouldn’t want them to use the Yuzhan Vong storyline.
@Andy
That’s kind of different though since this took place BEFORE the Trek characters you already know, so you can just say this is how they looked “younger.” But with Star Wars, if they do a “continuation” meaning they should actually look the same… But I mean, we’ll see, it’s not like the most important thing, the story and action is the most important, so it can still work…
@Vic
So in general, would you say that the movie has James Cameron quality character development, action, story, and all of that?? If so, then it’ll be worth it even if someone told me exactly what happens in the entire movie, lol.
@Ken J
I’d say so, yes.
Vic
Anyone else watching tonights episode of Fringe? Its a reallllllllllly good episode.
I don’t know why Terminator Salvation got such a bad rap, I actually enjoyed it. I thought it had all the elements of a good Terminator movie( except a real Arnie of course, but I even liked the bad CG Arnie Homage), and sam worthington was a great hero to root for.
Why is it whenever they need to dispose of a terminator, there’s always a molten steel plant nearby?
@The Pitt Man
I cant agree with you about T-Sal being enjoyable, i found it quite awful but, you make a good point about Worthington, he was very good in it, as was Anton Yelchin. It was a bad script that let down what could have been a nice idea, plus Bale’s involvement sent the project in directions it shouldnt have gone.
The best part of it was the “Arnie” cameo.
Thanks Stephie and Andy S, glad you liked it.
I just read Vic’s review of Avatar and I’m glad to see that the hype didn’t ruin the film. Vic saw in regular 3D (I believe) and I wonder what an IMAX 3D viewing would look like? I think I’ll do as Vic did and see it in regular 3D (at least for the initial viewing).
@Ken J…
I understand what you mean by the Trek movie showing the characters as being younger, but they’re not THAT much younger than they were in TOS. Ultimately, the actors and the story made us believe they were the characters. Maybe if they do another Star Wars movie with the original characters it can be set 30 years after the events of ROTJ. Not sure I want to see Carrie Fisher portraying a plumper Princess Leia, though.
Just heard David Lynch will probably be the guy to direct the new Star Wars movie if it happens with Lucas producing and writing.
The cast from the other Star Wars movies are done. There is no going back to them for any future movies. That’s just not an option.
Hey gang,
Check out the changes I’ve made to the right side nav.
My goal was to make it easier to find the latest reviews and trailers, and the featured articles that generate so much discussion but can usually only be found from the home page.
Vic
M-Cat, they could always use Mark Hamill as THE Jedi Master teaching at the Jedi Academy. I’ll see just about anything Harrison Ford does, and I’d die a happy man to see him as Han Solo once again (never gonna happen, though.) But I agree that Carrie Fisher is done. Weird how Harrison became such a huge star and is probably more well known for Indiana Jones than for Han Solo. Mark Hamill’s best stuff has been voicing the Joker in the animated Batman series. Carrie Fisher, well, what has she done noteworthy since ROTJ?
