  1. what do you think about movies of the years ? My vote for The Avengers

    • I mean this year 2012

      • For me its both the avengers and the dark knight rises. All in all 2012 had some great movies here are a few others I enjoyed this year…

        The amazing Spiderman
        The hobbit: an unexpected journey

…just to name a few. 2012 was a great year for movies with the avengers the dark knight rises and the hobbit: an unexpected journey. Looking forward to the upcoming movies in 2013.

    • Definitely the avengers get my vote for movie of year.

Merry Christmas fellow ranters. Look forward 2 another round of ranting in 2013.

    • Tough question.
My favorite movies of the year were The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Skyfall, Looper and of course, The Hobbit Pt.1, but my “movie of the year” would probably be The Avengers, with The Dark Knight Rises in a very, very close second place (I love both films equally, for different reasons, but I give the nudge to The Avengers simply because it puts a smile on my face every single time I watch it)

    • Movie of the year hands down The Dark Knight Rises.

      • Hafta agree, TDKR was awesome and fun. Avengers was fun but not as awesome. the hobbit was fun, awesomish and sentimental, Breaking Dawn 2 sucked

        • Twilight SUCKS all around…..Period.

          • True O King! Please do not contract the erroneous impression that I give the other Twilight films a pass. I was speaking merely of 2012 movies. Frankly, I wish Twilight had faded into dusk, New Moon had remained invisible, that Eclipse had been eclipsed by some more deserving film, and that Breaking Dawn had been broken by a crippling midnight premiΓ¨re. πŸ˜›

            • Underworld. One of the greatest(if not THE greatest)Vampire franchises ever. Kate Beckinsale is the present & future of female action film stars. Besides Milla Jovovich that is.

              • Mmmmmhhhhmmmmm. Milla Jovovich.

              • Never actually liked Milla Jovovich… She is hottish i guess πŸ˜‰

I actually liked the girl from Haywire. Dam good actress…

              • I actually never never was one for christmas actually. overrated hogwash.

                • I Actually hate the word “actually” to.

                  • I dont usualy use the word hogwash either

                    • Are you okay super, & what’s wrong with Milla? It’s not all the time we get butt kicking females that actually look good too.

                    • Wait a sec. Did you just say you actually liked Haywire!? I thought it was very boring to be honest with you. I guess that’s due to the fact that I hate spy thrillers. Too much talking with slow pacing & not enough action are what most of those films are like. Just not my cup of tea.

                    • LOL always et that… nope just not into christmas, expressed it and realized it might be offencive to some. :)

RE Milla, Dunno… I Just got that plastic feel from her…

                    • The Haywire girl(Gina Carano)isn’t better at all. Unlike Milla she really didn’t convince me that she took any acting lessons, just fighting ones’. She was too stiff & unconvincing when delivering her lines, but she did know how to through a left hook.

                    • I think everyone should watch Ultraviolet with the commentary. Milla does it all solo and I felt like I was hanging out with her while she did it; she was a lot of fun to listen to with the movie.

    • Definitely The Avengers. That one and The Dark Knight Rises were the only movies this year that I watched twice in the theater. The Avengers is a lot more fun, though, and that’s why I already watched it two more times on Blu-ray, while I don’t even own TDKR yet.

The 3rd and 4th place go to Prometheus and Dredd, and the 5th to Looper.

      • Though the dark knight rises was my favorite it wasnt the best. Ill go with perks of being a wallflower, life of pi or django (which i was lucky enough to get to QC at work yesterday)

    • The Avengers gets my vote as well, with Perks of Being a Wallflower in second, and Amazing Spider-Man in third.

    • I have to go with The Avengers. Absolutely loved that film and is easily one of my all-time favorites.

Top movies of 2012 for me:
      1-The Avengers
      2-The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
      5-The Expendables 2
      6-The Dark Knight Rises

      • You didn’t like The Amazing Spider-Man!?

        • Didn’t even see it. Protesting a needless remake. I’ll eventually see it when it’s on TNT or FX or something.

          • I think they had to do it all over again. The majority of fans didn’t like part 3 so if they had continued where that one had left off from it might have been a worse film. Especially if the same crew from the last film(part 3)had worked on it.

  2. my #1 first pick would be The Avengers aswell.

  3. I’ll probably be off-line for the next day or two (eating, unwrapping presents, sleeping, enjoying presents, eating again, followed by some more eating and sleeping ;)), so I’d just like to take this time and wish all you guys a happy holiday!

I’d like to thank Vic, Paul, Rob, Ben, Kofi, Sandy, Andrew and everyone else on the ScreenRant team for having done such an awesome job this year bringing us the quality news, reviews, editorials and discussion-experience that, well frankly, you just can’t get on other sites.

Christmas, in my humble opinion, really is a time to be happy, thankful and giving so I sincerely wish you all have a wonderful time this holiday with your loved ones doing just that.

Merry Christmas to all you guys!

    • +1 nicely said Avenger merry Christmas.

    • Yeah, Merry Christmas everybody. May you find plenty of great movies under the tree. πŸ˜‰

      • The Lost Winchester.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

        • Thank you very much. The same to you and your family. Even the in-laws. πŸ˜€

    • if we dont hear from you by new years, we will send antacids to your house :) But have a Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    • Thanks very much! We do appreciate it and we try hard for you guys. πŸ˜€

    • god bless us all…everyone!

and ted was defiantely the funniest movie of the year, but avengers was the best, imho

    • TDKR was my favourite, avengers, and looper were great too, Ted was the funniest IMO.
I wish you all and your loved ones a beautiful Christmas and a happy new year

  4. Merry Christmas to my fellow ranters!

    • As to you Scapegoat, may you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

  5. Anybody see the trailer for Pain and Gain? It looks like a comedy with Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg as weightlifters, but in my opinion the movie looked really bad and I didn’t laugh one time during the trailer.

  6. I wanna wish everyone at screenrant and all fellow ranters a merry christmas.

  7. TED

Was not over hyped and I enjoyed it!

someone send in a strike package to take out my house, my inlaws and relatives are driving me batty!

    • Ted was a great movie imo, I enjoyed it as well.

      P. S. Strike package inbound!!! Lol
      Merry Christmas jeff

      • @VADER THANKS!

        Peace at last!

      • And Vader, Merry Christmas to you as well.

Sorry for the Omission from last post….But I really need that strike package lol.

  8. Django Unchained opening Christmas day…yea, good luck with that. Just what parents want to do on Christmas morn…prep their kids for a sado-masochistic film from Tarantino. Wonder who the marketing genius was who came up with that idea?

    • hey guy. not everyone has kids. there’s quite a few people who are calling the theater I work at to make sure Django is opening christmas day.

      • As I said…yea, good luck with that.

    • Between my In-Laws and Relatives.

I am going to turn my house into a Tarantino Film!!!!!!!!!!

      • Jeff! Get in your happy place. It’s Christmastime. You shouldn’t be envisioning tying anyone up to a chair, cutting their ears off, pouring gasoline over them, and lighting them on fire, ala Resevoir Dogs. (That, by the way, was the last time I watched a Tarantino flick.)

In all seriousness, Merry Christmas Jeff.

        • Ah Jeff #1 My Old Frenemy, And I say that with tongue in cheek.

My Happy Place was invaded by my cousins.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  9. In the end…..Superheroes ruled the box office once again, & will continue to do so for many many years to come.

Merry Christmas to All, & to all a good night, evening, day, morning or whatever time of the day it is where you live. PEACE!!

    • @Broadway.

May your Christmas be full of joy and merriment. Have a good one my friend.

      • @Jeff.

Same to you. I can’t wait for the new year to begin so we can continue having great discussions about the various topics in the entertainment industry & beyond.

        • @Broadway.

Another year of good movies, bad movies, not what I thought it would be, it was all it could be and more, and new trailers for 2014…Yep.

We all need to get a new List ready. :)

    • Yes We did rule the box officce again… wait… did i gust let the cat outa the bag?

  10. Did anybody else watch “Killer Joe”? Man, that movie was flippin’ weird.
Watched “Total Recall” as well, I don’t know why it gets all the hate, I thought it was really good. I liked it better than the Ah-nuld version, much less cheese.

  11. Hey guys…which one do i watch this christmas? Jack Reacher or Django Unchained? Need suggestions…

    • I plan on seeing both before the year is out. but i think django looks like it will be a more fun time at the theater so go to that one first.

      • Django its a really great film.

  12. it is almost the end of the year so you know what that means… “Top Ten Films of 2012″ lists! so start compiling!

  14. Merry Christmas, everyone!

  15. i hope jamie foxx isn`t electro in asm i want a white and perhaps a british guy

    • Electro isn’t British and his background would work just as well for a black character.

  16. Happy holidays everyone :)

  17. I never really cared for Electro as a spidey villain. I prefer Shocker over him. I couldn’t imagine what costume they’d have Electro’s be like on film because i know they wouldn’t go for the green & yellow versiow with bolt mask which wouldn’t look good on film imo.

    • I don’t have an issue with Electro as a villain, but the costume is definitely not big screen friendly. I suspect they’re going to have to modify it quite a bit.

  18. Happy Holidays Screenrant!

I still want my Black Panther movie! Grrrrr. lol

    • You must be a big fan to be growling like

    • @Pitt Man,

I doubt you will get a Black Panther Movie. There has been talks, but no one really seems in a rush to do it, and Marvel/Disney seems to think they have enough Heroes.

Plus, I still cant get over an Ant Man Film is being made?

      • @Jeff.

An Ant-Man film?! I know right, & After what should be the biggest film in the same year of it’s release(Avengers 2). My prediction though is that Avengers 2 will introduce him into the fold, & that way it will make his solo effort seem more must see to everyone. Especially since it will be the last of the “Phase Two” line up.

        • @Broadway.

Ant-Man to a lot of people seems like a no brainer. To me, the idea just does not appeal to me, as such not really on my must see radar. If I were to see it, it would proably most likely be a Redbox rental.

I just do not go see movies based on popular opinion because quite frankly, I do not read books about Ant-Man.

          • I also have to say, from a friend who read Ant-Man. I am not to interested in a “superhero” who beat his wife, to me. Domestic Abuse does not, will it ever belong in comic books. To me that is sore subject for a lot of people, and I loathe with a passion any man that hits a woman, in reality or fiction.

  19. Merry Christmas everyone! Hopefully Santa is good to all my fellow Ranters!!

  20. My top 5 films of the year:

    1. The Avengers
    2. The Amazing Spider Man
    3. The Dark Knight Rises
    4. Skyfall
    5. The Expendables 2

great year for films though. I also saw Ted, Men in Black 3, Prometheus, Looper, and The Hobbit and all were amazing.

  21. Merry Christmas everyone! Just wanted to say some of the movies i watched this year were Die Hard 1&2, Badder Santa & Batman Returns.

  22. So what did you all get for Christmas????

    • Total Recall, The Expendables 2, The Bourne Legacy, The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, Fringe: Season 4, and some other stuff.

      Merry Christmas everyone!

    • Totall Recall, War Horse, Chronicle and a nice Canon Powershot SX40 HS.

      Very happy.:D

      • I got All the Box sets of Movies from 2012.

        A Few Video Games.

My Mom, bless her little heart. Got me a full size replica of B-9 From Lost in Space.

My Favorite Robot is now sitting in the man cave all lit up and it says..”Danger Will Robinson!”

Best present ever, besides my family, wife and kids…

        • Hehe, that’s great.

There were a couple of games on my end as well that I could have mentioned: Darksiders II (good, but the first one was better), Dishonored (Great!) and The Walking Dead (tough subject matter but very good!)

          • @TheLostWinchester

Walking Dead game, the Telltale game?

            • Yup!

              • Great Game.
