  1. Good Monday everybody!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday this week!

    • Ill devour your soul youngling.

      • +1

      • Devouring souls is so cliche, emo and last century. Soul commerce is where it’s at today!

        • Dark Souls 2 March 2014

    • morning we jusy got our power back…damn ice storm

  2. They could promote the Ant-man movie at the end of Avengers AoU by introducing Hank Pym at the very end, and have the credits accompanied by him walking through Ultron’s body. It would be a great homage to when Hank Pym walked through Vision’s body.

    • Now that Paul Rudd is casted (cast?) prior to filming of Avengers, you’d have to think he’d be in the movie to give him some publicity leading into the summer release of Ant-Man. At least give him one kick butt scene to build up hype.

    • There is still not a shred of verified proof that Ant-Man’s alter-Ego will be Hank Pym

  3. Anyone think itd be neat has in Thor 2, Loki had bonded with Darcy and they got together.
Well at the least it makes good fan fiction.

    • +1

    • I was saying it before Thor 2, but what if Darcy was actually Enchantress. If you google Kat Dennings as a blonde, smoking hot. But they went a different route.

      • I’m not sure if Hela is a shape changer but I feel Darcy has more her look that Enchantress.

  4. Does anybody else think that Batman vs Superman will feature Metallo and Lex Luthor? I’m thinking with Kryptonite Metallo could weaken Superman to the point where Batman is needed and Batman can actually help instead of just doing some tactical stuff. They have to choose a villain strong enough for Superman to need help with but have something Batman can exploit that Superman can’t do, they have to need each other for the relationship to work. And does anybody have any ideas of how they could introduce Wonder Woman without her just randomly coming?

    • If the creators love their daughters, theyll make sure wonder woman doesnt have that dumb american bathing suit look that seems to have endured so many years, and try the odyssey look or even just plain armor in her colors, navy blue armor kilt, red breast plate etc.

      • As much as we all like to see a beautiful woman on the big screen Wonder Woman doesn’t need that bathing suit I agree, not only is it dysfunctional, outdated, and ugly, its demoting her to a sex icon, but they do this with Male heroes as well sometimes so its a two way street but it’s a little different in this situation as what they do to female superheroes doesn’t add to their strength or fighting ability it would hinder it if they boobs are the size of powergirl’s.

        • The lamest marvel outfit yet is the cap uniform from avengers. the one that tried to be close to the comic book one, less interesting/cool than his first movie outfit and his sequel outfit.
Point is to adapt the characters to look cool in reality, not copy and paste.

          • @ cody

I might be in the minority but I didn’t mind Capt’s costume. It made him more agile. His mask/helmet even resembled his WW2 one as a update. Coulson made the case for it in the film.

            • Problem was it looked more costume than outfit or armor.

      • WW’s outfit: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4w3Yp9R8-D8/TgJt9LqUI_I/AAAAAAAAIYQ/aZYb6fGCXF4/s1600/wonder_woman_new.jpg

        THIS makes sense.

and I agree they should have gone with Cap’s traditional scale-mail top.

If a LARPer can manage to find someone to pull the look off then it should have been easy for Hollywood’s vast resources.

(had to post in two pieces because it wasn’t going through)

  6. Great casting news last week. I love Paul Rudd and I think he’ll make a great Hank Pym. And my best friend and I were just discussing Joaquin Phoenix and how he needs to come back to big feature films, and then the next day it’s announced that he could possibly be playing Lex Luthor. WHAT? I think it could be cool.

  7. I miss Xplay

    Oh simba.

  8. Its been a fantastic year for movies. There were several movie moments from throughout the year that stand out to me in retrospect.

    1) The opening scene of Pacific Rim where Gypsy fights Knifehead. There were other, better fights in the movie, but that opening scene where you see the Jaeger in action for the first time was amazing.
    2) The Smallville fight in MOS was prbly one of the coolest movie fight scenes I have ever seen. I almost didn’t believe what I was seeing, the scale of that fight was insane. It really felt like you were watching gods go at it.
    3) Several scenes from Gravity in 3D IMAX were particularly memorable. I don’t want to go into detail for fear of spoiling the movie.
    4) Seeing Smaug in earnest was a sight to behold. WETA really outdid themselves there.

Those are just a few moments that come to mind. There are certainly others and perhaps these aren’t my most favorite films of the year (except for Pacific Rim, I loved that one haha) but these moments are why I’m a movie buff. They’re really really great stuff.

    • Agreed with everything, though I STILL haven’t seen Gravity! Smaug was incredible and the entire film was pretty damn good. I thought it was much better than An Unexpected Journey though both films still feel rather long =/. Really excited for the next installment nonetheless. Man of Steel’s Smallville fight was ridiculous and definitely one of the best fight scenes I’ve seen in a film. I also think the scene where Superman flies into the gravity beam great. I found Prisoners really good too! Favorite film of the year actually.

      • Duuuuuuuuuuuude you gotta see Gravity!! Not to be an incessant fanboy but seriously!! Its good stuff man.

I dug Hobbit2. I could have used less Tauriel/Kili scenes. Tauriel was a bada** when she was killing spiders and orcs and stuff but every scene she had with Kili was a bit bland imho. I found the rest of the movie to be very enjoyable. And that barrel riding scene!! That thing was awesome.

And yeah the gravity beam part of MOS was epic.

I still gotta see Prisoners. I’ve heard good things. If you haven’t seen them already other great movies from this year were The World’s End, Anchorman2, and The Way, Way Back.

I’m seeing American Hustle today, and possibly Wolf of Wall Street later this week :D so psyched.

        • I’ve heard plenty good things about it, urgh, though I don’t think it’s playing at my local theater anymore ><.

Tauriel was pretty badass but I agree with the love relationship/triangle. It felt a bit forced and kinda useless, though at least she and Legolas had some really awesome scenes!

That barrel scene was great. Apparently back when the trilogy was just two films, that scene would've been the climax of the first film. Also Benedict Cumberbatch (I hope I'm spelling his name right) nailed the voice of the dragon. I don't know how it would've been without him.

Prisoners is a truly excellent film if you ask me. It's pretty extreme and dark though, I enjoyed it but some folks may find it a little too much for them. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal's performances alone sold me. If you by any chance watched Zodiac (with RDJ and Jake Gyllenhaal), it's pretty similar to that film just a much darker version.

The Way Way Back is up there as one of my favorite coming of age movies. Jim Rash (the dean from Community!) is a really good writer. I also really enjoyed The World's End, though I have to say Shaun of the Dead is my fav out of Edgar Wright's trilogy! Haven't seen Anchorman 2, to be honest, I don't think I've seen the first one. Kinda surprising since I'm a big fan of Paul Rudd lol.

Enjoy American Hustle man! I'm supposed to be watching Saving Mr. Banks some time next week and hoping I watch The Wolf of Wall Street sometime in early January.

  9. @ Dr Mindbender

Did you see Anchorman 2? I saw you post in the comments of the SR review last week. Personally I loved it. In many respects it was just a repeat of the first Anchorman, but there was enough variation in there that it felt fresh and original. I laughed so hard… It was awesome. :D

  10. Actually I haven’t, not yet. My comment on the review was just having some fun with Ben’s rating. Plan on bringing the entire family to it tomorrow though. One of our Christmas traditions is me bringing everyone to the movies.

    • Exactly! I mean… I knew your comment was just a play on Ben’s rating, but your comment let me know that you’re a fan of the first anchorman and that you’ll prbly see the second one. It might be a bit crude for little ones (I couldn’t take my siblings to it without 1 or 2 of them getting a bit put off) but its great. You’ll have to let me know what you think.

Or we could just swap our fave quotes from the movie in the next OD ;) haha

      • I was very tempted to leave a “yes, he has a nickname for his pen!s” comment on the Paul Rudd is ANT-MAN page.

        • +1

hahaha yeah people might have taken that the wrong way. I would’ve gotten it tho.

  11. up here in the great white north our equivalent to SyFy > Space is having a Nicolas Cage A Thon coming up

wondering what your guys favorite Cage movie is…Lord Of War is one of my favorites

    • Face-Off

    • I was going to say Raising Arizona, but I’m gonna go with Kick-Ass. He was awesome as Big Daddy.

    • Trapped in Paradise

    • It’s a tie between The Rock and Con Air.

  12. Im happier they’re changing Superman’s costume in the sequel. Hopfully the costume will be brighter colored, with atleast a red belt to break up the blue. Personally I think the yellow belt/red briefs could be modernized if done right.

  13. On the twelfth day of Christmas

        Tomb Raider
        Devil May Cry
And I believe the golden shovels are referring to Animal Crossing :)

  14. I think there could be sometging to the casting of rudd before avengers. Whats with thr marvel netflicks shows any news on them.

Wonder woman needs armor like injustice and not a thong.

    • I think a mix between injustice armor and the kryptonian armor could be pretty cool. I know Diana is not a Kryptonian obviously but that armor was cool and I’m sure Zack and his guys will come up with something just as cool for her in MOS2.

      • *a mix between injustice armor and kryptonian armor from MOS

        sry about that haha..

  15. Saw Elysium on BluRay over the weekend.

It was okay, but I had some issues:

    1. Didn’t really feel sympathetic towards Matt Damon’s character.
    2. Jody Foster’s character acted very uncharacteristic near the end of the movie.
    3. How does a brain remain normal after a grenade explosion (why didn’t Fring’s?)?
    4. Didn’t understand Matt Damon’s sudden desire to do the right thing.

So while the visuals and action parts were good… the story/emotion was not so good.

    • I agree. I was pretty disappointed with that movie.

  16. I want to wish all of the Scranters a Merry Christmas (or Happy Holidays to be PC) before I head out. HYDRA HQ will be closed for the next few days.

I’m planning on enjoying my favorite holiday film tonight…National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and Scrooged. First off, I’ll watch Elf or Home Alone with the kids.

But next week, I get to enjoy the best New Year’s movies of all time….Ghostbusters 2!

Have a safe and Merry Christmas. Hail HYDRA!

    • Hail HYDRA!!!

  17. Not to be a broken record but…..

    Vic,

Any word about FireFox not auto filling in our name and e-mail anymore?

    • It doesn’t keep the form info on Chrome either.

      • What about IE? Does it just not fill in for any browser now?

  18. Looking forward to next year’s TASM2 I hope that the villians are well balanced and the movie don’t end up like what happened in Spider-Man 3.
