It’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.
As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice.
And hey, a very Merry Christmas to you and your families from our family here at Screen Rant!

@Jago
I agree with you completely. But we risk taking an enslaught of insults here for not loving TDK, it doesnt matter what agruments you put across!
My biggest complaint, since Nolan’s movies came out, people instantly ridicule Burtons Batman movies, and in paticular Michael Keaton himslef. Who was an amazing Batman.
My personal hope is to see Jeff Goldblum or David Tennant as The Riddler. But I’d also like them to use a less famous villain, like Liam Neeson’s character in BB.
@DrSamBeckett
lol… Thats why i usually avoid batman discussions. Also i try to avoid star trek, star wars and any other huge movies like those that have huge fanbases.
Regarding an Arkum Asylum movie… only if they incorporate the physics defying fighting moves Batman pulls off in that game. And just freaking hire Mark Hamill to play the Joker in real life, he needs another iconic role (that people actually know about).
Mark Hamill deserves to get to play the Joker in the flesh, his laugh is terrifying!
You know, i’ve always been curious as to why is it that when Peter Parker puts the Spidey suit on… All of a sudden he’s a comedian. I’m gonna catch some zzz’s/z? For now but i’ll check up on this for later. And Vic keywords… Twilight Zone, think about it.
Last one for now but “The Negotiator” and “John Q” remind me of christmas aswell. Speaking of John Q (only movie that always makes me cry… Yes i can admit that) i share my b-day with one of my favorite actors “Denzel Washington” December 28th ( 3 days after x-mas).
The best to all of you this Christmas Season!!!! Thank you ScreenRant for everything you all do and help the Screenrant Nation continue to be informed, and entertained.
btw….Albert Finney in “Scrooge” the Musical from the 70′s is still my fave rave.
Let the Yuletide Hijinx BEGIN!
@Jago
Its quite simple… if he was not laughing/cracking jokes he would be freaking out.
Its been stated a few times (by him) that is why. It is a way he deals with it.
Pick up AmSPM #542 and see him fighting at his most serious. It is quite scary.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HANNUKAH!! I hope everyone has a great holiday season and the best to everyone and their families..I wish you great joy and happiness!!
To the Screen Rant Crew!! Thanks for a year of great articles and great posts and for having a place where most of the debates and discussions are mature and not relegated to adolescent banter and cheap name calling…A great forum here!! Happy Holidays!!
@Jago
About the Spiderman/Parker comedian thing. I always thought it was to help him keep his identity a secret and to separate between the two sides of his personality. Kinda like why is it when superman puts his glasses on and becomes Clark he becomes a nerd? The extreme difference in personality would make it easier to not be figured out one. Two it shows that they are new person because of whatever happen to them to give them their power most of the time. That getting the power changed them. But thats prob digging to deep at that point.haha
@Jago
I’m pretty sure the mask thing is Psychological. Put a mask on and you hide your face, when you hide your face you tend to be a little more confident in yourself. That and the super powers means he’s able to be more cocky towards people whereas when he’s just Peter Parker, he needs to watch himself more and is less confident.
My favorite holiday film is – White Christmas. Something about the fun, the music, the color, and the love for all of humanity that is portrayed in that film makes it the must see film for the season in my DVD collection.
Of course, Die Hard is a close second. It has a lot of the same qualities: the fun, the color, and the love for all of the balls out action that can be possibly be portrayed in one film. Good times, good times.
-DrSamBeckett-
You are not alone in rating BB higher than TDK! I agree with you.
Jeff Goldblum as Riddler, I can just see it so clearly!
-Joshi-
It’s not that Peter Parker becomes confident after puttting on the costume; he gets nervous! He is going to fight villains and he is a high-school student! He is more of a nervous talker and trash talks/ jokes around to keep focus and prevent unwanted incidents(fainting,a possibility confessed by Parker several times!)
An Arkham Asylum movie would be justified in animation only!
We will get all the action we want and the best voices(Mark Hamill et all) in the genre.
Cmon animation movies can be made on a scale to compete with other genres now, piece of cake!
Merry Christmas to other members of the Screen Rantand Vic Holtreman.Thank you for all your efforts for posting those good articles.My Question is will Sherlock Holmes beat Avatar at box office I don’t think so.
@joe i hope so. happy holidays one and all
lets talk about karate kid not being in 3d lol
I hate organized religion..but I love God!
So, Merry CHRISTmas to all of you!
Batman? NOBODY does The Joker like Mark Hamill. Arkham Asylum rocked. I had the settings all the way up and my graphics cards were boiling. I too would love to see a movie like that game.
Merry CHRISTmas, Dr. Sam.
@joe
We’ll see about Sherlock Holmes. I saw it Monday night and LOVED it. I think it’s going to do very well and have fantastic word of mouth.
Vic
SPeaking of word of mouth..Avatar has made 16-17 million both Monday and Teusday..Talk about GREAT word of mouth Vic!!
At this pace it is likely headed for a 50-60 million second weekend unless HOLMES steals the thunder..hearing some great things regarding that movie…
@greenknight333…
From what I’ve heard, despite Avatar’s long running time (it’s just 15 mins. shy of three hours), the positive word-of-mouth it’s been getting should insure it keeps the top spot at the box office over Christmas and New Year’s weekends.
Sherlock Holmes won’t steal too much of Avatar’s thunder come Christmas weekend. I think it’ll come in second by the time the holiday weekend ends (probably around $40-45 million). Nice to know the movie’s been getting fairly positive reviews, despite the moaning and complaining from Holmes purists.
Almost forgot…
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all the Rant Regulars, Vic & all the cool people who make ScreenRant so much fun!
alright vic, you say open discussion? you say play nice? well, i’m about to shock: just saw “couples retreat”. I only watched it cuz i visit tahiti and its part of my life in a couple of great ways. i thougth the movie sucked but then somethign happened that is ironic: the ending was good. what? yeah, it was. the premise sucked, everything sucked. the ending though pulled the rug out from under me. what? yeah man. what? that’s what i said. am saying. what? well, when favreau and vaughn do get together, it’s a kinda magic. because they try to go through all this B.S. comedy to get to a message, to get to being what a man should be: in touch with himself, regardless of the cost. though they are very modern day american and i aint even sayin thats a good thing, cuz it aint. but sometimes it aint the means, its the end.
@ Stephie
How much do you think Avatar will make this weekend coming?
My wife LOVES Sherlock Holmes..she has read all the books..stories dozens of times each and she is pumped for this film..
@greenknight333…
At this point, the best I can give you is an educated guess… Avatar might rack up around $45 – 47 mil this weekend, but I still think Holmes will wind up in second place, unless it’s able to do what The Blind Side did against New Moon, and topple Avatar from the top spot at the box office during Christmas and/or New Year’s weekend.
One of the big factors will be the weather on Christmas weekend. Avatar would have gotten close to (or surpassed) the $100 mil mark for an opening weekend if last weekend’s East Coast blizzard hadn’t kept people at home. If the weather on Christmas weekend is good, Avatar might gain a little more ground, but Holmes should do quite well nonetheless.
Both films should have a long and healthy life at the multiplex well into January.
One of my fav xmas movies is “The Ref”! Denis Leary, Kevin Spacey and lots of profanity and good dialog makes me a happy boy
I cannot even express how much I am looking forward to seeing Sherlock Holmes on Sunday! It looks like something I am going to absolutely love every second!
And merry christmas to everyone at screenrant, love the news and love the debates.
Die Hard!!!
