As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion December 2, 2011

  1. yo

    • WHAZZUUUPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP?

  2. S’up Ranters.

    QUESTION:
Which upcoming (2011) movie are you most looking forward to?

(Mine is Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows of course…)

    • Definitely Alvin & the Chipmonks:Chipwrecked…I kid, I kid… I would have to agree with Holmes and also Ghost Protocal.

      • “Ghost Protocal.”

Is that some new drug by Pfizer? :)

        • Yes, it´s a suppository.

    • We Need to Talk about Kevin for sure and Shame I guess.

  3. Just heard they are remaking Starship Troopers. That is seriously troubling. There is NO need for this..

    • I can see them getting some better young actors (except maybe not for Neil Patrick Harris) but no way will they ever replace the drill sergeant nor the commander; those guys were perfect.

    • If they make it more like the original novel then I am all for it.

    • SR just create a thread about this.

  4. i know bale is hanging up his batman suit and won’t be forgotten as batman for a while. i know they are going to have other movies and stars take his place. him and nolan have defined themselves and are going to compare to every futute batman franchise. at this point they are untouchable and am wondering if you think bale has reached the christopher reeve status as a portraying a superhero?

    • am wondering if you think bale has reached the christopher reeve status as a portraying a superhero?

I wouldn’t say that. Before the first Superman, I had no idea who Chris Reeve was. Bale, on the other hand, has been in many well known films (even received an Oscar for 1).

      • I don’t think he’s as connected to the character because of his other high-profile and/or highly recognized previous roles. In addition, plenty of other actors have put on the cape and cowl (on both TV and in Hollywood, in both live action and animation, as well as straight-to-DVD features). Also, most Batman creations are good.

By contrast, Superman hasn’t been as consistently strong. The treatment of him has been very hit and miss, both on TV and in Hollywood.

Also, Reeve put on the cape in a different time, when people took on an iconic role such as that, they were pretty much typecast. There simply are more opportunities for some actors who take on iconic roles, and TV is no longer viewed as a step down from Hollywood.

      • I just meant when you think of a batman movie do you think of bale now. didn’t mean to confuse you w/ the roles he’s been in and his stardom. no doubt, he’s a great actor and has many good movies.

  5. Well when i think of supes(in film) I imagine Reeves but when I think of batman(in film) I think of Keaton so personally I think not. Maybe that’s just because I love Burtons batman films tho

  6. Khan is once again rumored to be the Star Trek 2 villain. Honestly, that makes me less excited about the film. I want to see NEW stuff in this NEW franchise. What’s point in rebooting it if you’re just gonna rehash old stuff?

    • The same reason they’re using Kirk and Spock. To take the characters that everybody knows and make them AWESOME…ER!

  7. In this age of reboots we live in if you could pick one movie or tv show to bring back what would it be? my movie would be Jumper so that they would do it more like the novel, and my show would definitely be mst3k but keep the same voice actors for the bots. I would kill for some new bad movie riffs

    • Day the Earth Stood Still, but this time, keep the same premise…and for goodness sake, get an actor that embodies Klatu better!

  8. Anyone think Robin should be in the next Batman reboot? How would you design a new Batman costume?

    • Arkham city robin. The suit would be more armour then anything no tights. Battle pants and High boots. Short sleeves on his torso and that’s it. :) the cowl would be a cowl and not just a mask. I think there’s a cool way to design it to make it fit in his costume. :)

    • Just how it was in Batman & Robin… Timeless

  9. Marvel Studios is creating a movie universe that may rival it’s comic universe. Will Disney help or hinder Marvel’s movie progress and what will TV production yield? Animation and a live action Hulk show have been talked about but not much recently.

  10. Sad piece of information: i bought the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy novel, problem is i’m on chapter 3 but i’m more interested in watching the trailer over and over again, who can blame me though? that violin part that kicks in half way??? SO epic.

  11. @shacasha
When you get to the end don’t tell us who it is okay.

  12. @ Wallywest
It depends on how they go about doing it. If it’s just like the comics it probably wouldn’t translate onto the screen that well. I mean adopting kids is all the rage right now with a-
listers, I’m not hating on adoption. Just
making a point, but what kind of a person
would take a teenager out to battle grown ups? Works great in comic and cartoons not to great in films trying to be realistic.

Now if Bruce adopted a whole bunch of kids and trained them for years to be a team then
that would be a bit different. Because they
would be a trained unit who would have each
    other’s backs.

Imagine it a team of vigilantes patrolling Gotham instead of just one guy? Lots more threatening to other gangs. No? And you could have everyone knightwing, bat girl, robin, red robin, oracle, huntress, even bathound. And yes I know some of those characters don’t exist in certain universes and so on and so forth. Nevertheless how bad ass would that be?

    • @ Brandon

I agree about your opinion of how it works & makes more sense comic book & animated series. I liked how they played it out in Batman Forever except for like Bruce Wayne’s parents being murdered by a Batman villain, samething happed again with Dick Grayson’s family being murdered by Two-face.

Id like to see the next Batman reboot be somewhat similiar to Batman:TAS. Quite a few people i notice online think the same & wished Bruce Timm made the Jump to makin live-action films since to date Batman:TAS was the one thing that stuck closely to the mythos than any live-action film.

As for the next Batsuit, id like to see something new. Material wise. Maybe have Batman’s costume made outta the same material as Cavill’s Superman costume? Reason is because Batman is agile & been tought by the best multiple martial-arts teachers. Imo, outta all the films to date he came close to dying as Batman was in Batman Forever when being buried alive before Dick saved him. Other than that, he’s been cut, scratched, beaten, mauled. Of-course, TDKR might be the first film we actually see him get really injured or come close to death a 2nd time.

Or another costume could be made similiar from Batman: Arkham City along Catwoman’s costume which was great.

  13. @ avenger film I’m most looking forward to this Christmas is definetly Sherlock Holmes 2.
