I don't recall the names of anyone except Jay Gatsby. And that wasn't his fate. The other WAS exactly how you describe, so I don't know which main character you're talking about that did not do the things that the film is against.
  • Ken J
Yes it was, but from the way this guy is describing why he wants to remake this film, I have an idea he's going to change the film around to show whatever message he feels people "need" to see... Read what he said in that short article, he has an agenda beyond just trying to make a good film.

It is a statement on the excesses of the wealthy and how you can use money to turn a blind eye to how you live your life and how you treat people..Nick..the main character somehow manages to get pulled into that world without letting it destroy him because by the end he leaves the aristocrats and returns to his home in the midwest..gladly leaving behind those people and their dysfunctions and their twisted morality..hey I hate my spouse so it's ok for me to cheat, hey I'm rich I can treat you asnyway I want..I don't understand the blue bloods society..Great book though from a great author.
  • @Ken J

I don't recall precisely (saw the original once a LONG time ago), but isn't that basically what the book and the original are about? The excesses of the wealthy?

    OMG, anyone read this?

    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id...

So he wants to RAPE a classic and turn it into a message movie?? Greeeaaat.

He might as well get Robert Redford again, he'll probably be glad to do another message movie... Seems like his thing lately.

Nolan has created an alternate universe version of Batman, if you will - and say what you like, his take on Batman and his world has worked VERY well. I give him props for having the integrity to stick to his vision.

It's the non-fantastic take on his films that have made them so popular IMHO.

I like your idea but I can see Batman saying something like "Great. Another one to keep my eye on."

Just wanted to take a step back right quick: Doesn't anyone think Nolan takes himself a little too seriously? I mean to erase decades of rich comic history by just saying, "Well it doesn't matter what happened in the comics, this is how it happens in MY universe" That's the problem with every comic movie, is that they tend to ignore the comics. I think that to include Superman at this point would be a mistake, but superheroes fit into the universe because its BATMAN! I mean, that's part of what makes him so awesome. He fights side by side with the most powerful beings in the galaxy, and they all have the utmost respect for him, despite that he's a normal man. It would be awesome if they did a film epilogue where Batman is sitting on a rooftop, doing surveillance, and a big red and blue object whizzes by and he's like, "What was that?" And voila! Justice League movie tie-in. And not Justice League 90210, but a decent ensemble movie.
  • I've been going round and round on this issue with them. To their credit, even though it's taking a long time they ARE working with me on this issue.

For some reason I don't get emails when Vic posts. Yahoo must be taking it personally.

On the Day the Earth Yawned, just heard that Bayern Munich, the top German football club, are pretty annoyed and perplexed that their stadium is in the movie being destroyed when they were never asked for permission or even told it was happening.

Must have been fun for the gathered fans when they showed the trailer in the stadium!

"Nolan doesn’t want Superman in his movies because in his established Batman universe super-powered beings don’t exist."

I think that is the way it should and will stay.

you think they will bring in Killer Croc? I've kinda always wanted to see him on the big screen, though he doesn't have much depth, he certainly could cause mayhem. I really am not liking the Idea of catwoman, her being in it would be perfect after the fatality the Joker did on Maggie Gyllenhaal, but she just does not seem right. to me at least Catwoman does not fit in the Begins universe.

You know, Ive been doing some thinking, and well, I know how Chris Nolan said that he doesnt think that Superman would ever fit in the Dark city of Gotham, but think about this. We all know that Batman is on the run because the city of Gotham thinks he murdered all those people. What better way to bring in Superman. (Assuming that WB can come up with a better actor who can show a dark side to the character) Superman could come into Gotham to help rid the city of the pesky Bat and they battle it out. All while another villian more powerful than them alone is terrorizing the city. Some how it comes into light what Batmans plan was about being protrayed as a villian and they team up to kick some Supervillian butt. Just my thought in my head.
  • So, I was watching I am Legend a few days ago (I had only seen the later half of it), and I was thinking they could actually excuse a sequel fairly easily.

Smith's character was already shown to be delusional (seeing "Fred" move, seeing his family, etc). So the start of the movie would show Smith having dreamed he "went through with it" and blew himself up with a grenade, and that whatshername and the kid actually made it to a colony somewhere. In reality, he didn't blow himself up, and the three of them are heading out of the city per the alternate ending.

Make fun of the fact that there was two endings to the first movie, and have the reality be somewhere in the middle without explaining it in details throughout the movie.

    I think it could work.
