As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion December 11, 2013

  1. Falling in love by daylight, fighting evil by moonlight.

    • Now I want to watch it because of you. -_-

  2. Godzilla has landed, what did you think of the trailer?
    I, really liked it.

    • It was an awesome trailer and that music from 2001:ASO really added to the creepiness. Really looking forward to seeing it now.

I just hope I’ll be able to put that Austin Powers scene out of my mind when I see it..

      • ive thought of that clip too, i like that charmander runs away in the background.

        • Hahaha, the whole concept that they can’t use Godzilla because of copyright laws, but two Pokemon characters are just there randomly, makes me laugh :D

          • Trailer was awesome. This movie is going to be so awesome for me because I have been a HUGE fan ever since I was about 3 or 4. I actually just saw Godzilla: King of the Monsters! In Walmart on VHS before my 4th birthday. I thought the cover looked cool. and my mom snuck in behind me and bought it right then. end of story.

When everyone else had GI Joe or power rangers or He man or dinosaurs or trucks or whatever they were into as a kid. I had Godzilla.

            Go go Godzilla!

            • I used to have a godzilla compendium of all the monsters and I really got into them when the destroy all monsters game came out on gamecube.
Also like the godzilla animated series that came out around the new millenium.

            • I was about 6 myself, in 1980, when I remember first watching the marathons on Thanksgiving and the day after that used to play on channel 11 in NY.

By the time I was in third grade, I would get into fights with my school teacher because I used to draw Godzilla all of the time and she had some problem with it.

The trailer is looking good, I’m stoked.

              B

  3. It looked like a cross between Gandalf falling through the hole in the earth with the Balroc, every smoky Sci-Fi movie every made, two styles of trailers ( the long extended scene trailer type and then the silent cut scene to cut scene ), a mix of the bad Godzilla movie and Cloverfield, and the typical people standing around gawking on the street in shock.

And then the Godzilla yell which made the rest of the two minutes of the trailer almost worth it.

I am kind of torn on it.

    • well most likely the godzilla solo scenes arent probably done yet, but screenrant has pointed out you can see him. But I do hope to see a lot more of him after his ominous presence makes itself known, kinda like jaws.

  4. And now that some time has passed, what do you think of gadot as wonder woman.
For me as long as wonder woman is portrayed as a fierce feminine warrior as well as kind and caring, she doesnt need to be bulky.

    • I am kind of torn on that one too. I have only really seen her in one clip on the internet…it did not scream WW to me…but then again RDJ did not screen Stark to me and I would never in a million years have said CE would be Cap….so its possible that she might do a decent job perhaps even a brilliant job….Zach did a good job picking Lena in 300 and Eva in the sequel…

I guess it depends on what type of WW he is going for…he is changing up Bruce to be the older, wiser Bruce ( I think ) so this WW might be a unique vision as well.

    • Still happy with and excited by the possibilities inherent in the choice :)

    • I admit also oddly enough to see more of the computerized version of his father again. I am not sure why but he knowing what was going to happen and putting in people in specific spots was a high point in the movie for me. And more Lois and her reporting/investigating abilities as well.

    • I’ve never heard of the woman, so I don’t have much of an opinion… She’s obviously physically fit, so I just hope she can act. Wonder Woman has superpowers, so she doesn’t need to be all muscly/bulky and big. As long as she looks physically fit, it’ll work visually.

All I can really say is thank goodness they didn’t go with that wrestler chick who’s trying to get by as an actress: Carano, Carnino, whatever-her-name-is.

      • I’m glad they chose a serious, seasoned actress to bring weight to the role instead of choosing someone like Carano based solely on body type.

Oops, my mistake- turns out they hired a lingerie model who had a bit part in some Vin Diesel movie.

        • I wouldn’t know because I haven’t seen her act yet. I have, however, seen Carano act in multiple movies and she’s terrible in each of them, so at this point – out of the two – I’d still take Gadot

    • I will say the video of Gal performing the Wonder Woman theme I just watched dancing badly in a bra did not help to really inspire a lot of trust. :o

      • I wouldn’t worry about that one too much: we can expect many similar chopped-up random videos of her with “hilarious” added music on the internet over the coming months.

    • I’m a really big fan of her background. You cannot argue her natural toughness.

    • I would have preferred someone else. I mean I like Gadot, but she just doesn’t scream WW to me. And I know she doesn’t have to be bulky but she still need a more defined body. (I was really hoping for Jaimie Alexander)

    • The main picture that SR has used for the articles at first made me think they had cast Emily VanCamp. Once I read it was Gadot( and who she is ) I was more than fine with it.

IMO I am more concerned about what the costume will look like. Could be she doesn’t have one in this film.

      • I hope its armor that mimics the classic costume.

        • Actually Id like if she had her recent “odyssey” look with the pants as well.

          • I would like to see an Armor look. But the “odyssey” costume would fit better with the current world the DCCU has. An armor costume would be good for a solo movie that had a big battle on Themyscira.

    • i really like gal gadot as an actress and she is very pretty to go with her ability, but they better plan on beefing her up because if they allow her to portray wonder woman with
the physique she has now, she will be laughed off the screen along with ben affleck trying to go over the top with batman.

    • well, I’ve cooled off a bit. I truly would not want any actress to get breast enhancement surgery just for a role. I am grieving the loss of Wonder Woman’sy wondrous mammaries, but I only grieve for the fictional character, I think Gal is lovely…

  5. Anyone here extremely disgruntled with/hate the current state of sci-fi in visual media? Most recent sci-fi movies, as of late, start off with exploration, then turn into this crappy derivative horror/thriller, or the sci-fi portions are merely sci-fi action and nothing more.

And more recently, with sci-fi on tv, the science part is extremely diluted or watered down. The sci-fi portions are nothing more than a backdrop, and they focus not on drama, which I’d be fine with, but soap opera/teenage-level melodrama elements. I hate that so much. To me, that says they don’t have much of a good story to tell, and what little they do they have, they’re adding in filler (most often soap/melodrama) to extend the story.

I mean, Breaking Bad was able to present some science in really cool ways, and that’s not even a sci-fi show! There’s also too much police procedural-type sci-fi/sci-fi fantasy. Where are the space based sci-fi?! Anyone else dissatisfied?

Have you seen any of these? I wasn’t a big fan of Avatar but I really dug a lot of the movies on that list.

Elysium wasn’t bad either. Political-ness aside.

      • Yeah, I’ve seen all of them and more. But none of them really emphasize the sci portion of sci-fi which I was sort of driving at towards the end. But I did enjoy most of them! Actual drama as opposed to the other kinds I mentioned. Just want a bit more of the sci-fi that revolve around cool scientific concepts and less around technobabble, science buzz words, dismissive explanation, or fantasy/magic based sci.

        • Sounds like you would enjoy Primer.

Check that out and Upstream Color, his new film that came out this year. I’ve only seen Primer but they’re both supposed to be pretty good.

    • Completely agree, and I think it comes down to the terrible paradox that the more money is flung at incredible visuals, the fewer risks can afford to be taken with concepts and storylines. Simple as that.

      • Yeah, what I don’t understand though is why they don’t just throw just a little bit of money to hire for some consultation or inspiration from professors and others knowledgeable in the hard sciences. Hell, I’m willing to bet that most professors will just talk to them for free! They’d love nothing more than free publicity for their respective fields and would love to talk anything science. Don’t even need to throw money at them, just have to work up the courage to just talk to them.

        • An example of that is Danny Boyle hiring Professor Brian Cox as a technical advisor on Sunshine – another film that started out with the best of intentions and degenerated into psycho-slasher nonsense towards the end.

One recent(ish) SF film I’d really rate is the 2002 remake of Solaris. An understated, intelligently written and played encounter with something truly alien and unknowable. That, typically, sank like a bathtub full of lead at the box office.

Just out of interest, have you seen Primer? Ultra-low-budget time travel movie, made by a guy with a background in software engineering and mathematics. It seems to split audiences: people tend to find it either tedious and impenetrable, or endlessly rewatchable (I’m in the latter camp).

            • So I can post two paragraphs separately but not the third one? Great.

  6. Smaug Friday is almost here

  7. I know i am a bit repetitive and sometimes sound like eyore, but only because I want good films and by chatting/Ranting we communicate these ideas to one another right? I thought about the news about the X-men sequel X-men Apocalypse and my excitement seems to have faded a bit. They are saying it will mainly take place in the past which mean we will not get Cyclops, Gambit, Archangel, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Iceman, and Colossus, at least not much of them if any, because they where not even born in the 70′s? I for one want these characters to be the main characters and would rather see a bit less 70′s and a bit more original cast. maybe they can have the Original cast time travel. Any thoughts?

  8. Anybody wanna know my treatment for a Wonder Woman solo movie ?

  9. Sure Monsieur.

  10. Does anyone else have problems with the comment system all of a sudden? Yesterday I received a ton of “New Comment On” email from Screenrant even though I didn’t opt in for followup notifications. When I tried to opt out it didn’t work, so I deleted all the Screenrant cookies from my browser and tried again, which also didn’t work.

Now I not only still get a load of followup emails, but the comment function doesn’t even remember my name and email address anymore, so I have to re-enter them every single time when I want to write a comment.

    • Phew, so it isn’t just me!!! I thought I had unknowingly changed something.

      I wonder what happened…

Also, I have to “previous scree” every time I comment, at least today and yesterday evening…?

    • *static*

      …YOU…
      …ARE NOT…
      …ALONE…

      • Good to know. ;)

    • same here…i also am having trouble with Java wanting to update, it only happens on this site..besides other problems

    • I have the exact opposite problem. I stopped receiving any “New Comment On” emails about two months ago. I thought it might be something to do with the settings on my anti-virus software, but I’ve had tried adjusting them with no luck. Which is a pain, as I have to physically check back onto a thread now.

I’ve also noticed today the same thing you mention about the name and email address boxes. Although mine still contain the info as predictive text, I still have to type the first letter into each box before every post.

  11. i want to see old arnold vs young arnold terminator movie

  12. I replied to TheLostWinchester & my post didn’t come up. I have the same exact problems.

Anyone know if the 5th Terminator film is connected to the previous 4 films in any way at all?

  13. I am experiencing similar issues. This site lately has left much to be desired, especially with competition as plentiful as it is. It’s understandable to expect a little patience from your viewers/site visitors, but only so much. This comment issue seems to be the straw that has broken the camel’s back for me. Obvious bias for certain movies and/or shows coupled with disdain from the employees about the readers/listeners (podcast) creates the perfect mixture for me to pursue my entertainment news at another site. An occasional joke about how a comment or two disagreed with a writer’s article can be expected, however the constant condescension of any and all that may disagree is the behavior of a typical commenter, NOT a professional journalist. Putting a spoiler in the title of an article then lecturing any who dare express their angst with another article does not sway people to continue frequenting your site. I am making no attempt to attack SR, my attempts are to give constructive criticism and reasoning behind my (at least partial)departure. This is not some line drawn in the sand where I proclaim to never come here again. I certainly hope some of my concerns are taken into consideration for future reference by the employees of this site. I was a very regular visitor/commenter/podcast listener of this site and that has slowly deteriorated. As of late I go to the site, skim to see if there’s anything of interest, then move onto another site or two. I do not listen to the podcast any longer and feel like the eventual complete dismissal of this site from my daily activities is becoming more and more like a real possibility.

    • Chuck’s follower.

      • That would certainly completely discredit my entire post so how convenient of you to say it. I know how much easier it is for someone with your limited mental capacity to think that instead of initiating the gruelling & debilitating task of actually thinking for yourself. Attempting feverishly to wrap your head around the fact that someone may just have some valid concerns. It is much simpler to make a broad stroke statement because it means nothing is wrong therefore nothing should be noted.
I hope screen rant takes customer feedback more seriously than a simpleton such as yourself. I used to enjoy this site much more than I have been lately, I voiced my concerns and stand by them.

  14. I don’t get why people are complaining about not seeing all of Godzilla in the teaser. Its a TEASER!!! Don’t you want to wait until the actual film before seeing all of him, or at least until the final trailer? what happened to all those people complaining about seeing to much in trailers nowadays. MAKE UP YOUR MIND PEOPLE!!!!

ok, the above comment was mostly for fun, but i am serious about the complaints about not seeing him in a TEASER.

    Have a good day.

    • Thought the trailer was perfect actually. It was designed to match up the audience with the characters and Strathairn’s speech, a “We don’t know what this is, but it isn’t something we have ever seen before.”. So to see the G in full would’ve been absolutely jarring.

… and aye, as for the comments about the comments above, it is borked at the moment. Details no longer saving, redirecting to other pages not connected (wp comments, entertainment videos). Something is wrong with the Matrix here.

    • I liked the fact that they played Godzilla close to their chest and just showed him in the debris. It’s the first trailer, just having a tease of him makes the most sense. In the end, I thought the trailer as a whole kinda mediocre. It didn’t really have a flow to me, it felt kinda choppy to be honest. I was a big fan of the comic con trailer though, it didn’t show much but it was well put together. I’m still looking forward to the movie, I think it’s going to be awesome!

      • I agree the middle section is a bit muddled. Would’ve made more sense to have the V/O as the soundtrack to that, then show the skydive, then finish with the dust cloud segment.

As it stands though, job done. Moved it from just outside the radar to front and centre.

  15. I totally agree with you Draagyn. People can be so fickle. And heck if they went the Cloverfield route and didn’t show any of him till the movie came out I would be fine with that. Mystery adds intrigue.

But to be fair they DID show him in the teaser, twice.

    • This was meant as a reply to @ Draagyn

what is up with the comments lately??

  16. warner brothers may as well call superman vs batman JUSTICE LEAGUE, because instead of being patient and roll out wonder woman, green lantern, aquaman, green arrow, flash movies,
etc, or do it as combo movies put two in one film like the next man of steel film…
the problem is they are putting their eggs all into one basket and hope its enough to overpower avengers record and possibly avengers 2 record. (because just cracking 175
    million and beyond is difficult)

  17. Was thinking about the Marvel/Netflix venture.

With Daredevil, Cage, Iron Fist and Jones being the 4 people getting shows, and them culminating in the Defenders, could we possibly see the Kingpin as the over-arcing villain here? Have all 4 people face guys like Bullseye, Typhoid, the Hand etc… during their shows with the Kingpin pulling the strings from behind the scenes, then have the Defenders show them all going after Kingpin directly.

I think this could be a killer concept.

    • yes i was thinkig along the samelines, i just wonder if they will produce all 4 shows around the same time or 1 after the other

  18. Screen Rant didn’t even mention the SAG award noms???

  19. *testing*

  20. Okay, I’ve now tried twice to reply to moz, and both times my post has vanished into the ether like a drunk falling off a yacht…

  21. Just tried again and it’s gone for the third time. Wearing a bit thin now.

  22. Fourth and final.

    @ moz

  23. I’ve managed to post a paragraph apiece in two separate posts, but the third one won’t go through at all. Anyone else having this kind of problem?

  24. Arrow Spoilers:

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

After some exteme binge watching I’m all caught up with the show now. I must say that I liked the mercilesslly killing Hood of Season 1 better. It gave the show a gritty edge over other shows of that ilk. Now, with the new set of morals, with Roy Harper getting slowly set up as his Robin, and The Count feeling very jokerish, Arrow feels more like a bargin bin Batman show than ever before. It’s still good, though. Looking forward to what happens when the show goes full on super powers.

The introduction of Barry Allen was fine. I liked his comicbooky music cues. At first he felt a bit like an injection from Agents of Shield, with him being so young and nervous and it made me scared for the show, but his mannerism toughened up towards the end of the episode, which I liked better.

Laurel is getting quite irritating and is a far cry from the character that we knew from Season 1. Understandably so, but that doesn’t change that her behavior is highly annoying now.

    • Well it’s understandle that they’d dip into Batman’s rogues gallery. I mean Green Arrow was put into the JL as Batman’s replacement of sorts and they’re character traits overlap somewhat. Not to mention that next to Spidey, Bats has the best/largest rogues gallery of all comics.

That doesn’t stop me from being excited for Arrow though. We got Grundy in Cyrus Gold who’ll most likely return and f-ing Deathstroke behind the curtain. Merlyn is paitently waiting in the wing and Ra’s or Nyssa will be showing up later this season. Giving Harper a level up in badass would have to happen sooner rather than later with all the escalation going on. I was hoping Diggle would be the one to get the Mirakaru injection, but maybe they’re working on something else for him.

And I have a feeling that Gustin’s Flash will sneak up on people, because I say he’s growing on me. If they make him a sh- talking hero akin to Spidey or Wally West even better.

      • And the Charles Dickens ‘Christmas Carol’ theme of ‘Three Ghosts’ was a nice touch.
