It’s Wednesday so it’s time for our weekly open discussion post. Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.
BTW there’s apparently still a problem with Yahoo email being bounced, sorry about that. Fixed one thing and another broke. If you use a Yahoo address and ARE receiving comment reply emails please let me know.
Also, I want to remind you guys – When we run a contest… ENTER IT!!

So im wondering why all the fuss about heroes “sucking”? Ive followed the show from day one and love it. I was a little disappointed with season 2, but this season has been awesome so far. I was just wondering if there are as many that do like it that dont?
Wow. Screentrant got a lot cleaner! Kudos on that.
Do you listen to any podcasts? If so, what are your favorites (movies or otherwise)? Kermode is a personal favorite as is Film Junk.
Also, I want your 5 predictions for who you think (NOT who you WANT) will be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Here are mine:
Dark Knight
Benjamin Button
Wrestler
Slumdog Millionaire
Benjamin Button
So yeah, I listed Benjamin Button twice. I meant “The Reader” for the other one.
In no particular order:
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
Benjamin Button
Knowing the Academy, Frost/Nixon or Milk will win simply because of the politics of it. Then we’re going to have to listen to that person ranting on and on and on and on instead of thanking people and getting f— off the stage like they should.
No thanks, I’m skipping the oscars again this year like I do every year. I know what movies I liked, I don’t need an academy telling me if my opinions are “right” or not.
Chuck continues to charm. This week they a DeLorean and the General Lee. Gary Cole rocked as Sarah’s father and Yvonne Strahovski knocked her last scene with Cole out of the park. Love this cast!
My yahoo emails have been coming through fine.
I’m a big fan of Mark Kermode too, especially the rants.
@Andrew James
Have you not been here over the last 6 months? I had the site redesigned quite a while back.
BTW, I find this timely considering the message of the uber-enviro-friendly “Day the Earth Stood Still” release this Friday:

The Dark Knight
The Reader
Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
There is ALWAYS the possibilty of a dark horse in the 5th slot .
A film no one is thinking about.
Seven Pounds is a dark horse possibilty
Never count out Will Smith at Oscar time .
No one has mentioned Reservation Road..hmmm
@arctictwist:
I have to admit, this week’s heroes was the BEST episode of this season, and better than anything in season 2. It’s just nice to have the old sylar back. I think that’s what has been missing.
@greeknight
Do you mean “Revolutionary Road?” I saw it and wrote a review that I can’t publish until it’s released at the end of this month. Big time Oscar material all around.
Vic
Did anyone hear about the “accidental” frontal nudity on Fox’s broadcast of the Vikings game?
Apparently, they were in the locker room interviewing the coach, and in the background was a nude player.
I want to know; after Janet’s “nipple-gate” how come there is no “penis-gate”?? Where is the hoopla and outrage?
Zipper: Could be the result of 2 of the writers having been dumped from the staff and the scribes focusing back on what people loved.
Heroes just may improve before the season ends to the point of people getting back on board.
Hey you regular Screen Rant weenies, have you bothered to enter our latest DVD giveaway? As of right now your odds of winning would be 1 in 8. How can you NOT enter with odds like that?
Vic
excuse me Vic, i prefer the term wiener
arctictwist, i think what people have been most upset with is the lack of direction this season has had. Season 1 was very streamlined, “save the cheerleader, save the world” and then how to stop the bomb from going off. This season it just seems like it has been all over the place, no direction. It’s not untill the last few episodes where we finally see the main story arc. I will stick with it for the rest of this season hoping it gets better, last episode was good,hopefully they get better from here on out.
Pitching in on the Heroes conversation. I too thought the last episode was one of the better ones to date. I can’t put my finger on exactly why but I was glued to it.
My favorite part surprisingly was the pure dialog scene between Hiro and his mother and I’m usually the one to hate sappy dialog moments. Something about that one though had me more enticed than any of the action scenes.
Any word on the “life-support” of MOWE…
at least let me know where the cast is going…especially Christian and Alfre
and the Dr….lemme quit before i start
ranting…one final thought…is the 9th
episode going to be a cumulating of the final 5 or a “kibbles-n-bits” cliffhanger?…woe is i…auntie i
I have to agree with blipvert, that the scene between Hiro and his Mom was really touching. Hiro is one of my favorite characters of the show, and Hiro’s and Ando’s antics are some of my favorite parts of the show. That being said, Ive had a couple of problems with the season, such as Mohinder’s mood swing super power, but Im willing to excuse such things. The last episodes seem to have been getting better.
Just as a general question though, has Sylar now become his own side again? Meaning he’s just after powers again, or does he have any general goals? I have to kinda admit I liked seeing him good and offering Peter waffles.
The last couple of episodes of Heroes really have come back strong IMHO. More cohesive and character driven… I’m liking it.
Vic
always seems that when I decide to stop watching heroes, it comes out with a top notcch episode, I’ll have to watch it on the net tonight
oops Thanks Vic…I hear DeCaprio and Winslet give Oscar worthy performances..Maybe you can’t comment yet but is the film overall Oscar worthy as best picture?
Cheers
@TerriOC
The difference is that this was accidental, Janet’s thing was obviously intentional. Despite all their denials, only a moron will believe their story.
I have The Dark Knight two-disc special edition sitting on my coffee table – no time to watch until this weekend. I hear that there are no deleted Joker scenes. Is this true WTF? An outrage!?!
@greenknight
Heck, I don’t know from Oscars… I suppose it could win/be nominated.
Vic
Maybe no one else feels cheated by not getting to see addition Joker scenes? That’s the #1 thing I was waiting for with the DVD.
Anyway, I’m reading over the RDJ Oscar nod posts and I’m wondering – who does everyone think should be nominated for best actor besides Heath Ledger?
