It’s Wednesday so it’s time for our weekly open discussion post. Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.
As is becoming common, I have a side note: If you use Yahoo for email, you’re probably not receiving comment updates from us. It seems that Yahoo has blacklisted my server IP because it thinks I’m a spammer. I’m working on resolving the problem.

Vic,
You may have weighed in on this before, but how much of an effect do you think the release date of a film has on its potential box office? I keep hearing about tent pole films being released in the summer to gain advantage of extra viewings and I understand that. But if a film is a hit, wouldn’t it be a hit no matter when it was released? Would The Dark Knight have made as much if it had been released during October? And wouldn’t it be to a film’s advantage to have less competition during that time? And as a moviegoer it would seem to be more advantageous to have the big films spread out throughout the year as opposed to the “peak’ times so that you could digest what was out there. Thoughts?
@Shut up Stella
I agree with the premise of spacing out tentpole films, but I think it is just too much of a risk in studio exec’s eyes. They won’t risk what they perceive as being the only way.
Hey, has anybody been watching Sanctuary on Sci-Fi?
I haven’t gotten the chance to watch it yet and was wondering if it was worth my time.
Thanks.
With the relaese of The Dark Knight next week, has anyone had any thoughts on who they would like to be the villian in the next film. I really enjoyed Deadshot n the Gotham Knight Anime, I don’t knof they could bring him back for a film though. I would love to see The Riddler, however in Batmans Nolanverse, I don’t see how they could make it work. I think Catwoman would be a mistake, as that horse has been beat so many times, there is not much left (Halle Berry, anyone?).
I think to pt a entirely new spin on things, they should comsider going back to drawing board,and create a Villian,that would not only fit in Nolanverse, but versitileenough for any of the comic book story arc’s.
But I belive trick for this Batmans series is to stop at three,and follow in the footstpes of Burtons Batman, and spin it off into a caoon series, but directed at an adult audience.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks Vic, i thought that was wierd that i wasnt receiving any emails, i usually get 20 per day
but yesterday i got none.
@Shut up Stella!
I’m no expert but I do believe that release date makes a difference. It can sway people who were on the fence about seeing a movie one way or the other, and movies do get more multiple viewings in the summer than the do in the middle of winter, I would think.
Vic
Yeah, I was wondering why my yahoo account was so empty. I’ve found the email system very handy for keeping track of where I’ve commented and taken an interest.
Give those yahoo people a kick up the arse.
BTW, will we be getting a review for Punisher: War Zone from you Vic?
What’s everyone’s thoughts on the Rome movie development, and the success of the stars of that show?
I think a movie would be great to see, but not sure it would be successful beyond the fans that the show already had.
As for the stars, I’m stoked that Pullo seems to be on his way to a successful movie career, with the announcement he will be in a movie with Denzel.
And Vorenus is up for the role of Thor, that could be a good or bad thing I guess, hopefully his career keeps going. And I was surprised to learn he was in Trainspotting. I saw that movie as a young teenager and don’t remember him in it at all. It’s funny how that happens sometimes.
@Oscar
Unfortunately I’m not on any pre-screening lists for PWZ so I’ll have to go see it when I have a chance. Busy weekend, don’t know if I’ll get the opportunity. But I *do* want to review it.
Vic
Hey folks,
Be aware I’ve just made a change to the subscribe to comments feature. By default the box is now NOT checked, so if you want to subscribe to a post you’ll have to check the box before commenting.
Still working on the Yahoo email issue.
Thanks,
Vic
Anyone see the new Benjamin Button promo posters at the local bus bench lately huh have ya ???
What a sad lackluster pathetic job of capturing my 26 second attention span,,,,
Oh, look, its a airbrushed close up of Pitt or the alternate Blanchett version. Ooooowow what marketing genius had the downright gutsy courage to take that breathtaking radical direction in poster art marketing ???
Will we ever know ?
Vic can you look into this,?
Btw, I sooooooo hope this film tanks!!!!!
It will tank,
but it will be reincarnated later after vanishing from theatres
anybody get the humor of my last post?
I got the humor, now what?
Anybody catch Shatners new talk show last night?
I thought it was kind of interesting.
I didn’t know it was on, or I would have watched it…
Shatner should have contacted Vic, at Screen Rant,,,
Lost opportunity eh?
@JMoney, wait, what Rome movie announcement?? I missed it, I’ve been asking about that for a while. I think Rome is one of the best tv series to have ever been made and would have loved to see one last epic adventure of Pullo and Vorenus. Yes, I truly believe Vorenus is alive because Rome never simply implied someone died, they always showed it, so the fact they didn’t SHOW him dying is proof he’s alive. Please tell me I’m right.
And @Vic, so it wasn’t just me not getting emails. I was wondering what was up with that. I got the newsletter, but not the notifications.
790, Shatners new show is called Shatners Raw Nerve.
its on the Biography channel in two 30 minute blocks
Its just Shatner and one guest and they talk about personal stuff not the guests latest book or movie .
this weeks guests are Valerie bertinelli
and Tim Allen.
New episodes every teusday at 10
ken J, is wasn’t really an announcement, more just the creator again saying that he would like to wrap the show up with a movie. they reported it on a couple other websites. more gossip than news I guess, but there’s hope i guess.
Here in the UK…George Takei is in the final of ITV’s “I’m a Celebrity”…a reality tv show that puts 12 famous and not-so-famous folk in the Austrailian jungle where they have to do variouse tasks to win food etc…he’s came across as a really nice guy and has won many new fans here who mabey didn’t remember him from his Star Trek fame…I’ll let you know how he does tomorrow…the final day!!!
You know, I kind of hate how the main page loads, then when it’s done loading, it goes to the anchor at the top of the page. I start scrolling early on, and I start opening articles in new tabs, but that always screws me up, lol.
@Ken J
Is the site doing that again? Next time it does, could you note what ad appears at the top of the page? Maybe I can narrow down what’s causing that.
Vic
I don’t know, it does that for me every time. I just thought it was the way the site was designed.
What did everyone think of Heroes this week? I know that this season has been up and down, but I really enjoyed the last episode. ****SPOILER**** Yeah, it was obvious that once the eclipse ended they would get their powers back, but it was nice to see Gabriel become Sylar again. I’m looking forward to next week’s episode!!
***end spoiler****
Oh, and I JUST watched Ratatouille through Netflix download this week and I have 2 things to say: 1) It was a very cute movie and Pixar once again did a GREAT job with the animation and the story. 2)I LOVE NETFLIX!! I have a cable modem, so the quality was almost as good as DVD and the download was quick with no lag. I’m seriously considering the Netflix movie player for my TV now!!
Hey Vic, looks like Yahoo took off your IP ban, I’m getting your notifications again.
Yup, I came on today and had almost 30 emails. Good to catch up.
Oh man, GREAT news! Thanks for letting me know, guys!
Vic
Come on guys, I think it’s time you migrate to the future of email: Gmail!
No problems receiving emails, great spam filter, unlimited storage, killer chat…
And no, I do not work for Google.
Um, and I’ve never had a problem receiving mail with Yahoo either, this is the first time. I’m sure if there are enough gmail accounts here, his ip might get banned by them too. It’s actually a good thing, Yahoo is working hard to limit how much spam people get. And yes, yahoo has unlimited storage too, they’ve had it for quite some time now, nothing new.
