Ken J--starving the people who don't want to work will not force them to work...they'll be in your neighborhood stealing what they can. You cannot force these people to work by removing their food. They will find a way without working. If we don't feed them, they will feed on us. I think I smell a good script...hm...

790 so true. The majority of these ppl are mentally incapable of holding down a job due to serious mental issues. What do other countries with socialized medicine do for the mentally ill homeless?

A lot of the homeless need to be cared for in hospitals because they're mental, but those services were taken out of federal budgets during Reagans term.
A lot of the homeless nowadays are there because of the depression.

@INK

You said it man.

@gottarhyme

You can't force people to WANT to work through policy. A lot of these homeless people you see in these shelters are not incapable of working, a lot of them are UNWILLING to work, there's a difference. I said a lot, not all BTW before you get on my butt about that statement, lol. Most of these homeless shelters have an employment office where there's a city paid employee sitting there with a book full of employers willing to hire uneducated help for low paying positions or temperary workers. So the opportunity to work for their own money is there, but I remember seeing a special where they interviewed some of these individuals working there and they say they VERY RARELY get anyone who even bother walking in there. They simply go straight for the free food, then straight out the door.

Why bother breaking a sweat and working when you can survive without doing so? That's the problem here, you see people living in Section 8 (government helped low or no income living) housing that's living better than people like me who have to work 60 hours a week. It's not that we don't give enough to the unemployed and homeless, it's that we give too much, they have no real incentive to work. If they're really starving, they'll do what they need to do to survive, and if that means working to fill their bellies, they will, but right now, they don't have a need to. So why bother?

When welfare pays better than a minimum wage job, what's to motivate someone to get off welfare and actually work? And the more babies they bring into their poverty, the more money they get, then when those babies grow up, they get on welfare and they have more babies to get more welfare, and it goes on and on and on...

"Especially in this recession borne of capitalist greed."

This recession was born out of a congress unwilling to check and balance their precious Fanny Mae and Freddie mac. The government "forced" private business (banks) to make loans to individuals for homes which they had no business getting the loans for in the first place.

Please, before you start ranting about our country and how bad our capitalist-based economy is please read up via informed credible sources.

And please give examples of American poverty. The poor in this nation mostly have a TV and a cell phone. No one is in the US is in abject poverty. Abject poverty implies no hope for change. In America there is always a chance to rise up out of poverty. Unlike 75% (rough guess) of the world.

In any case,capitalism is not the be all and end all. A visit to any homeless shelter is evidence of that!

Abject poverty in an affluent America is not the best advertisement for capitalism. How people have managed to confuse money with freedom is beyond me...

There is nothing wrong with having money,or wanting it. However,there is also nothing wrong with giving some of the less fortunate a bit of help. Especially in this recession borne of capitalist greed.

Yeah INK, Big Media is a true enemy of the truth and freedom. Keep this in mind if you watch the local tv news.
You can see why FOX and the other News giants want to control the Truth, I mean the Internet.

In a related story, YouTube in they're crusade against copyright protection has suspended the C-Span Junkie user channel. Effectively eliminating over 6400 Ron Paul vids among others.

Strange that they would target that channel as C-Span falls under public domain and is exempt from copyright control.

THank you for being brief and i see your point. I hadn't seen that bill, which is surprising since I try to keep up on such things.

BTW It isn't that I disagreed with your statement “I do have a problem with big media trying to cover up truth and restrict free speech online.” I just didn't get the context ... until now.

Well played and thanks for keeping it simple. :)

Lucky for me its super slow at work today, I've been blogging all morning Lol,,,
^
@INK,  I'll be brief...   ;-)

Murdoch's publicity stunt (Wolverine workprint leak) caused several members of government to express the need to better protect online copyright material. (This also exposed the control big media has over elected officials), "big surprise there"
Congress is currently engaged in drafting up a bill that would restrict ALL copy written material online.
This means that SR would have to put up copyright blocks on everything. Pictures of Iron Man the Batman logo etc.
This is all an attempt to control the internet and radically change the nature of the Web.
     :-)
Sorry I don't have the names of the elected officials in question with me but I can produce them later if I need to prove my point.

Personal attack aside ... please give examples of Murdoch engaging in the following and explain the relevance to wanting to charge for content created by his companies:
"I do have a problem with big media trying to cover up truth and restrict free speech online."

ANd if I am too dumb to understand your point, please simplify them for me so that I <b>can</b> understand them.

@INK, you've missed my point as usual.

I have nothing against capitalism, I do have a problem with big media trying to cover up truth and restrict free speech online.
And that is Big Tv Media and FOX/Murdoch's endgame!

Ironic these are the choices when I spell check "Murdoch's"
Murders
Murderous
Murderers
Murdered
I've always found it interesting how some peoples names relate to they're occupation. ;-)

Yes ... how dare he expect payment for a service!
Death to capitalism!!!!!!!!!!!
Give me a break.

Do I want to pay for news? Of course not.
However, it is his business. He'll either succeed in this attempt or fail, but it's his choice.

@Luke & Leigh's
The Avengers trailer looks great! I hope they keep that quality of animation in the episodes.

'Quality journalism is not cheap'...

He's pushing for restrictions and more control of the Web. We all need to keep an eye on this demented fossil of a lifeform.

If I want quality journalism, I don't turn to FOX! What a crock !!!

FOX/Murdoch a firm enemy of online free speech

You are absolutely correct!Rubert Murdoch wants us to pay for every bit of content we view on the internet.He is going to begin charging for all his online content from all of his news organizations soon.If Rubert/Fox didn't leak the Wolverine work-print early online,they are surely taking advantage of it now,and we will all be paying for it soon.

@Matt, just pointing out the facts. When the print was leaked FOX screamed Piracy and called the FBI to investigate. Then when the story came out that Murdoch was possibly responsible the story faded away.
I always said that it looked like an inside job, and it appears that it was.
The two other suspects of insider piracy concerning Star Wars and Hulk were quickly found and dealt with yet the FBI has yet to bring forth any suspects in the Wolverine workprint leak.

The Wolverine workprint leak has set into motion the wheels of congress to enact new laws dealing with online copyrighted content.
All this it seems was perpetrated by FOX/Murdoch a firm enemy of online free speech.

Just my opinion

"To this day we still haven’t found out who leaked the Wolverine work print."

Does anybody even care who leaked the film anymore?

Great idea - not sure how I would do that easily though.

I love Craig Ferguson! He is by far the best late night host. Funny as hell. Poor Letterman is old, his jokes are stale (not as bad as Leno), I liked Conan at first, but lately he just looks like he's faking it more and more. He made the beautiful Gerard Butler look bad! I was pulling for Fallon, too, but he's become a bit too frat boy.
