  1. I just saw the Kick-Ass footage from SDCC, and it’s crazy good. I really hope a major studio has the guts to distribute this movie. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if the MPAA rates this movie with an X for the violence and language, all administered by teenage characters. Cheers to Matthew Vaughn for making this movie with his own money. The guy has got guts.

  2. Are we opposed to cartoons here?
Becasue recently ive been watching the recent spectacular spiderman cartoon and let me just say it is brilliant. Same goes for “Wolverine and the X-men”, despite the fact I dont like that it foucuses so heavily on Wolvie, it is still an awesome show

  3. @Shamose

I’m with you. Spectacular Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men are great, perhaps unappreciated shows. Really love Spectacular Spidey especially.

  4. Does anybody know When Iron Man or indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal skull make their premieres on cable?
I thought Showtime acquired the rights to both films as part of a big deal with Paramount.
    Have they already premiered?

  5. As I watched the premiere of ABC’s Defying Gravity last Sunday I keep thinking of Fox’s Virtuality by the end of the show I thought Virtuality is circling down the drain of never never land and this is going forward? Its not that I think that Virtuality was great TV, but it did have promise and tried hard to avoid spoon fed formula TV. Defying Gravity is Grey’s Anatomy in space; it even has the cheesy narration. The power ballad during the go for Venus segment was especially painful, sort of Michael Bay light. Plenty of jump cuts, a few lens flares, Christmas tree lights reflecting in the helmet visor. I almost offered up my popcorn it was so bad.

With all my complaining I will continue to watch the show.

“Hi my name is Docktorwu and I am science fiction addict.”

Still I cannot help but wonder what might have been had Virtuality been given the green light. So now I will shut up and make due with this, I hope there are at least a dozen episodes that should give the show time to improve. With a little time they might even decide to can the sophomoric narration.

  6. Docktorwu,
    Dont feel too bad .
Defying Gravity came in next to last place in the ratings.
It only drew 3.8 million viwers

  7. hey the trailer for the film the lovely bones in online …directed by the glorious master peter jackson

  8. @stuntmanJ: It’s excellent, I agree, especially the final clip with the little girl (her name escapes me) and the Nic Cage stuff.

@rom: I saw the trailer earlier, looks pretty stunning, but as usual by todays standards it gives far too much of the story away.

  9. Wondering what you guys think of the tv show Burn Notice? Since
we were talking about spies in the bourne thread I started thinking about burn. You guys watch it? Like it?

  10. The Critic,
    I like Burn Notice.
I dont watch it every week but I enjoy it when I do.
    Good show.

  11. I only watch Family Guy or nothing else.

  12. Speaking of Marvel animation, it had been up on youtube, then was taken down, but now someone has put it back up. The picture is a bit grainy, but good enough to see whats happening.

The Avengers trailer for the animated series in 2011:

    Insert drool…

  13. Not sure how many late-night tv fans there are on this site, but I absolutely think Craig Ferguson is hands-down the best late night host on the air. I think NBC should have offered the Tonight Show to him, because Conan is AWFUL. That being said, I think CBS has the best 1-2 punch at night with Dave and Craig. My GF and I DVR his show every night and I laugh every single time I watch it. If you’ve never watched him, you should check his show out. The puppets are great. :D

  14. “Fergie” has always been great. Remember when Kilborn stepped down, there were so many “guest hosts”, which were actually live tryouts and auditions. However, have to disagree. Conan is briliant….but the poor SNL Lad, Jimmy Fallen, is awful. I was really pulling for him. And to Gary….make that 3.8 million and 1 viewers for Gravity.

  15. @Vic

hey just a thought. How about making the polls linkable as threads? Take the current for example. It would be cool to be able to talk about what we voted for and why.

  16. To this day we still haven’t found out who leaked the Wolverine work print.
This means Murdock is still the prime suspect… ;-)

  17. I love Craig Ferguson! He is by far the best late night host. Funny as hell. Poor Letterman is old, his jokes are stale (not as bad as Leno), I liked Conan at first, but lately he just looks like he’s faking it more and more. He made the beautiful Gerard Butler look bad! I was pulling for Fallon, too, but he’s become a bit too frat boy.

  18. @The Critic

Great idea – not sure how I would do that easily though.

    Vic

  19. “To this day we still haven’t found out who leaked the Wolverine work print.”

Does anybody even care who leaked the film anymore?

  20. @Matt, just pointing out the facts. When the print was leaked FOX screamed Piracy and called the FBI to investigate. Then when the story came out that Murdoch was possibly responsible the story faded away.
I always said that it looked like an inside job, and it appears that it was.
The two other suspects of insider piracy concerning Star Wars and Hulk were quickly found and dealt with yet the FBI has yet to bring forth any suspects in the Wolverine workprint leak.

The Wolverine workprint leak has set into motion the wheels of congress to enact new laws dealing with online copyrighted content.
All this it seems was perpetrated by FOX/Murdoch a firm enemy of online free speech.

    Just my opinion

  21. @790
FOX/Murdoch a firm enemy of online free speech

You are absolutely correct!Rubert Murdoch wants us to pay for every bit of content we view on the internet. He is going to begin charging for all his online content from all of his news organizations soon.If Rubert/Fox didn’t leak the Wolverine work-print early online, they are surely taking advantage of it now,and we will all be paying for it soon.

  22. Yeah Cleantalkingchimp, Murdock, is an evil bastard. In a statement this morning Ruppert said this,,,
    ^
    ‘Quality journalism is not cheap’…
    ^
He’s pushing for restrictions and more control of the Web. We all need to keep an eye on this demented fossil of a lifeform.

If I want quality journalism, I don’t turn to FOX! What a crock !!!

  23. @790 & @cleantalkingchimp

Yes … how dare he expect payment for a service!
    Death to capitalism!!!!!!!!!!!
    Give me a break.

Do I want to pay for news? Of course not.
However, it is his business. He’ll either succeed in this attempt or fail, but it’s his choice.

    @Luke & Leigh’s
The Avengers trailer looks great! I hope they keep that quality of animation in the episodes.

  24. @INK, you’ve missed my point as usual.

I have nothing against capitalism, I do have a problem with big media trying to cover up truth and restrict free speech online.
And that is Big Tv Media and FOX/Murdoch’s endgame!

Ironic these are the choices when I spell check “Murdoch’s”
    Murders
    Murderous
    Murderers
    Murdered
I’ve always found it interesting how some peoples names relate to they’re occupation. ;-)

  25. @790

Personal attack aside … please give examples of Murdoch engaging in the following and explain the relevance to wanting to charge for content created by his companies:
“I do have a problem with big media trying to cover up truth and restrict free speech online.”

ANd if I am too dumb to understand your point, please simplify them for me so that I can understand them.

  26. Lucky for me its super slow at work today, I’ve been blogging all morning Lol,,,
    ^
    @INK, I’ll be brief… ;-)

Murdoch’s publicity stunt (Wolverine workprint leak) caused several members of government to express the need to better protect online copyright material. (This also exposed the control big media has over elected officials), “big surprise there”
Congress is currently engaged in drafting up a bill that would restrict ALL copy written material online.
This means that SR would have to put up copyright blocks on everything. Pictures of Iron Man the Batman logo etc.
This is all an attempt to control the internet and radically change the nature of the Web.
    :-)
Sorry I don’t have the names of the elected officials in question with me but I can produce them later if I need to prove my point.

  27. @790

THank you for being brief and i see your point. I hadn’t seen that bill, which is surprising since I try to keep up on such things.

BTW It isn’t that I disagreed with your statement “I do have a problem with big media trying to cover up truth and restrict free speech online.” I just didn’t get the context … until now.

Well played and thanks for keeping it simple. :)

  28. Yeah INK, Big Media is a true enemy of the truth and freedom. Keep this in mind if you watch the local tv news.
You can see why FOX and the other News giants want to control the Truth, I mean the Internet.

In a related story, YouTube in they’re crusade against copyright protection has suspended the C-Span Junkie user channel. Effectively eliminating over 6400 Ron Paul vids among others.

Strange that they would target that channel as C-Span falls under public domain and is exempt from copyright control.

  29. In any case, capitalism is not the be all and end all. A visit to any homeless shelter is evidence of that!

Abject poverty in an affluent America is not the best advertisement for capitalism. How people have managed to confuse money with freedom is beyond me…

There is nothing wrong with having money,or wanting it. However, there is also nothing wrong with giving some of the less fortunate a bit of help. Especially in this recession borne of capitalist greed.
