As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion August 22, 2014

  1. Morning Ranters, let’s rant

    • It is really cold in my office right now… I have goosebumps! :)

Oh and I am taking my mom this weekend to see Guardians! She is very excited to see it and I am excited to see it again!

      • I think you’re going again just to see the Hobbits trailer. Don’t you know its on-line?

      • I’m going back to see it again as well. It’s too good not to see on the big screen one more time. :)

    • ….TAX evasion

  2. Summers at an end and there were lots of great
and not so great films out this year,
    so how would you order all the films you saw;
    -
-Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
    -22 Jump Street
    -Guardians of The Galaxy
    -X-men: DOFP
    -Edge of Tomorrow
    -Ninja Turtles
    -Godzilla
-How To Train Your Dragon 2
    -The Purge: Anarchy
    -Transformers: Age of Extinction
    -Amazing Spiderman 2
-A Million ways to die in the West

    • 1)Edge of Tomorrow
      2)X-men: DOFP
      3)Spidey 2

To me, spidey 2 was pretty underrated movie and GoTG was overrated.
HtTYD2 was .. wow.. really? How much less time do you have to put in to make that movie? It’s like no thought at all went into that movie.
TF4 was .. exactly what I expected.. Just good enough..
      DId not see any others..

      • oh sorry.. did see Godzilla.. Really fought hard to stay awake..

      • I actually watched Spidey 2 last night again and I liked it very much more than the first time around. I think I was so hyped up when it came out in the theater I was disappointed a little bit. Now when I watched it for what it is I found it very enjoyable. Just my 2 cents.

        • Both amazing spidey has too cartoonish of an action for me to care about..
However, spidey 2 had very interesting story.. AGreed, very enjoyable!

        • I just recently watched it and I thought it was enjoyable as well. Yes, it was disappointing to me because the movie could’ve gone deeper into the psychology of Max Dillon or Harry Osborn. When Harry said, “Everybody wants my money!” I felt sorry for him and I wanted to learn more about him. We had two characters who could’ve served as a great solo villain if the writers and director decided to focus on just one. Regardless, it was a decent and enjoyable film. Not the best, but certainly not as bad as people made it out to be.

    • @Cody
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
      Guardians of the Galaxy
      Captain America: The Winter Soldier
      The Raid: Berandal
      300: Xerxes
      Transformers Age of Extinction
      X-Men: Days of Future Past
      Godzilla
      The Lego Movie
      The Amazing Spiderman 2
      Noah

    • I’m likely forgetting a couple, but here goes:

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”
      “Edge of Tomorrow”
      “Godzilla”
“How to Train your Dragon 2″
      “X-Men: Days of Future Past”
      “The Lego Movie”
      “Noah”
      “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”
      “The Guardians of the Galaxy”

That’s only nine, but I cannot, at the moment recall any others I’ve seen this year (if/when I do, I can adjust the rankings accordingly).

Of course, “Interstellar”, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”, and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1″ have yet to release, and I am looking forward to all three…

    • I’d put a top-5 for films of 2014 thus far:

      1) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
      2) Robocop Reboot
      3) Maleficent
      4) X-Men: Days of Future Past
      5) Guardians of the Galaxy

Haven’t seen Lucy, Transcendence, TMNT or Sin City 2 yet, and I’m really looking forward to Interstellar, Hobbit 3 and Into the Woods. No idea where the list will be once I’m done with the rest.

I think people don’t give the Robo-Reboot a fair chance. It’s constantly being compared to the original (and admittedly, yes it isn’t as scathing about corporate America as the original was) but I found the movie to be properly politically charged for a superhero film in 2014. Much better than TASM2 or Dredd 3D. I think the lot of us are spoiled silly with superhero adaptations.

    • 1) Guardians of the Galaxy (5/5)
      2) Godzilla (5/5)
      3) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (4.5/5)
      4) Edge of Tomorrow (4.5/5)
      5) RoboCop (4/5)
      6) Transcendence (3.5/5)
      7) Need for Speed (3.5/5)
      8) Non-Stop (3.5/5)
      9) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2.5/5)
      10) A Million Way to Die in the West (2/5)

Of the other event movies I haven’t seen Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Days of Future Past, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles yet. I’ll save that for the home release.

  3. 24 hours of The Simpsons for 12 days!? I’m watching as many as I can!

  4. guys do you think sentry fit in the mcu?
i hate what bendis did to the character.

    • As a hero or a villain?

I kinda like Bendis’ writing of him. I think if there’s a series of ‘B-team’ Avengers movies, The Sentry could make for an exciting antagonist.

      Have you ever read Siege?

      • However much Sentry screen time is required, to get him and Ares going toe to toe. If I get to see Sentry rip Ares in half on screen, I’ll die a happy fella.

        • Haha that’s exactly what I was picturing when Luke asked the question.

I remember reading that and couldn’t believe it! He literally just ripped Ares in half like paper.

  5. Id like to have a chat about TF5, if you guys dont mind. Im just curious you YOU think Lockdown return? He made a really good introduction in AoE, right? Think they might have something in their sleeve to bring him back? Or is it Galvatron in TF5 (only) to appear??

    Thanks :)

  6. I saw a few movies but a lot in that list above I didn’t see.

I think Guardians for me has been the movie of the summer.

I saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 and I liked it but not as much as the first.

  7. Anyone else think it would be cool if the opening shot of BvS would be Batman in the batcave looking at Zods message on the big screen. That would be very good to introduce the whole idea of batman not being ok with Superman. Thoughts?

    • I think it could be a good way to open the movie. Batman sees the message and judges Superman on not dealing with Zod better.

      • it’s probably a little cliche but I’d like a news montage, starting with the message and it being analysed, also including a panel of reporters talking about superman, daily planet headlines, people speaking on losing their homes etc. all while the credits roll and then maybe bruce reading the daily planet with a headline about superman???? idk I like your idea too

        • I’d like to see Bruce Wayne watching the live news feed of Superman fighting Zod. Then Alfred asks, “Is it time to suit up again,” to which Wayne responds, “No. They’re too powerful. I can’t beat them. Not yet anyway.” That would go a ways to showing that Bruce understands what he’s up against while still confident that he come up with a way to fight them.

  8. I think it could be a good way to open the movie. Batman sees the message and judges Superman on not dealing with Zod better.

  9. I’m so lost on the new Sin City. It’s a sequel but yet Marv is alive, Josh Brolin is going to turn into Clive Owen, but Bruce Willis is already dead???

In the famous words of Super Grover… “Hubba Whaa?”

    • It’s a combination of several Sin City stories, taking place before, during (?), and after the events of the first film…I think.

      • Ok, I guess that works.

Well like SR review says it just came to late, and unless it gets huge word of mouth, I’ll be redboxing it.

        • As Arc said, it’s a before-during-after movie. I remember Clive’s character talking about having surgery done, or someone else mentioning the fact.

  10. Did you guys change the background of your website? I either never noticed it or the right side of the screen is different.

    • We changed the right side nav a bit, yes.

  11. Please, review the Series Finale of True Blood when it comes.

  12. If Batman did not have his vast wealth and came from a working-class family, what would his day job be? He would no longer have the need to pretend to be a billionaire playboy, so what would he do? Become a police officer at the GCPD? A psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum? A counselor under his friend, D.A. Harvey Dent? Get a job teaching martial arts to karate kids? Would he simply be a criminal, embroiled in the Mob, or work as a car-mechanic in a garage operated by Al Pennyworth? He would probably still have his degree in Criminalogy, and I hear that that sort of a degree can get you a job as a criminal profiler. Would he be working for Hugo Strange?
