I am shocked and saddened to hear that Fox is wanting to prevent the release of Watchmen next Spring.

I truly do hope that if they do this that a boycott can be successfully maneuvered.

so, for this month we still have Death Race and Babylon A.D.

For Death Race, I’ve already seen the entire film from the preview so I don’t need to see that. And for Babylon, there’s been very little last minute marketing for it, so I’m not sold on that yet.

Anyone going to check these flicks out? I’ll probably end up seeing both when I’m done my work this month.

LOL, close to 10 years. :-)

@Rob
I’m out of town and missed the Death Race pre-screening. I’m hearing both that and Babylon are pretty mediocre.

I have missed the screenings also for both films as my girls are lazy and never got the invites out to me :-)

I agree with Vic in what I have heard, both are rental material if not pass material.

With WB/DC supposedly releasing their “comicbook” slate in the next month or so, and Marvel already doing this, what heroes do you want to see on screen that haven’t been touched upon?

I for one would like to see Booster Gold, I think there is a lot of potential with the character.

On another note, I am/was a huge horror buff, the new direction horror has taken this decade…not a big fan, ie Saw and Hostel. I prefer the classics; Halloween, Friday The 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street. Now they are remaking these films, which has me even more aggrevated (especially Nightmare on Elm Street, Jamie will get it). After what I saw of Rob Zombie’s Halloween, I am afraid for this new wave of remakes.

You know Disney is sitting on a property, The Sigilverse. I’m surprised no one has thought to capitalize on it and produce a “Mark Of Charon” title.

Just a small irritant for me with regard to the site;

Any time I read comments and hit my “back” button to continue with the main topics, I’ll automatically jump to the top of the page after about 2 - 3 seconds. Not sure if it’s just me or not, but if I’m near the bottom of the page - it’s a bit annoying.

Otherwise, I’m surprised no one is commenting on the Olymics! Isn’t anyone watching it?

It only seems to happen in IE - I just tried it in Firefox and it doesn’t happen in that browser. Don’t know why…

So why isn’t Hugh Jackman standing up for his director in Wolverine. Doesn’t he have something invested in this movie? Wolverine should be a dark movie. Perhaps the studio should have the fanboys and fangirls send them letters of protest?

J A Reyes, the only thing the studios understand is money.
They don’t care if they get your money or some 5 year olds parents money.

Teri O, without sounding too hatefull, I never (watch) support the Olympics, having it in china dosnt help ether. I find it disgusting that so many ppl support the games. Its become a political distraction from what’s really going on in the world.

790,

If Wolverine isn’t true to its comic book or graphic novel material, the fan boy universe is going to beat it up besides the movie bloggers out there. Did this producer go to Comic Con? I’m sure the fans there would have given him an earful of what they expect from this movie. If the economic situation keeps getting tighter people may become a little more careful about the movies they may go see. That would hurt movie theatres and movie studios.

J A Reyes, I’m betting if the Director feels he can’t handle it, yes he will call on Hugh to take a stand,,, we will have to wait and see who’s side Jackman is on ??? So far nothing,,,
I have a feeling this story is more hype than fact ///

i think the movies gonna be a flop if they hit the spot, fox isn’t gonna luck out like they did with x-3 fans are gonna be skeptical. plus 790 the studio might not care but without a fanbase the movie doesn’t have an audience. Like star wars episode 4 when it first came out the fanboys were what kept the money rolling in not the general public

Vic; thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately at work I’m stuck using IE.

790: No offense taken - but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing to forget about politics for two weeks. I’m enthralled by the games. Especially the swimming and gymnastics. I also thought the opening ceremonies were breathtaking!

Gary, marvel made comics for star wars so at comic-con it gained a fan base, i talking about the hype the movie gets is from the fanbase, and 790 iwas saying the money they made from x-3 they made even though it wasn’t that good of a movie but it was a sequel to a good movie. Wolverine is a sequel to a movie that kinda sucked.

Gary when michael wrote that I thought he was talking about the Science Fiction fan base. My brother for example, has never watched a comic book movie and doesn’t care for science fiction either.

I actually caught the previews of the movie in a theater before its first release, which was how I was first exposed to it.

I’m seriously pissed off Old Man!
:-(
The lack of faith by WB, on the last Superman film is frustrating enough, I thought the film had some weak aspects but nothing the sequel couldn’t write around…
Now (if this is true) WB wants to reboot again ,,, no way will I sit thru another Superman Origin story ! NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No more reboots !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t support this crap !!!!

Superman ends with me, if they reboot. I will resist and boycott the film !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jamie is our resident Superman movie expert and he’ll be posting something this weekend. It WILL be a reboot but the “make it dark” thing is most likely just B.S.

What if in the first 15 minutes of a reboot they overlay a fight between Superman and a very powerful villain some of the Donner Origin, as going through Superman’s mind. Superman wins the fight the scene ends, we end up at the fortress of solitude, and start the real story. Would that be painless enough?? :)

Ah, no Old Man sorry that wouldn’t cut it for me.

Its hard to believe that WB wants to make it darker based on the success of TDK.
Such simple thinking, its amazing they pull anything off.

I can understand that. I wonder how they would handle the property given whats happened. Would they drop the son, send him off somewhere? What about de-powering him like in “Superman II?” He would lead a normal life as part of the White family??

Gravatar

That’s easy Old Man, they (the writers) simply ignore the kid and make the film a total action story that takes place so fast that you don’t have time to think about the kid.

Caught “Chronicles of Riddick” on cable while flipping through the channels yesterday. The first time I saw this I was underwhelmed, guess I should have invested in the video game or the directors cut. However, what little of it I watched the other day made me wonder. Could a sequel do better? What does everybody think?

Just finished re-watching the anime “Dark Fury” for those who never bothered, it bridges and sets up the first “Chronicles of Riddick story.” It’s too short a story, but I guess it gets the job done. Their’s some extras, interviews with Vin Diesel and the animators. Worth a few bucks if you see it in some clearance pile.

I actually loved Chronicles of Riddick as well, if it didn’t have that girl tempting the dude to backstab the emperor it would of been a perfect film for me.

Colm Feore FTW.

Michael, about the X-3 thing, Fox will market Wolverine so badly that it will force its own ticket sales up. Anyone remember Ghostrider? I had never seen so many commericials in 2 weeks in my life…then it all stop after its first 2 weekends, because by then it had made its money and everyone knew how bad it was, lol.

It barely made more than it’s cost back is all 790. I thought the story was pretty good. Working in the run on crematoria was a turn on a theme that I liked. I hope he’s able to keep that going.
Where they go in the next movie is the question. Does Riddick explore the depths of what makes the movement tick he is now the leader of or does he walk away? It kind of reminds me of the end of the first “Conan” film. Great potential, however it’s so easy to ruin. The franchise can’t afford to slip into a “second act syndrome.” It must build momentum and use the writing techniques that break the syndrome. I thought of Rockne because of his “Farscape” experience. Can you imagine the steam these two working together could create? What do you think? Does a new age intergalactic Rome need a further fleshing out or should it collapse under its own weight, left behind by the main character to pursue an independent goal?
