As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.

  1. I’d like to say yay to a couple of things on TV….

It’s great that Fringe is still going strong but I’m waiting for Fox to move it to Friday nights because it seems like that’s what they do…

I’d like to say it’s great the Eureka is coming back, but cripes, WHEN is it gonna get here…

Also props to Castle. I’m liking this show more and more. The writing byplay between the two main characters is crisp. The problem solving for the crimes/plots isn’t too awful and it’s nice to see a teenage daughter portayed as something other than a teen shopping drone or a hyper sexed drama queen.

Just finished watching Caprica. GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY!!!! Will there be some talk about this. The very first cylon centurion is a girl. I never saw that one coming. LOL! From the terrorist bombing by a kid to the main characters smoking(Haven’t seen that in a while) you can already tell it will push the limits like BSG did.

  3. So cookie, why don’t you tell us how it ends?

  4. Does anyone else think that Heroes has really turned around? I loved this weeks episode and what thtey are doing with sylar. I cant wait for the finale!

  5. ken x, yeah Heroes has definitely gotten back on tract, the last 5 episodes have been great television.

but the little things still bug me, like why didnt micah know they were coming for him? he knows when everyone else is in trouble. and how easily everyone is forgiven, like Nathan tried to have his brother locked up for life and it takes 1 convo for them to make up?

  6. well i think thats been a pretty big thing with peter, his big weakness is needing to feel loved by his family, and therefore he always just lets it go. your right, micah should have seen them coming way before they cut the power. but i mean, some things go unexplained, like denko coulda have set that up with everything off line, no radios, no computers or anything so that he couldnt know. the lil things sometimes just dont need to be explained.

  7. I know it’s only vaguely connected with films, but R.I.P. J.G. Ballard, author of Empire Of The Sun and Crash, who died a couple of days ago at the age of 78 after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Usually stuck with the science fiction tag, his novels are more concerned with exploring inner than outer space; the psychological effects of technology, mass advertising, urban decay, the collapse of civilisation etc. An unsettling, detached, dreamlike quality suffused everything he ever wrote. Check out The Crystal World and The Unlimited Dream Company. Unique stuff.

  8. With Heroes, it was always the little things that bugged me the most. The characters have these amazing powers, but sometimes the way they use them makes no sense. The show was constantly contradicting itself. I haven’t watched in a while for this reason alone.

  9. I’m sticking with Heroes, but haven’t really found myself to be itching to watch each episode when I comes up on Hulu. In fact, I still haven’t watched Monday night’s episode. The show just seems to be treading water too much for how powerful these people are.

As The Dude was mentioning, they’re stupid with their powers and the “broken powers” characters are getting old. I want the writers to even things up. Let’s face it, Sylar could walk through everybody without anything really capable of stopping him. I want Peter to regain his full abilities. Balance will return and some seriously cool stuff can start happening again.

  10. piratedan,
did you watch Fringe last night?
In the closing moment we heard leonard Nimoy as the voice of William Bell.
I thought it was a cool litle surprise.
A little teaser for the fans before his appearance in the season finale .
I love the show and I wont stop worrying Until Fox officially renews it .

  11. @Cookie
Yeah thanks a lot. I’ll be sure to run out and rent Caprica now that I know key details. Good grief. A little **SPOILER ALERT** goes a long way!

Castle: Yeah I LOVE that show. The laugh out loud moments are what really make it for me :)

Heroes: The past few episodes have been so good that I believe I might be able to forgive the bad. But honestly, I watched Castle before Heroes from my DVR list.

Fringe: Of course it will get renewed. And yeah, I already knew Nimoy was going to be playing Bell. On a side note, J.J. Abrams is a guest editor for this issue of Wired. Makes some good points about spoilers and our society’s need for instant gratification.

  12. um, did you not see where he said in his comment “spoilers below”?

  13. @Matt K
I can assure you the SR team added those after.

  14. oh…well then nevermind then,lol.

does anyone in hear watch BLEACH and did anyone see last night’s episode.

  15. ken x

i was just using those as examples, but it just always seems like every episode there is some little thing that bugs me, like the writers are not vetting the story enough before it’s filmed. i expect great shows to have no holes and heroes always seems to have holes. Like that Irish girl Peter supposedly loved, yeah she was left in the future, so because that future never took place she doesn’t exist? couldn’t she be around now, the time when that event was supposed to have happened has come and gone, wouldn’t she be around now, don’t you think Peter would care just a little more?

I don’t need everything explained in black and white, I really enjoy Lost, but this is different, these aren’t mysteries written into the story, these are holes that the writers are hoping we look past.

  16. my 2 cents

    VARIETY:

Blasting onto the screen at warp speed and remaining there for two hours, the new and improved “Star Trek” will transport fans to sci-fi nirvana. Faithful enough to the spirit and key particulars of Gene Roddenberry’s original conception to keep its torchbearers happy but, more crucially, exciting on its own terms in a way that makes familiarity with the franchise irrelevant, J.J. Abrams’ smart and breathless space adventure feels like a summer blockbuster that just couldn’t stay in the box another month. Paramount won’t need any economic stimulus package with all the money it’ll rake in with this one globally, and a follow-up won’t arrive soon enough.

    Screen Daily

JJ Abrams injects a gigantic dose of energy into this long-running franchise to bring it roaring back to life with an immensely satisfying Star Trek prequel. Going boldly where many have been before, the talented film and TV-maker hardly puts a foot wrong in his quest for renewal, creating a new mythology complete with pin-up stars, invigorating humour and juicy on-board melodrama. Destined to be the summer’s first and one of its biggest global hits, Star Trek essentially paves the way for a brand new series of films and will keep Paramount in summer tentpoles for years to come.

  17. Was just pondering this one day. Has a movie ever hit #1 weekend box office, then slip down, and come back up to #1 again on another weekend?

  18. @Matt K

Yeah, I added the spoiler warning after the fact.

BTW folks, a new and final Wolverine trailer is up – check the home page.

    Vic

  19. I keep reading nothing but praise for Trek. I hope the praise is warrented. May 8th can’t come soon enough for me.

    @Manowar
I think I have seen that happen before, but I can’t remember the movie that did it.

  20. @Vic
No more Wolvie trailers for me, I’m sold; and thanks for putting the spoiler warning on that post.

  21. @ MattK

Yah, they added that spoiler warning afterward, before he just blurted it out. I think he thinks it’s funny to spoil things for everyone. But now that they edited it without saying it, it makes my sarcastic reply after his look kind of out of place, lol.

  22. This is out of the blue, but what the devil happened to Super Max? A lot of movies seem to just be, fading into nothingness as of late. No news on the Halo movie, etc. I’m sure this is because there is no news, but I seriously doubt that no one is talking about these things.

  23. Wow. How good has “24″ been this season? I’m on the edge of the couch the whole hour! The twist at the end of last week and what happened this week are VINTAGE “24″. I can’t wait until next week’s episode!!!

  24. @ Matt K

I’ve seen the most up-to-date episode of Bleach, 216. What about it?

  25. I wanted to apologize to everyone for the spoilers. I really did say to much to soon and I will be more careful in the future. It just freaked me out about the centurion thing.
Heroes has improved the one writer returned(I can’t remember his name). Plus does anyone on this site watch Chuck? In my opinion it has better writing than Heroes. Hope they don’t move it to Friday nights!

  26. ash ali,

i dont know, i was just trying to make a conversation lol, i was mostly just wondering what people thought about it, personally i was a little annoyed by the “fruity” arrancar and cant wait for the Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra fight.

  27. Does anyone watch Doctor Who on this site?

Also, what do you think is the likelihood of Dollhouse being cancelled? I’m a big Joss Whedon fan, he’s one of the best writers for TV in America. I say that because I watch mostly British TV.

  28. claire,

i watch “doctor who” every now and then

  29. JMONEY, theres an example of something i want to know WTF happened. Haha. Your right there are bigger things that arent explained such as that. I was just sayin that i kinda just let go the little things, i mean its a fantasy world that we have no experience in. But with the bigger things, like the irish chick, yea they def drop the ball once in a while. And i think during that time period it happened alot more.

Psyko, i agree. The broken heroes thing is getting old, however, with Hiro, i think works because he isnt just bouncing through time making everything confusing. They found an escape hatch to get away from the confusion with that one. I do want to see peter get back to his roots. Sylar needs his “equal and opposite”. Im hoping we see it head towards this next week.
