Open Discussion – April 15, 2009

It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for our weekly discussion post, where you determine the topics. Of course it’s dreaded Tax Day in the U.S. so I don’t know how talkative folks will be today. :-)

As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.

  1. I Wonder if anybody knows about the late Great Richard Pryor movie… Mike epps supposedly got the go from the man himself before he died…

  2. I did my taxes a while back, and got my money already since I had it direct deposit through e-file. Not looking forward to this next tax day though, after we have to pay for all of the stuff our government is wasting our money on now…

  3. UGH, thank god you wrote about taxes! I did my feds a while ago cus they paid me, but i gotta pay the state so i waited. oops!

so I finally saw the new fast and furious, i really liked it. Much better than the last two!

  4. @ Vic
Are ya’ll still sending update emails at times? I haven’t received one for at least two weeks it seems. Although I don’t really need them anyway because I check out your site a couple times a day. But I was curious if my mail is working correctly. I’m using my Cox cable address with ya’ll too just so ya’ know.

  5. best cancelled show ever…Firefly…
best show ever that’s almost cancelled, TSCC

    sadness…

  6. I can’t wait for Transformers 2 to come out already. I’m so sick of my “Transformer junkie” (they’re not, they’re just old enough to remember them as a kid and they know I’m not) telling me how awesome it’s going to be and how much they’re into them. It’s annoying and it’s making me think a movie I once eagerly awaited is going to suck. Please, make it stop.

Anybody else have any movies they want to come out just to get them over with?

  7. Oops, should read, “‘Transformer junkie’ friend.”

  8. tax? is that movie related?

Yes, Tscc is good fun, will there be a third season? – I’m not gonna spoil, but in the end of episode 22 it got pretty exciting. and Yes, I think Brian austin green might be a good lantern…

  9. lets talk about the sarah connor chronicles. you didn’t review the final episode, and i would like to see your thoughts.

im extremely angry right now, because rumors are flying ( http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/04/scoop-fox-set-t.html ) and its looking like its not coming back

  10. I am so sick and tired of getting hooked on shows that get yanked too soon. Firefly is one that still burns – that was a great show. TSCC is another one that I really look forward to.

Take ‘Life on Mars’ for example – as soon as I saw the title, I figured “why bother, this is going nowhere”. I refused to watch the first few episodes, but following ‘Lost’, I started watching and really got into the show – just before they canceled it. (BTW – one of the worst ‘wrap-up’ episodes EVER).

  11. Maybe because I haven’t seen season 2 yet, but I didn’t really find Terminator SCC really interesting.

  12. If black cat ever makes it into a spider-man movie (at least soon) I’d like to see this actress in the role. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0763643/

  13. The last 2 min of TSCC was pretty ambitious.

FOX hasn’t officially canceled it but its not looking good.

  14. @Mandarr

Check your spam folder – emails have been going out daily.

  15. eddie,

ive never seen the tv show, but i did love the film serenity

  16. It’s not surprising if TSCC gets the axe. Yes I think the last 3 or 4 episodes were good, but that long middle stretch was just terrible. Those story lines should have been condensed to half the length they were.. I am hoping FOX keeps the show and tells the producer here is your last chance, (A 10 episode deal).

  17. What’s everyone’s take on the news that there is going to be a X Men prequel?

  18. @JMoney

They should do more origin Films first.

  19. i really dont have any thoughts on it b/c x3 pretty much killed my excitement for any xmen film

  20. SIN187UM

I guess it kinda is an origin films, it supposedly going to show how the original x men members came to th school, cyclops, jean, beast, and the prof

  21. @JMoney

I understand that, but I’d like to see more separate Origin films before an united X-men origin film if that makes any sense, this would give more substances to the characters I think, kind of like they are doing to prepare for the Avengers movie. Is the name of what they are proposing called X-men First Class? Hopefully they battle The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

  22. I’m really bummed about TSCC. Yes, there were a couple of boring stretches, but when it was good, man was it good!

I don’t know why I keep watching these shows on Fox. I must be some kind of idiot. Dark Angel, Firefly, New Amsterdam, TSSC, Dollhouse… Fox always cancels them exactly when they start getting really good. It’s no wonder each show got worse ratings than the one before. Argh.

  23. The last few episodes of TSCC was only exciting because they kept killing people off left and right. They can’t keep that up or everyone will be dead, so it was really only good for their shock value. Not to mention, the way the season ended, can it really be called Sarah Connor Chronicles? Wouldn’t it become John Connor Chronicles?? Unless they plan on going back and forth…

  24. I love reading your views and reviews on film, etc. I for one am dismayed at the fact Seth Rogen is writing and worse yet….starring in the Green Hornet. Something I like many have been so excited to finally come to pass…… As an adult, I find Rogen’s humor wanting and his acting to be…..well….he can’t act a lick. I am curious how you feel about this. Thanks!

  25. @ Vic
Okay, I got it figured out now thanks. Don’t know why my email stopped working, but I got all the emails ya’ll have been sending me now lol.

  26. I was wondering if you guys could help me in this:

I am a newbie when it comes to comic books (only read watchmen, and it was recently) and only know most of the characters from the movies and you guys talking.. So I kind of want to start reading some stuff and don’t know where to start.. I know there are a lot of options and this is a lot to ask, but if you could give some advice.

To make it a bit easier I will say this:
    X-Men > Iron-Man > Spider-Man > Superman > Hulk

And don’t exactly know many more well enough to have an opinion..

PS: Sorry about the fact that this isn’t exactly movie related.

    Thanks anyway

  27. the studio needs to recall every copy of the GODZILLA(98) and give people they’re money back, unfortunately i was stupid enough to buy that dvd

  28. You know, I went to rottentomatoes just now and I have officially lost faith in the rottentomatoes rating system. I never really relied on it heavily but thought that there was some rhyme or reason to it. Crank 2 got 81% on RT… T3 has mid 60′s, Fast and Furious got 21%. Now I’m not saying Fast and Furious deserves to be highly rated, heck, a 20-40% rating is probably justified, but for CRANK to be rated 4 times as high?? And for T3 to have anything over 40%?? Come on, there’s something wrong with the critics they use on RT to come up with those percentages or they are miscounting reviews.

I’ve read through the full reviews on their website and have found a lot of errors. Punisher Warzone is a good example. I found at least 15 reviews they listed and counted as “Rotten” where when you actually click the link to see the review, that reviewer actually gave it 3 out of 5 stars or more or concluded that they enjoyed it.

Terminator 2 had one “rotten” review on their list before, I read it, and it was actually a positive review. I’ve emailed them about it and they have since corrected it so now T2 has 100%, like it should be, lol.

But seriously, if Crank 2 can get 81%, then 100% really doesn’t mean squat anyhow, so oh well. RT sucks, I rate them as rotten. :-P

  29. @Ken J

FYI, Crank 2 was not pre-screened for critics, so there wasn’t a lot of time for reviews to make it there. You have to give it time to accumulate a fair number of reviews to get a real sense of the consensus. I just checked and it’s now at 69% all and 60% “cream of the crop.” That’s still surprising, but I think it’ll dip lower as more reviews come online – there are only 36 reviews for the film as of right now.
