Okay, I got something! With that last clip for Iron Man yesterday (and all the TV spots), I’ve heard people complaining that there is too much Iron Man media coming and its drowning out their excitement (since we’ve got about 3 weeks left).

Now, I am smart enough to control my influx, but do you think there is a point where we’ve reached TOO much Iron Man media/marketing? I know that’s tough to ask Vic, the self-proclaimed ultimate Iron Man father of all things Tony Stark, but it’s still a good topic of discussion.

Now, my belief is that there is NOT too much. This is feeling a lot like the Transformers media infusion (hmmm, Paramount?). Where weeks before it came out there were like 12 TV spots and 10 clips all of badass giant robot action. Similar thing here and I think they’re just trying to get as MANY people as possible going “that looks awesome” which will in turn secure a huge opening weekend. Thoughts??

Funny you should mention that, Alex - I was actually thinking of writing up a post specifically on this point! I’ve been considering maybe somewhat of and Iron Man moratorium on further images and clips.

Despite excitement about the movie, I’ve even been seeing the same feeling over at the Advanced Iron forum there have even been a few guys who’ve said they’re not watching any more new footage until the movie is out because it’s starting to feel like there won’t be any surprises left. Of course one of the guys who said that soon thereafter posted the recent Sci Fi Channel clip. :-)
That’s a great question for Screen Rant readers: I know you’re crazy excited about Iron Man, but should we tone down the coverage? Or at least stop showing new clips and images from the movie?

And now you can beat me to an article on this, Alex even though I thought about writing it last week. ;-)

Being new here I’ve already noticed the word Stark is needed to be typed in to clear comments. The Iron Man Love is obvious!

I would say this about the previews. When I went to see the first Men In Black movie, even though I really liked it and could tell what a well made movie it was, I didn’t love it. The reason being I had seen all the best bits already, by watching the clips and previews and everything else.

I do have a love for when I just come across a movie, knowing very little, and then can just take it in. I watched Kung Fu Hustle having been handed the dvd by my brother and told, this is your thing. It really was! Also Bubba Ho-Tep, even though I knew the basic outline, was all the better because every piece of it was new to me.

So personally I try to avoid too much knowledge beforehand. I do like to check things out, especially if unsure about a movie, but I do ration it.
However that is my choice and putting new bits up here is fine by me. Leaves us the option of looking, or not.

Oh, and well done on the rising comments. :)

The most amazing movie experience I ever had in my life, bar none, was walking into “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on opening day without knowing a single, damned thing about the movie.

So yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

Naw, keep up the coverage, please! If they don’t like it, don’t have to read it! haha!

But if you don’t like it, Vic, we may have a problem…. ;-)
I LOVE all this footage we’re getting from the movie. I don’t think they’d give away any BIG surprises in it. Honestly, if we take all the footage we’ve seen and put it together, it equals up to about 8 minutes of the movie. We’ve seen more of TDK lol.

My dilemma about the movie now is this: when do we get to hear the film’s runtime? We know Iron Man’s rating is PG-13, but how long is it?

Vic, do you think you’ll post your review of the film before May 2nd? I’d love to read it before I see the movie (spoiler free heheh).

21 more days…

You know Vic, I had the same experience of not knowing a damn thing about “The Crow” before I walked in and saw it, and I loved that movie. I was told it was “some superhero movie” and thought it was going to be incredibly lame, but I thought it was great.

Amen to the Raiders comment Vic, absolutely same thing happened to me (except I was only 6).

When the review appears on the site will depend on whether the studio allows me to post it early (usually not). I’ll post it as soon as I can, probably at midnight EST on May 2nd. :-)
I don’t know the exact running time by Jon Favreau told me that it would be right around two hours, give or take.

SCREEN RANT E-MAIL
Does anyone have this problem? I go through my mailbox and read all the ScreenRant comments. Then I’ll come back later, and there are unread comments sprinkled in my e-mail, from, say, two days ago, a day and a half ago, last night…they are older than the ones I read originally, and down in my e-mail bin as if I skipped reading them.

I have Yahoo mail and, though sometimes slow, it’s not THAT bad. And it’s usually in sequence.

Vic, I do like that the text of the comment is included. I joined Jammer’s Reviews and the notifications just point to the website.

Thanks, Vic. Hopefully the film is 2 hours, it must’ve been great to talk with Favs.

So hopefully, early morn on May second, I can read your review before I see the movie! YAY!

I had no idea there was so much technical stuff involved when it comes to posting a movie review…
makes me appreciate your hardwork a bit more. :-D

Jim,

One of the things I really want to do is another redesign of the site. This one will be far more complicated though as I plan on not only revamping the look of the site but totally changing the software that runs it as well.

Problems are three-fold:

1. Determine the look, features and overall design of the new site.

2. Moving over of all posts and comments so that nothing is lost. The comment portion will no doubt be very complicated because I want to go to a forum format.

3. The cost of doing items 1 & 2.

You know, I would’ve argued that the point of all this footage would be to keep getting more and more people interested, cause eventually there are the people who are only persuaded by seeing endless footage… BUT it seems like most of you, even hardcore Iron Man fans, are getting tired of it! And that’s why it’s such an interesting question regarding whether it could, in the slightest, hurt the movie at all… Though I think just most people have stopped watching anything new.

Vic - Did you hear that the world premiere for Iron Man is the 16th in Europe somewhere?! Damn the system!

And… so after Iron Man comes out, what are you going to write about and cover like there’s no tomorrow? :)

Haven’t had that problem myself, and I’m using yahoo too, but agree that being able to read comments in email is much better. Means you can flick through and know where you want/need to come back to.

Vic, I like the site’s look now….but then I liked the site’s old look too. Now I like this look better, but I’m anxious to see what you’ve got in mind for the new look. Is it radical?

Also, you’re doing a GREAT job with the site (same goes for your other writers too). Don’t let the haters getcha down, man! LOL.

You guys make a great point about knowing and not knowing too much about a movie. In some instances, what you’ve seen in the commercials are THE best parts, while at other times, there’s real substance around the previews.

To get back to shell-head coverage, Vic, it’s going to be covered somewhere, we might as well keep posting as things come up.. heck, if we add up all the trailers, if they come to 2 hours, then we don’t need to see the movie!! (How dare I even suggest that!!!)

Jim, that comments out of sequence thing may be a yahoo affect. I’ve got gmail and I get them all pretty quickly and effectively, and yes, I like seeing the comment in the email.. it’s an awesome feature.

Thanks for the kudos Kel.

As you mentioned when we chatted, there’s plenty more coming after Iron Man!

Vic I wouldn’t invest too much right now with updating the appearance and servers.
(IMO)
The web is going to radically change very soon and once things happen all the updates and changes will have to be done all over again…
I’m hearing rumors of a new http://www. that will change the way everything that has come before in terms of bandwidth size and speed.
This could go into effect next year…..

I don’t have a prob with too much Iron Man stuff. I think all us Screen Ranters are kinda close to the edge on this because we get all the up to the minute info.
John_lame out there hasn’t seen it yet so its good that there showing the trailers.
If anything I’m running low on comments concerning the film.
How many times can you type, wow, fricken awesome!!!

From what I can tell we havnt even scratched the surface of this film. From the latest tralier this film seems like its going to go by very quick. I’m talking a lot of stuff is going to occur.

Its funny I saw Raiders of the Lost Arc as well not knowing anything about it.
Back then it was a simpler time……………..:-)

Wanted to reccomend a couple of tv shows I’ve just discovered (kinda late) but anyway if your a fan of adult comedy. Its Allways Sunny in Philidelphia, is a halarious mix of Cheers meets Sienfeld.
And the VERY funny show “Human Giant” reminds me of Kids in the Hall, if KITH was on Cable. Both shows are VERY adult so no kids!!!

Also this weekend my film reccomendation is “Street Kings”. Keanu Reeves stars as a corrupt lapd officer. I’ve heard its very action packed.
