Another week has gone by already, so it’s time for another open discussion post. Whatever you’d like to discuss related to movies or TV.
And hey, Iron Man is just over a week away! I know there’s been less coverage of it on the site lately, but that doesn’t mean I’m any less excited about it.
So… the floor is yours…

‘Iron Man 3′ Begins Production; Secures Increased Budget

Anyone check out “Forbidden Kingdom”? I saw it last weekend and give it 3.5 out of 5. I thought the fight scenes were very good but they used too many wire stunts.
I agree that He-Man needs to be made. But it needs to be made on a grand scale, not a Dolph Lundgren comes to earth scale. How can you tell a He-Man story set mainly on earth? So disappointing that movie was.
Currently I am really excited to hear another on of my favorite kids cartoons, Thundercats is truly on the way. I had a friend ask me “what if they screw it up?”
I asked him “How could they screw it up? How is that even possible? If you watch the shows, they are lame. Sure, they were fun for us as kids, but just like He-Man, Gi Joe and Transformers it was a big buildup where the main characters took passing swipes at each other, nobody died, and nobody got hurt. Mumm-ra always ran back to his coffin in time and the Thundercats assumed all was well and he was defeated.”
I want to see Skeletor and He-man get into a fight that makes us gasp. I want Mumm-ra to draw blood. I want to see the sword of omens go off on Mumm-ra. I want to see Cheetara without her unitard……ok thats a little far.
I want action. I dont care about storyline. Thats why I loved Transformers. If you were mad that there was no plot, then you went to see the wrong movie. Its friggin chameleon robots from outer space, it doesnt get cornier than that. And even so, I thought the storyline was much more passable than anything ever dreamed up in the cartoons.
End of rant. For now
WILL SPIDER-MAN EVER RETURN TO TOTAL MARVEL CONTROL LIKE HULK?
I THINK THAT AN AVENGERS MOVIE WOULD BE A MASSIVE HIT BUT ONLY IF SPIDEY MAKES AN APPEARANCE TOO.
IF IRON-MAN’S MOVIE IS GOING A HUGE HIT,FIRING HIM UP THERE WITH MARVELS BIGGEST HULK AND SPIDEY, IT WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE THEM ALL APPEAR TOGETHER.
BIGGER THAN STAR WARS I’M TELLING YOU!!
Well said Kyle23!
Bruce, wouldn’t it make more sense if Racer X is a Cylon? That way Speed can be REALLY REALLY surprised at the big reveal.
Sorry Bruce, I don’t know what I was talking about….
Yeah your right. I have only seen a handfull of episodes of BSG.
:-/
Kyle23, I saw Transformers for fun and action. A plot would have been nice! But the action sequences failed. The fights were a blur of color and movement. This was most noticeable in the city battle, where I couldn’t tell one character from another, in the tangle of chrome.

Jimmy, EXACTLY! That was my problem with the action scenes as well.

Just bought my tickets for Iron Man. It’s opening on the 30th out here, and I’m going for a night screening with my girlfriend. Can’t wait for it!
“The Philadelphia Experiment” was a cool time-travel movie and it ended up influencing people like Al Bielek who claimed that the movie “awakened” memories of the real Philadelphia Experiment in them. Perhaps the remake can hinge on the claims of conspiracy theorists (and how it ties together with Montauk and Nikola Tesla and whatever) because that stuff is more entertaining than what’s in the movie.
Speak of time travel movies, perhaps there should also be a movie about John Titor, but it would feel too much like Terminator mixed with Back To The Future.
Did anyone watch “The Golden Compass”? I saw it on my flight back east from AZ and I have to say that it wasn’t bad. I actually enjoyed watching it. Pretty good story, some good SFX and the acting was decent. I’m actually hoping they make the sequel. I usually despise Nicole Kidman, but she was damn good in this film. She makes a good evil character, LOL….
Thanks for the info on Netflix, Vic. It’s good to hear positive feedback on them.
Jimmy the C: Hmm.. Racer X… yea, OK, maybe so.
790: Whew! For a second I thought I was having a senior moment having missed something..
But it’s ok, welcome to the shrinks couch on Screen Rant..
Jimmy the C, VIC: Yep.
The fight scenes were incredibly intricately designed CGI affects and if you slow them down to 1/2 to 1/3 speed, MAYBE you can follow them..
Too many moving parts on everyone to the point of confusion – I agree with that.. you had to wait until someone fell or was thrown across the street to figure out the point count in the match!!
Whoop, sorry – old hobby “kicking” in.
Ahh Jae Senn your so right on about the Philadelphia Expriment!!
And John Titor too.
You must listen to George Noory….. Al Beliks story was amazing.
I don’t know if you had time last night but the guest spoke about the Philadelphia Expriment causing a rip in spacetime and its never been closed up. He thoerised that its possible dimensional beings could be using it as a gateway.
I was hoping someone would bring this up.
Allthough I don’t think a lot of folks know who John Titor is.
Never touch Carpenter… his movies are fantastic – even the “lesser efforts”
Oh and Stephen – Welcome to the UK!
get used to the weather – it’s like this all the time.
Niall
Jimmy, I see what you are saying about the city fights. That was quite confusing. Bonecrusher and Optimus going atit on the highway blew me away though, I loved it
There was word of a Voltron movie, wasnt there? If done right, that could be another one I would love. However it would be tough for the director to seperate it from the blatant ripoff Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the eyes of the general public
The freaky thing about the Power Rangers, I watched them for a few years before they even became a U.S. television commodity. (I like the big monsters) IT was nice to finally understand the corny dialog once it was americanized.
I just found their releasing Iron Man on May 1 at 8 o clock.
Hey Kyyle23 I’m pretty sure that there going to do a “Robotech” film and I believe Toby Mcguire is going to star.
Oh wow, all those looking forward to the next Hellboy comin out in July. I didn’t notice this before, but Johann Krauss is being played by Mr. Family guy himself Seth Mcfarlane. Thoughts? I think it will work out perfectly.
Yeah Bruce, i just found out about Iron Mans 8pm premiere on the first too.
i wonder how the screenings will do?
Sounds like theyy want to pad the grosses a bit.
Well you guys should know how I feel about remakes in general… as a matter of fact I wrote a post about it awhile back specifying my Top 5 Rules for Movie Remakes.
Vic
790,
Yeah man, those stories on Coast-to-Coast are really interesting, much better than most science-fiction stories! There’s that story about the alien ghosts of Roswell.. about Montauk.. about Philadelphia Experiment.. Heck, there’s plenty of material from that program that can be used in a good science fiction film. If they were to make Al Bielek’s version of the Philadelphia Experiment, it won’t even be a remake, it’ll be an original story on its own!
Right on Jae Senn! So cool to meet someone who’s heard of that show.
There’s a ton of material for films.
If you recall “The Day After Tomarrow” was concieved by Art Bell the original host. (Not that I thought it was any good it was crap, but anyway).
Btw
I think Bieleks story was true.
Did you ever hear the second tale of Mel’s hole? (No joke). That one was amazing!
THANKS guys for the heads up! I ordered tickets a few hours ago.
Jimmy arnt you going to wait for Vic to review this film???
It might be a 4.5 star rating?
Lol
Vic are you going to any early screenings????
IRON MAN
REVIEW
Jimmy the C
“Riveting!”
(Whaaa Whaa Whaaaaaaaa)
Jimmy you should copyrite that before Richard Roeper rips you off.
Guarantee that phrase will be ripped off.
Even though there are no rivits.
We all heard it here first!!!
I’ll be seeing Iron Man on Tuesday night, but I can’t publish my review until the movie opens.
Vic
How will you contain yourself Vic.
(Going out on a limb)
I’m predicting the first 6 star rating.
LOL, yeah, I may be a bit less objective than normal. On the other hand I may end up being pretty critical… I have no doubt I’ll love it.
