Gary says:

saw` Ebert annd Roeper
Roeper and his guest critic Michael Phillips both liked the film. they wondered if younger kids would like it since it isnt all out action and it takes awhile for Iron Man to show up but they really liked it .they said RDJ was a good fit for tony stark and he had very good chemistry with Gwyneth Paltrow .
her best role in years , they said.
they also praised Bridges .
they said the ending was a bit of a letdown partly because the identity of the villain was obvious .
but they said it had the makings of a successful franchise.

790 says:

Sounds good Gary!

I can’t believe were only a few days away.

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

I guess this is the best place to post this. rottentomatoes.com has Iron Man reviewed. If you want to see what they said, keep reading:

Last chance….

Ok, here it is.

rottentomatoes.com has Iron Man at 90%, as of 4/28/2008 at 1:45 pm EST. The one bad post said it was “light on CGI and emotional quandries”. The other good reviews were saying that the cast was very good but the ending was a bit of a letdown.

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

Oh drat!! I thought just hitting a lot would make the text go down. Sorry to anyone who read it and didn’t want to.

790 says:

Iron Man at 90% sounds good enough for me!!!

Light on CGI?
Gotta be kidding.
Must be real good CGI and the reviewer didn’t notice the difference.

Screen Rant says:

790, that was exactly my thought! And who the heck complains about too LITTLE cgi?? Yeesh.

Anyway there are only 10 reviews in so far and that’s not really enough to draw any conclusions. You need at least 30 of them before the score really means anything, but I’m sure many reviewers have been instructed to hold their reviews for a few more days.

Tomorrow!!!!

Vic

KEL says:

Lookin’ forward to that review, Vic.

It’s the only one that matters to me. haha. :-)

I understand the CGI thing.

When I first saw Titanic (the newest one) I totally overlooked the majority of the scenes with water and sky shots.. not realizing they were cgi. And that was bad, because it was the company I worked at that created the software that created the water simulation scenes!

So if it’s done well enough, I can see how someone overlooks that tiny aspect. (Yea, that was a bad on me.. egads.)

790 says:

Yeah Bruce that’s great because that means the Vfx are totally convincing!!!!

This is good news!

790 says:

Talking about effects Bruce,
I finished watching all the bonus features on the Cloverfield dvd last night and did you realise that the Statue of Liberty head that landed in the street was totally CGI. Even when it came to rest there was nothing there but a big green screen. (I figured they would build a mock up).nope!
Also that entire street shot was all done at Paramount, Hollywood.

Can’t reccomend that dvd highly enough if you liked the film!!!

Yep, it’s amazing what simplest of things are cgi these days. And to think, some day our future generations will look back on these days as the good ol’ days and laugh at the computer technology.

Like we do now about cars, or airplanes.. etc., etc.

790 says:

I saw the Get Smart trailer today with Harold & Kumar and I have to say it looked real bad.
Now I’m a huge Get Smart fan, I payed big bucks for the entire season on dvd, and I also love The Office tv show. But wow I think Steve Corell is in deep over his head on this one.
He looks the part but he’s not even trying to sound like Don Adams. Weather he thought he would do his own take on the character or not, the one liners fall flat when he does them.

Other than the initial laugh at the start there wasn’t one laugh during the trailer.
(And it is a comedy)
Really sucks I was hoping his would be huge. ;-(

Gary says:

790,
there are two trailers out there.
I thought the full length one is pretty good.
I don want an imitatation of adams,
I want a respectful homage to the show .
we shall see how it goes .

Gary says:

So Vic,
Going to take it easy Tonight?
Just stay home and watch American Idol?:)

790 says:

Yeah Gary everything looked real cool but all the famous one-liners that Max used to repeat just don’t have the same impact on me…
Also
Nobody in the theater laughed at all?

I read that the test audiences didn’t like the first version and that they gave Dwanye Johnson (agent 23) more gags.

Screen Rant says:

LOL, yeah, right… I’m leaving to go see Iron Man in about 10 minutes. :-)

I’ll leave my overall thoughts in the new Open Discussion thread that I’ll start up tonight.

Vic

KEL says:

I can’t wait to read that, Vic.

Enjoy the film overall.

This is it!

790 says:

Its all been coming to this moment.
And now its only a few hours away.
Let’s hope it lives up to the hype!

Bruce, the Patrick Warburton Tick was awesome. Gota get that on dvd if you don’t have it allready. :/

790 says:

What you don’t like the Robocop eh Stephen?

First thing came to mind when I saw that picture was “Robocop looks like my new BlackBerry? ” All cromey and silver.

Bruce didn’t you write about this a few months back?

Actually Vic was writing a piece about Remakes and Sequels and he noted they should not do a Robocop.

http://screenrant.com/archives/mgms-awesome-new-strategy-rema-1477.html

And sadly, this is the era of remakes..

Gary says:

there is only ONE robocop!
For me, the original film was it.

Screen Rant says:

LOL, guys you’re going to have to jump over to THIS week’s open discussion (which is up, BTW) for my thoughts on Iron Man. :-)

Vic
