  1. I am getting pretty excited for First Class! The advertising for it (while revealing a lot) is great!

  2. I am a Visual effect artist of ILM…This years best movie will be Transformers DOTM You guys r gonna be thrilled when u see the the in the new trailer nothing really showed we did some awesome CGI effects!

    • If Transformers is this years best movie I will shocked. I seriously doubt Michael Bay has it in him to make a better movie then Kenneth Branagh, Martin Campbell, Jon Favreau or Steven Speilberg. His track record in that department is not very good. Color me skeptical.

    • But we already no the action will be cool. STORY!!!!! My friend who works on 3d for films said transformers has some pretty epic scenes.

    • I never had a problem with the effects for any Transformer movie. The problem is story; will the story be worth it? Time will tell.

      • But there is a limit how far they could push the story in a movie about aliens from another planet, capable of transforming into cars, and keep the story interesting to enough people to draw a crowd.

It’s a movie based on toys and cartoons about said toys, while there is a big fanbase and probably some story there, it wouldn’t appeal to the large market it needs to for it to be profitable.

Considering that, the first Transformers movie wasn’t all that bad, you can’t expect a masterpiece of a story anyway, so the first was good. The second movie though, it was bad. While it was very entertaining (for me), the story was lacking due to the writer’s strike. They started shooting before they had a finished script, and you can’t blame that on Bay. Let’s see what becomes of Transformers 3, with all the excuses gone.

        • I totally disagree with you. Anything can have a great storyline no matyer how ridiculous the premise is. Anything can be realistic and have real ramifications in that story’s universe. ANYTHING!

          • Oh absolutely, it wasn’t meant in that way.
Transformers could absolutely have a great storyline, but Transformers has a more difficult road to that than most other movies.
If they only had to appeal to the fans and those who followed the stories prior to the movie, then it would probably be very entertaining, for that small crowd.

But in order to make the high budget effects required in a big epic Transformers movie, it needs an equally big audience. And because of that, they’ll go in a direction where story and fans isn’t the most important thing. And Bay probably isn’t the best director if you’re after a worthwhile story, but he is one of the best directors to draw a crowd and make ridiculous appeal to a mass audience.

            • Agree

              • This time the story is mysterious and really epic and the action sequences r epic….Rosie is much better then megan (hooker)!

      • Who goes to see a movie about giant robots looking for story? haha

        • foopher,

Oh come on. Who goes to see a movie about:

          - A guy who dresses as a bat and fights crime.

          - A guy who dresses as a spider and fights crime.

          - Space marines fighting an alien that bleeds acid.

          - Etc, etc, etc.

          looking for story?

Do you think maybe a decent story and characters made any of those films better?

          Vic

          • Haha. Ok, I see your point. Not that a better story wouldn’t have made the films better, because I know it would’ve. It’s just that most people I know went to see the movies because they wanted to watch Optimus beat the snot out of a dump truck.

        • I agree but in transformers its mysterious story and we did some epic CGI and action sequences u guys r gonna love it in 3D we r still working in the CGI!

      • Agree. The characters could use some improving too. (Ditch the Mom!)

    • If you are a visual effects artists for ILM, I am the next president of the United States. After looking at your sentence structure, I am willing to bet you are still in high school.

      • You know Jeff white???he`s the one who gave me break in movies and recommended for the movi!

  3. Fiennes is FANTASTIC as Merlin! this last episode was the seasons best!

    • Absolutely, he makes the whole series in my opinion.

  4. Just saw DRIVE ANGRY…..not bad but could of been better…seemed like they wasted a bunch of “God Killer” bullets!

    • I just saw Drive Angry.

It drove me to despair and I was very angry I wasted my time watching it.

So 1 star for an appropriate title. :/

      • “Drive Angry” is what you do on your way home from seeing it. ZING

    • haaa when did chad kroeger become an actor

  5. Just saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spottless Mind. I was very impressed, by the film’s concept and actual execution. Jim Carey possibly at his best. What do you guys think?

    • I like it, it may be too “artsy fartsy” for many viewers, but if you’re open to an alternative movie, I will highly recommend it to anyone. Jim Carrey is most known for his comedy acts, but his dramatic acting is highly underrated. It might be his best, but it’s a close race between Eternal Sunshine, Truman Show and Man on The Moon.

    • Internal sunshine was crowned an awesome movie over five years ago. I’ve yet to meet someone who has seen that movie and disliked it. How can u not like its simple but complex story?

      • Im seeing this movie at the moment :)

        • Wow great acting but i was super confused throughout lol

          • That sounds like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind alright…
            Time for a second viewing!

    • Totally agree. If he could hit that form all the time he’d be one of the best.

      • Exactly as Strandli said, this along with The Truman Show and Man on The Moon are examples of what Carey can really do. After discovering this film today i’m convinced that Carey should do more character based film’s and less out right comedies, and hopefully he might be able to get an academy award nomination.

One more thing. Has anyone seen any other films by Charlie Kaufman (writer for Eternal Sunshine)? Are they any good?

        • @AfroWarrior:

Absolutely. I have seen everything Charlie Kaufman; he has got to be my favorite writer, I just wish he were more prolific. I would highly recommend “Synechdoche, New York,” though some might brand it pretentious or inaccessible, I thought it was his best work and possibly one of my favorite movies ever. “Being John Malkovich” is classic and “Adaptation” is one of the smarter movies out there. All of his works dabble in the ridiculous and have surreal undertones. And they’re cerebral and very very thoughtful.

If you liked Eternal Sunshine and Kaufman’s work on the whole I would also recommend Michel Gondry, in particular “The Science of Sleep.” It reeked of Eternal Sunshine imitation.

          • Totally recommend Being John Malkovich.

            Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich.

            Malkovich?

            …Malkovich.

            Surreal.

    • Loved it. Totally fresh and different from the usual Hollywood slop we get dished. Carey at his best for certain.

  6. I’m probably a minority here, but I have to ventilate about this issue…

The Smallville finale… It wasn’t very good. I’ve watched every single episode, and I have followed the series for years, but I have to say the finale was underwhelming, and so much lost potential.
It was all over the place, there was no fight, there was no suit, Lex was back only to serve as fan service and bring the ending back to status quo, but he served no purpose. There was no big bad guy, all problems were just solved in 5 minutes by pushing a planet away, and by flying through a zombie-Lionel. The only real fight we got was between Clark and Ollie, but that was hardly worth watching. It was disappointing…
As for the planet, how didn’t anyone notice months/years ago? Even someone with a small telescope aimed out the window would notice that damn thing way before it was about the size of the freaking moon.

I don’t whether or not I should judge it by Smallville’s standards, but it wasn’t good and Smallville deserved better. An entire season is 12+ hours long, but how much story do we really get out of it? Imagine how much more satisfying the finale would be if they had built up a more dramatic plot in the episodes prior, at least have some tiny bits of tension. So much wasted potential for great epicness. You could say that the season dragged it down, and the budget limited the writer’s visions, but they could’ve done so much more.

So that is my rant about the series finale we waited 10 years for, it wasn’t worth the wait, but I’m sure someone disagrees with me on that.

    • Has there ever been a final episode of a beloved series that u liked? No there all disappointing because are expectations are to high. Yeah episode was insanely cheesy in the first half “I have to forget about smallvile and my dad to move on” “no wait I must remember” but smallville has sucked for half a decade what did you expect? It was the best episode in awhile and that’s all you can really ask for.

      • I’ve liked several finals of series I like. Scrubs and Office (UK) is among them, even though they’re a different genre. But why re-introduce problems which seemed like they resolved a long time ago? Wedding nerves, the good old “gotta leave Smallville behind” issue and all that stuff isn’t exactly the best way to make a series finale exciting.
I know the writers can do a good job, because all through the series there has been several moments of brilliance. Lionel’s death, the story and chemistry between Clark and Lex, and there are some very suspenseful and exciting season finales with proper build up, why couldn’t they had this level of brilliance in the series finale too?

There are parts of the episode I liked, the ending and it’s music was great, but it could’ve been so much more with a better story, and a bit longer Superman part. Just seeing Clark wearing the suit fully would been nice, but I can imagine there being some contractual or budget issues with that, but still disappointing.

      • I liked the finales for Trek: TNG and DS9, Newhart, and Quantum Leap. I’m sure there are others but I can’t remember right now.

        • Quantum Leap was fantastic! I also liked the endings to Magnum P.I., MASH, and 24.

        • The Quantum Leap finale was KILLER!

      • Dexter always delivers!

        • Dexter hasn’t had a finale episode yet. Well atleast I don’t hope so. Scrubs didn’t even have a final episode! The shows cast was replaced besides brown bear and Cox. To me I have never liked or I guess netter word is loved a final episode

  7. Brynn,

dexter’s season 5 finale was extremely disappointing for a season of dexter.

anyone heard anything about zombieland 2 recently?

  8. Lemme sum it all up…First Class looks interesting, Transformers is gonna suck big time and still make money, Eternal Sunshine is a great movie, Smallvile was a nighttime soap opera for teenage girls disguised as a superhero series and sucked big time, and Dexter is a pretty good show but not great.

    • Pretty spot on except Dexter is what any t.v. show should strive to be as good as.

  9. Plenty of finale’s out there. But I gotta say none will ever be as brilliant as Newhart.

On another note: Two weeks and Thor is boxoffice king! Now I now thats gonna end this week but as long as I waited for it and was looking forward to it. I never imagined it would do that.

    Im happy! lol

    • Newhart’s finale was horrible. What a slap in the face to all the people who watched the show for those years. Oh, it was just a dream. Very very lame.

  10. guys heres the music used in the Green Lantern Wondercon trailer “Mark Petrie – Kara Kul” its so epic

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjQXvE8TFKk

  11. has anyone watched “Attack The Block” cause it was amazing you guys would love it.

  12. So what’s with most of the shows I’ve been getting into getting cancelled? I don’t understand…

    • I’m with you. It’s ridiculous that good shows like Firefly get canceled while Jersey Shore goes into another season. It’s the main reason I don’t even watch TV anymore.

      • Here here

    • Poor ratings.

And that’s a poor comparison Ghost, both shows weren’t around at the same time.

And was Firefly as popular as it is now back when it aired?

      • How is it a “poor comparison”? Firefly got canceled after one season, but Jersey Shore gets a fourth. It doesn’t matter if the shows weren’t around at the same time, it’s still ridiculous.

        • It’s a completely different genre, but we get your point.

  13. So as much as I enjoyed Community season 2 I honestly don’t like what they did with Chang’s character. I mean he was such a badass last season but this season he was such a wuss, look at how awesome he was in paintball last season and then in the finale this season he sucked.

    • Agreed. Chang is hilarious, and was a total badass in paintball last year. This year he wad a wasted character.
I wonder if they’ll do a third paintball story next year…and since its a play off of other movies…will suck like most third movies..hahaha

  14. no,No, NO, NO!, NO! NOOOOO!

    http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/05/16/fox-developing-reboot-of-the-flintstones/

    • Wow, that is just wrong.

  15. so apperently the new DH2 trailer is with pirates 4. helly yeah :)

    • I would’ve thought they would release it for Green Lantern.

      • Well im talking about the one that came out couple weeks ago or so… the new and final trailer will most likely be with green lantern.

        • Oh yeah, I was wondering why that one wasn’t in theaters.

Personally I would be fine with just that one trailer by the way but apparently everyone wants a second one.

  16. On the subject of series’ finale, if theres one undisputed king of disappointments, then it has to be The Sopranos. Watching re-runs now, I still can’t believe they ended it, the way they did. Although I haven’t seen it yet, now way can the Smallville one be as much of a let down as that.

I still amazes me how many criticise Smallville without thinking of the restrictions that show had legally and financially. Mnay people who hated the show still tuned in for the last episode.

Quantum Leap’s finale was poignant, but so premature. Had the show been able to end on it’s own terms, it would’ve been far more fitting to see Sam make his way back home.

The best finale I’ve seen this year so far, was Spartacus Gods Of The Arena

  17. “Idiocracy” a film way ahead of its time.
Just watched it tonight, instant cult classic!

    • Shadow,

I love that film as well – more for its concept than its execution, though.

      Vic

  18. I agree with you about Spartacus I’ve followed Blood and Sand since the beginning, it’s just a shame that they had to replace Andy Whitfield as Spartacus for the second season that’s coming up next year

  19. Hey here is something that I noticed how come we havent seen or heard anything relating to reviews of Xmen First Class, two weeks out and no one has seen the movie? we are getting a lot of cool pics and some quick clips in the trailers but there has been no overall comments of the completed picture, hmmmm.

  20. @Yeti

Yes I’m a Spartacus fan as well, and Blood and Sand also had a terrific season finale. It may be too early to judge, but I find Spartacus at the monet superior alternative to Game Of Thrones, far more exciting and compelling and a lot more easier to keep track of all the characters.

I apologies if I’m being ignorant about the nature of Andy’s cancer, but if he fully recovers, would there not be a chance to bring him back for the third season. He was that good in the role and I can’t imagine Liam Mcintyre being even better in the lead role. The shows fans would certainly celebrate any return that Andy could make.

  21. I’m a big fan of Family Guy, but this past Sunday’s episode was probably one of the worst ever and may have even been it’s “Jump the Shark” moment. Showing a whole music video of Mick Jagger and David Bowie from the 80′s felt it was just filler to get the show to it’s alotted time. Very disappointed.

    • I agree. This season has had “it’s moments”, but over all Family Guy is losing it’s funny

    • Not to mention the full American Dad opening sequence…

  22. Does anybody have any information on The Silent House? If and when it comes out in US theaters? That film looks fantastic. Let me know if you know.
