It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for our weekly discussion post, where you determine the topics!
As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.
Oh, I will ask: Is everyone settling into the new home page design?

Front page looks nice, but is not what I want… So I bookmarked movie news- thats what I want- nothing on the front page I need so the extra click, no thanks. Take me straight to the news plz….
I heard rumours of a plan to have a black actor replace Daniel Craig as Bond and that Will Smith, P Diddy and Jamie Foxx have applied for the role. Is this a belated April Fool’s joke? Can someone pls clarify this for me? I’m black so it’s not a racial issue for me but a continuity matter and the complete distortion of Ian Fleming’s creation. I was already unhappy that Daniel Craig’s Bond had broken continuity. On the other hand, being a sort of ‘prequel Bond’, it wasn’t too bad a direction to take considering that i thought the hi-tech/sci-fi in Brosnan’s last Bond film was getting waay ahead itself. The female M in Craig’s Bond did give the prequel an anachronistic twist though). I have to admit i always dreamt of being Bond as a kid, but come on… Can someone tell me it was just a bad joke?
I’m Asian, and if they thought of making Bond Asian, I would be against that as well…
I hope this isn’t true, they should at least make a few more with Craig and maybe bring a GOOD director in like Martin Campbell again instead of this Marc Forster joke… I’ve been saying I didn’t have faith in Forster directing the next Bond from the day it was announced and all I got were flames. Well, I feel like going back to those forums just to say “I told you so.” but eh, whatever.
I can’t see them getting rid of Craig so soon. He’s been brilliant so far.
Personally I’d rather see the right person for the role, so if a black actor was better than a white one (such as Colin Salmon as was once reported) I wouldn’t mind. They have reshaped Bond a lot.
However changing for the sake of it or for being PC or to get attention, that’s no good.
Oh, just to be really hypocritical, I would not want an american doing the role.
Not digging the new front page much… I’m having to squint (or at least more brain power is required) to look for what’s new.
I’m sorry, but I’m hating this new front page. Before I was just able to go to the site and read the beginning of each article, and I tended to read everything. Now I have to click each article, and I tend to just skip most of them. The new design brings the usability of the site way down.
Bring back the old page
Vic;
I have to agree with everyone else: The new front page is a little cumbersome. I don’t hate it, but it does make it more difficult to peruse the articles and their content. If your asking, bring back the old format or give us a single click option to get to it.
You editors love to change everything!
Yeah I am not liking the business of the front page… if you want to keep it, maybe make the tooltip have part of the story like you the blurbs you used to have?
I agree with all above comments, bring back the old look. This is way too cluttered, and you cant read the beginning of posts.
And I just realized you split tv and movie posts. One feed was much better.
Hey gang,
Well it sounds like I may need to possibly do a second pass on that home page design.
Here’s a tip for you: If you want to see the old style listing you still can… just click on “MOVIE NEWS” or “TV NEWS” in the top horizontal navigation area. You know, that section under the site logo you guys obviously NEVER click on?
Vic
HOLY CRAP, a click-thru!
but yeah I can deal with that, thanks Vic
No Vic, dont change it!!!! Its way easier to navigate through now.
@Oscar!
I’m not abandoning the format, but it sounds like people want more information about each article on the home page, is that right? That makes sense, but I was also trying to group things into categories for first time visitors, to make it easier for them to find things. 80% of daily visits to the site are people that have never been here.
Hey, not that I’m going to duplicate this, but can I ask you guys to click through to this site, have a look and come back and tell me if this is more along the lines of what would be better?

If you’d like to see the home page change, then help me steer it in the right direction, I’d appreciate it – so check out that site and let me know.
Or if there are any other magazine-style home pages that you DO like, point them out here.
Thanks,
Vic
That horror site has quite a complicated layout. Before it was simple – all in one section with the beginning of the article easily accessible. Anything else is really just clutter. With this new article I see I’m skipping a lot of articles, but before I would just read everything because there was no extra effort at all.
“… I would just read everything because there was no extra effort at all.”
My aren’t we lazy. And I agree completely.
Vic the horror site is a step back in the right direction. Maybe instead of having the “Editorial bites” section (or something akin) on yours just make the article listings bigger and maybe another sentence or two to summarize each article.
Vic,
I think the new home page is a nice evolution. It seem your moving towards a more professional look rather than it being a series of blogs.
Looks good, Keep up the good work!
Actually now that I know I can simply click on the news links at the top to get what I come here for, I’m fine with the layout.
It also gives me a quick link to trailers and reviews that I didn’t easily have before.
I saw Star Trek a second time and some of the criticisms had answers directly in the film. People complained that the shields seemed not to function against Nero. During the attack on the Kelvin, one of the bridge crew asks “Are our shields even on?” which would imply that the technological advances that the Narada has are beyond the shields tech of the Kelvin. And the same for the Enterprise, which lost 70% of shield power in the first blast.
The second thing that was criticized was that 800 people could not fit into the shuttles shown escaping the Kelvin. If you take note, you only see the silhouettes of the shuttles that are in front of the star they were surveying at first. As the camera pans right, the contrast changes on the right side of the screen as the star pans left out of the frame, and you can then see a line of shuttles – stretching beyond the ones you see first – to the edge of the screen. So, there were more shuttles, but you could only see the ones in front of the star at first.
Also, on the home page. I like the new layout now that I know where to look for things.
actually ,I have no problem with the new look of the front page.
I did, for about 30 seconds and then I saw the more movie news heading and clicked on that.
It really amounts to just one more click.
love the new homepage way better then the last one.
Not a big fan of the new design, too corporate
I preferred how the page used to be where I would just type in screenrant.com and get both tv and movie news all on one page. You guys are my morning newspaper!! ^^
I’m getting used to the new look Vic,,,
I have a question for everyone living in cities?
Have you all noticed Terminator Salvation banners going up on the sides of buildings in your cities.
Here I LA, the banners for this film cover entire sides of tall buildings. More than one.
Good job Mark! I noticed that as well. Another sell-out on a Tuesday night! And after the 2nd viewing I heard alot of folks talking about shields….My Wife and I counted 11 references to shields including the last scene. And Nero’s ship was a mineing ship, I do not know why that has been a negative in it’s design. I thought it was brilliant. Vic is the expert Trekker here and tried to follow his lead and look for what he was speaking of. I still loved it!
I am getting used to the new format on your page as well Vic.
I like that site setup, or actually I like the way the right side is layed out, I think if there was no editorial whatever on the left side and instead an accompanying pic of the story that would be nicer, the pics draw you in when you read something you don’t wanna click but if the pic is interesting then you will, or you gloss over it and the pic captures your attention you know. I think the pic with the story is key because yes I also just bypass the front page now. Bottom line is people want movie news and reviews, the news needs to large enough to stand out with a pic and reviews should be easily accessible.
At first glance I was a little thrown off by the change, as I was always used to the big stories catching my eye and leading me so seductively to read them, but after digging around, I think I like the move towards better organization of content.
One of the best things, and what I think sets you apart from the rest, about your site is that everything about it screams community. From the “family” of writers and contributors, to these Open Discussions, to the inclusion of personal and passionate rants (Twilight, X-Men), SR has always felt like a true community.
And I hope that the new look, whether it’s a more “professional” look or it’s more “corporate,” (I don’t really know what that means anyway) flows together seamlessly with your established community.
Hey, where is the latest TV Wrap-up?
