As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion May 11, 2012

  1. Haven’t seen The Avengers yet. Hate packed movie theater’s.

    • i also hate packed movie theatres but for a big movie like this its actually better to see it with a big audience, I’ve watched it twice and the time that it was packed was more fun for some reason.

    • Saw it opening night (Friday) and again last night. Opening night it was very enjoyable in the packed theater for two reasons. One, it was good enough all the smartphone idiots turned them off and actually avoided texting for 2 1/2 hours. Miracle! Two, all the hard core fans show up and get all the inside references and consequent laughs more so than later audiences.

FWIW, last night’s showing was still elbow to elbow in the good seats.

      Love me some SHAWARMA!

    • Great topic to start off with! I usually hate packed theaters as well. People talking, high schoolers being annoying and people texting! Takes away from the enjoyment of the film.

BUT! For the Avengers, I saw a mightnight showing and opening night and there were no issues. And I felt that the huge crowd enhanced the film as it seemed that everyone was enjoying it.

    • I pretty much agree with the above comments…
Packed theaters are usually a bit of a hassle, but for me, empty theaters aren’t nice either (especially with a movie like The Avengers).
With a movie like this, you want a crowd. You want people that can laugh along with you and share in the experience. There’s just more enthusiasm, which makes it a lot more fun.
IMO, the best time to have seen the movie was on opening day or the midnight showing because then, you’d most likely be surrounded by fans (not text-ers and annoying @$$holes)

So, shame on you dude. Go see the movie NOW! ;)

    • I watched the avengers at the midnight premier and the experience was great. As soon as the lights dimmed out the whole theater went completely silent. Everyone enjoyed the movie and there wasn’t any distractions throughout the entire film.

    • I found going to see it opening night to be a thoroughly vile experience, the film is fantastic, but the cinema going experience is one I don’t care to repeat very often.
      People talking loudly.
      Eating food like grazing animals.
      Shouting and clapping.
Constantly standing up to go back to the bar for more beer.

You want to eat and drink, go to a bar or restaurant. Don’t go to the movies.

      • Normally I’d agree with you Doctor. But at the packed midnight showing I saw the crowd was ruckus during the previews and such, but when the movie started rolling it was silent except from laughing. EXCEPT for one girl who absolutely refused to turn off her phone despite my friends not-so-subtlu hints … which were hilarious.

Example 1: During the part of the cinema politely asking patrons to turn of their cell phones, which she didn’t, he was sitting forward in his seat with his elbows on his knees and said loudly, “Hmmmm, so they actually want us to turn our phones OFF. Interesting.”

Example 2: When that failed to compel her to action and the movie has begun he is still sitting forward less than a foot from the back of her head he says even louder, “Man that text is really small. How am I suppose to see what your texting when that type is so little?” This one made me literally laugh out loud, much to the embarrassment of my daughter and his daughter.

When this STILL failed to push her to turn off the phone a bit of an exchange happened and my buddy finally went out and got the ushers. Even after ALL of that she didn’t turn it off, just dimmed it. It’s good she didn’t have a guy in the group because I AM SURE it would have escalated.

Anywho, other than that no problems. :)

        • Hahaha! That’s hilarious man.
As for that chick, I don’t understand how people can be so selfish. It’s crazy…

          • BTW, my buddy is a professional comedian so I am sure this will end up in his show at some point.

      • Woah, woah, woah… you can get BEER at the movies in England?!
        That’s a bad idea ;)

        • Yeah, you can in most cinemas these days here.

          • that’s it! I’m moving across the pond then!

  2. Did Thanos really Create the “Infinity Gauntlet” if no, who did.

    • In the Comicverse, the Infinity Gauntlet is just his glove that he attaches the Infinity Gems(aka Soul Gems) to, Thus calling it the Infinity Gauntlet. However, the story may be different for the movieverse. To many holes compared to the Comicverse, Hopefully they get explained in the future or next movie installments…

  3. Hey Vic, this:
“Follow us if you want to live.”

    Genius.
    LMFAO

    • :-D

  4. so is Marvel doing The Inhumans film,Ant-man and Namor? and after X-men first class 2 is fox still going to do the x-men 4 and 5 together?

    • I don’t see those X-Men sequels ever being made.

  5. 100 greatest movie insults of all time

    • Pt 2

  6. Mr. Holtreman,

I remember some time ago that you & your Staff were considering upgrading the site. Have you considered using Disqus for the sites comment section?..

    http://disqus.com/

    • They did once and it was HORRIBLE.
Please Vic, don’t go back to that.
      I beggeth thee!

      • Good info, I didn’t know really. It was more than likely before I found the site…

      • Ugh, I hate disqus as well.
It’s one of the many reason I prefer SR to other movie sites.

        • Same here.
It’s so much easier to read and comment with other Ranters.
I’ll comment on sites that use Disqus every so often but I never go back to interact or respond. It’s to much of a hassle, especially if I’m using my iPod.

      • Disqus: Enough! You should do as I command, and apply our product….
Vic: (grabs Disqus’s leg) BAM! POW! SMASH! Command that!

        :-D

        • Vic walks away and utters the words “Puny Disqus” 8)

    • We won’t be going back to Disqus, as some old-timers here have pointed out. :)

I do plan on adding the ability to edit comments, create accounts and possibly connect Twitter/Facebook logins with our system.

      Vic

      • Hey Vic, I don’t post much but I am one of your regular (as in every day) readers and I appreciate the great job ya’ll are doing and look forward to the improvements you mentioned.
        James

        • Thanks, iakobos – that’s always nice to hear.

          Vic

  7. I just watched the season finale of The Big Bang Theory.
It was awesome: Very, very funny from start to finish (I particularly enjoyed a joke made about a certain CBM ;))
So far, season 5 was pretty mediocre IMO. There were a few good episodes, but for the most part it wasn’t up to standard for me. Glad they ended it on a high note though. I’ll certainly be back for the next season.

  8. So with the only other major release in the U.S. this week being Dark Shadows I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say The Avengers will be #1 again at the box office.
Anyone want to guess what it will make?
    I think it can do @ $65,000,000
When you consider it’s been averaging $13-$18,000,000 Monday-Wednesday I might be quite a bit under.

    • Haha! I should do a bit of research before I guess.
Box Office Mojo is estimating @ $95,000,000.
      Silly me ;)

    • Well, I always figured it would stay number 1 for at least 3 weeks, and it looks like it will hit the billion dollar club this weekend (over $800 million so far).

    • “Top men” are saying it will break the $1billion mark this weekend (internationally of course), so I wouldn’t be surprised if the US total is around 80mil-100mil…

  9. Hey y’all. Anyone think we’re going to get a teaser for Man of Steel with Dark Knight Rises?? Nothing spectacular just maybe a voice over and a few quick shots and the logo.

Also has anyone on from the editorial team heard anything about this “HUNTER KILLER” movie with Gerard Butler and Sam Worthington? Does anybody care? No, but I really would like to see the general public’s reaction to a movie called “HUNTER KILLER” (Caps essential)

    Say it, HUNTER KILLER
