Op-Ed: Cast Colin Ferguson as Captain America!

Sep 3, 2007 by

Colin Ferguson and Captain AmericaAfter watching Eureka for two years now, I recently had the thought that Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Carter) should star in the planned Captain America movie as ol’ Cap himself.

Ferguson has an all-American look, he’s a great actor, has a strong voice and is someone who commands every scene he’s in.

What I also love about Ferguson as an actor is his ability to show a serious side as well as a humorous side (sometimes in the same scene), which is a must on a show like Eureka.

Last year, a few fans took notice that Eureka co-star Ed Quinn (Dr. Stark) had the look, build, voice, etc., to play Tony Stark in the Iron Man movie. (Yes, I’m very happy with the casting of Robert Downey, Jr. And yes, I loved the episode of Eureka where Stark’s company was called Stark Industries. But I digress…)

So, Marvel Studios honchos (Kevin Feige, Avi and Ari Arad, and the rest), listen up:

Give Colin Ferguson a Captain America screen test, then get him outfitted in the red, white and blues for the role he was born to play!

  1. Meh…I dunno. He’s not completely a bad choice, but then he’s not completely a good choice either. I’m still vouching for Paul Walker……I just want them to hurry up and make this movie already!

  2. Oh jesus!! Paul Walker? You cant be serious? I don’t think cap’s shield needs to be outfitted with “spray”

  3. Spray?

Can you explain? I’m not familiar with “Eureka” if that’s the reference…

    Vic

  4. I don’t think Hirogen meant that in a Eureka context. I think he meant that in a hairspray context, heh heh heh.

    heath

  5. My vote is for Mark Valley of Boston Legal. The guy looks dead on like Cap and his character on Boston Legal is even nicknamed Captain America.

  6. Great pick, he’s got my vote! Love his character on the show and he would make for a well-rounded Cap. My second pick would be Ex-punisher, Thomas Jane.

  7. Thomas Jane,eh Adrian? He was one of my choices before he played the Punisher. I don’t think any actor that’s already played a superhero should play another superhero in another movie. It just doesn’t seem right.

And I don’t get what you guys are babling about “spray” for or whatever. Paul’s not that bad an idea guys. Beats Owen Wilson as Cap anyday,no? Hey,speakin’ of Owen, did anyone else hear that his buddy Ben Stiller was rumored to be Batman in JLA? That would totally suck! They’d probably cast Owen Wilson as Robin instead of Cap if that were to happen.

  8. Hair spray eh? Well yeah fair enough, but actually it was a dig at the Fast and the Furious :P But I figure take what you will from the comment. As for Owen Wilson? See, and I thought it didn’t get any worse than Paul Walker, seems I was mistaken.

  9. LOL!

  10. I think Mathew Fox (“jack” from Lost) is the perfect Captain America. He’s got that energy and the look. Check him out in spandex in Racer-X soon! Just give him a clean shaven look and a dyed his hair blonde and he’s your Steve Rogers.

  11. I think Matt Damon should be Captin America! IT was rumored in the may 2007 edition of wizkid magazine & I thought it was an amazing idea!!

  12. Yeah, I could see Matt Damon as Cap. Has anyone considered Mark Wahlberg?

  13. I don’t know, acting wise He would be phenominal but he really doesn’t look it, he’s a little skinny I think!

  14. Oh, yeah, people are talking already that Matthew Mcconahey is being looked at to play the hero!
NOt good!! NOT GOOD AT ALL!!

  15. Mark wasn’t to skinny in SHooter

  16. he was built but not that superhero bulit wasn’t that dwane “The rock” johnson built!

  17. Well neither are Matt Damon or Matt Fox, but yeah I get your point.

Personaly any of those three would have my vote, I think the bulkyness could be made up for, like the muscle suits in the Fantastic Four.

  18. Wow some of these picks are horrible. So far i guess the guy from Eureka could play the role….but Matt Damon? Then we could call it the “Captain identity”…Matt would make a good Bucky….but not Cap….

  19. Matt as bucky?? No way!

He’d be good as Cap sure, but again I’d like Mark Wahlberg to play him, as for being built they could give him a believible muscle suit like in Fantastic 4.

  20. Matt as bucky?? No way!

He’d be good as Cap sure, but again I’d like Mark Wahlberg to play him, as for being built they could give him a believible muscle suit like in Fantastic 4.

  21. Ok first of all let me say that NO wrestlers should play important comic book characters. And if they were already in a comic book movie as a major character, they shouldnt portray another character in the marvel/dc universe, sorry Thomas Jane. That being said I have thought of a few choices for actors who i think could pull off Captain America. And Paul Walker is NOT one of them, he’s just a pretty boy and i have never been impressed by anything he’s done. And dont get me started on Matthew McConaughey…are they serious? Ok…here we go

Gerard Butler – after 300 he has the stature and attitude to play a superhero

Leo DiCaprio – His last few movies have been awesome and if he can get built like he was in Blood Diamond he would make an awesome Cap

Jake Gyllenhall – The guy can act and since they passed on him for spidey, Id like to see him get his due.

Those are my top 3 choices, here are a few others i wouldnt mind seeing in the role but these guys are a little old for the role, but might still be awesome
    Peter Sarsgaard
    Viggo Mortenson
    Daniel-Day Lewis
    Josh Brolin
    Billy Crudup
    Bruce Willis

    Thanks for reading

  22. Physique is important but Leo is just too young. I know he’s been frozen in ice and all but he’s still gotta be a battle-worn badass! And after all, he’s the wise voice from the Greatest Generation so a little bit of leather on the face is a good thing. Pitt’s the right age but something is still off about him. Maybe he has a little too much of the “cool and mysterious” image for my taste in Cap. I wish we could go back in time and pluck Robert Redford from “The Natural”, slap 30 pounds on him, and call it a day. For now however, if I had my casting druthers, I’d give the shield to Aaron Eckhart. You can’t deny that chin! Here’s what he’d look like:

  23. Dicaprio doesn’t look like a little boy any more:

He’s almost 34 years old now.

  24. me and about fifteen friends feel that john cena would be your best candidate and no I do not like wrestling but I see mr cena’s ability and definitely give a thumbs up

  25. While I didn’t like “The Marine”, I felt that Cena did a decent acting job. I can see him as Cap with a good director.

  26. Cap is #1!!!
Can they get an AMERICAN to play him
    & Steve Rodgers.
I like Colin Ferguson, but he is a Canadian.
Hey, I know Ben Affleck as Cap and Matt as Bucky. Both are born on the USA.
Or someone younger, that could pull off being “4F” to Super-soldier.

  27. I like the picks that everyone is saying but i have to say that Dicaprio is a bad choice i just cant see him doing it. Matt Damon i have to say no and Ben Affleck a big time no. I have to say hell no to Matthew Mcconahey come on we want a hero not a stoner. Also from the rumors i have heard Will Smith come on man not trying to racist but Cap was white and thats the way it should stay. Dont want a wrestler but Cena would be good. I can see Mark Wahlberg, Gerard Butler, and Ben Mckenzie.

  28. mr kennedy as cap sure he is a wrestler but he has the allamerican look and he can act he is a wrestler after all, plus he has the body wont need a body suit

  29. I think McConaghey is the worse choice I’ve seen (aside from Paul Walker). Captain America shouldn’t have the voice of a stoner. Channing Tatum has also come up, but I don’t see him having the body to pull it off. John Cena is the logical choice. He’s a true American, has the body, can do his own stunts, he’s got the voice, the swagger, and really isn’t that bad of an actor. With a good director and good supporting cast, Cena would shine is this kind of role.
