OK, so most of us hated and/or were insanely let-down by Spider-Man 3. We know it’s a huge question mark as to whether or not Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi show up for Spider-Man 4 while James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) is currently typing away at the script.
I’m not even going to bring up Kirsten Dunst because honestly, no one cares.
So here’s an idea, true-believer (sorry I couldn’t help but unleash my inner Stan “The Man” Lee!) If you called the shots on Spider-Man 4, what would you do? Would you bring back Maguire, Raimi & Co. or flat-out replace them?
By the way, this is for everyone who wants to add their $.02: Readers and my fellow Screen Rant writers. So please, let’s hear your ideas. And there will be a test on this later, boys and girls.

I’ll go first (obviously, since I’m the schmuck who started this discussion).
Although I’m not the first to suggest him (IGN Filmforce), Edgar Wright (from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) would be the perfect guy to take over for Sam Raimi. He’s obviously talented in terms of visual flair (check out the action sequences from Hot Fuzz). Not to mention, he has the right comedic sensibilities - any and every thing involving Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together equals comic gold!
Heck, Wright could be the guy to give Webhead the classic wise-cracks we’ve been missing outta the previous films. If for no other reason, having him direct Spider-Man 4 could mean Pegg and Frost show up in some fashion. And the thought of them sharing a scene with Bruce Campbell is enough to make my head explode (in a good way).
As for Webhead himself, I’d love to say “Just get Tobey again!” But the truth of the matter is that Peter Parker is supposed to around 22-24 years old. By the time Spider-Man 4 graces the silver screen (summer 2010), Maguire will be 35. To be fair, if he can effectively play that age, then we’re in good shape. But… there’s too much fear of another “Roger Moore” situation (i.e. being so old that it becomes laughable and a distraction from said film).
With that in mind, I would say go for a flat-out unknown actor (in the vein of Chris Pine and Brandon Routh) and get him down for 3 Spidey adventures just to be safe.
For me, the villain is obvious: The Lizard. Dylan Baker (Fido) has been solid (albeit under-used) as Dr. Connors, and it’sabout time we get to see the Lizard roaming the sewers of Manhattan. If there has to be more than one villain in this film, I’d say go for Electro for no other reason than he’s one of the all-time great classic Spidey villains.
Alrighty then. Who’s next?

Fans complained that Superman Returns had too much love. And yet no one complained about the boring love crap in parts 1-3 of Spider-Man.
Lose 99% of the love angle, and we’ll be better.

I would first of all completely recast and aim for a semi-reboot. Start fresh with a younger Peter in high school but not an origin (think new hulk flick). I would want to use Venom properly at some point down the line so I feel it’s necessary to start fresh.
Peter will be dating Gwen Stacy and not Mary Jane.
Villains for this first of a new set of movies would to start with be The Scorpion and maybe Electro.
Wise cracking Spidey would be on full effect.
Romance would be kept to a minimum, but it would feature teen angst.
Cast unknowns for Peter and Gwen, then fill some of the supporting cast with names.
IT WILL HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO REMOVAL OF SPIDEYS MASK DURING FIGHTS WITH VILLAINS.
NO STUPID DANCING WITH MUSICAL NUMBERS.
AND NO CRAPPY PETER PARKER SOBBING.
Can’t decide on a director yet, but this is pretty much what I would want.
I think Singer trully achieved Spielberg-status in the “movie magic” department; which very few have imo. Granted I WAS anticipating another X2 experience (i.e. non-stop superhero action!) Sure, there were definitely those moments but Singer had other issues in mind (i.e. the story of lost-love and yearning between Supes and Lois!)
So I can understand why some people didn’t dig it. But…to say the film lacks depth (like some have suggested) is out-right silly imo.
All that said, THE MAN OF STEEL will be action-packed and the kind of kick in the rear that audiences wanted RETURNS to be from Singer. It was be awesome come Summer 2010, folks.
Jamie
People don’t read comics or go see superhero movies for beautiful emotional complexity. At least I don’t.
Sure, I want character development in an action movie (otherwise you won’t care about the characters), but to see the uber-iconic Superman as a ‘whipped bastard father who can’t find an adversary who actually has superpowers?
Sorry, no.
Vic
Very cool article Jamie..!
^
We’ll I had no prob with Spider-Man 3 (it wasn’t Citizen Kane but) I thought it was the best of the 3. :-)lol Vic.
On Spider-Man 4 »
From the start I allways felt there was way too much Mary Jane follies.
I could do with MJ-lite on this next one or without her at all. They could go with his other girlfriend (I forgot her name) dosnt matter to me.
The next film should just be about the action NOT the romance. I would rather see Aunt May in danger to really bring Parker over the top to battle Electro, Lizard or Rhino…
I would also hope that Venoms remaining goo could transform towards the end into Carnage. It would also be great to see OsCorps technology fall into the wrong hands and create a real HobGoblin or even Demogoblin?
Of course it goes against the comic grain but I would love to see Sandman help Spider-Man and become a good guy.(Gotta have Thomas Hayden Church in that role!!!!) I loved that guy in S3.
It looks like Sam Rami and crew are ALL going to Hell anyway so bring in a new Director (add good director here)… I personally wouldn’t walk away from Spider-man but whatever. Maybe without Rami we will get a more hardcore film?
Keep Tobey Maguire he still looks like he’s in his 20’s to me. He’s BO gold in
the role and too me is Spider-Man. It would be like doing another Pirates movie and recasting Depp. (Just not gonna work).
Add all this together and WOW
Hobgoblin, Electro, Lizard or Rhino, Sandman, Carnage sheesh. There’s a friggin blockbuster if done well. It could even end with some of the characters surviving into Spider-Man 5. I would love to see a Rubber-Cell (aka Magneto/x-men) that holds Electro at the end.
James Vanderbil are you reading this!!!
Steal it from me I don’t care. Just make a kick ass Spider-Man 4. Thanks.
Ps Zodiac was very well written!
They should definately bring back Tobey as he IS Spiderman now in the movie-universe, but they need to take the style of the films in an entirely new and fresh direction.
Focus on one bad buy and a solid plot, choose one who’s not partly good or redeeming like Doc Oc and both Green Goblins were. He needs a real villain for once. No more of this random plotline mixed with every villain we can think of bullshit
Right on Rob! Tobey rules as Spidey.
But I’m for more villians!! As the comics progressed Spider-Man had to face more villians he even went up against 6 in a row one time. I forget that title.
If anything they really need the Sandman back to ether close out is arc or continue and I think Oscorps Goblin-armor should allways be in the background as it was in the comics.
Is I had a choice for main villian it would be Electro or Carnage.
I agree, Jamie, it MUST be the Lizard. Funny, some of the most classic Spidey Baddies wouldn’t translate well into movies.
790, that would be the Sinister Six.
Whoever the bad guy, I will go back and see it ten times if the opening scene has them killing Mary Jane.
Electro–those would be the lamest special effects ever. (We’ve seen it on Star Trek wall panels, on Heroes, etc.)
The Vulture–who cares about a guy who flies?
Scorpion–too much like the Lizard.
Rhino–Hmm, could work. But kind of limited…a guy who has to charge to do any damage.
Mysterio–I liked the look, but…what did he do except pass gas?
Kraven–Hmm, could work well, if they used trained animals and not CGI.
Hammerhead, Kingpin–Um, not enough powers, and we don’t need to spend half the movie on mop networks.
Chameleon–Shapeshifters…passe.
Jamie, nice article title. Not too schamaltzy, not too clever–just right.
This is an awesome article, I love these “what if” columes.
Great Job Jamie!!
Because of your post tonight I find myself watching Spider-man 3. Man the action scenes kick it in this film !
Jamie,
First of all (been said before) thank you for putting up this article and opening the debate…
Raimi should not return as director, although I’m mixed on Toby. I like his Peter, but as Spidey it’s a little off to me. I know he is in his twenties, but S3 he acted like a highschool freshmen. Let him grow up as a person like he has in the comics.
4: The Lizard is a fantastic choice for a villain, and only villain. I like the angle of Peter wanting to help Conners at the same time fighting him to protect the public.
Give Jonah more of a role. Show that he really hates Spidey, and really wants to make him a criminal in the eyes of the public. Maybe Jonah finds out the Conners is the Lizard and Spidey somehow blackmails him into not printing it. A good moral dilema for Peter.
I think Peter should be dating Gwen, with Mary Jane in a minimal role, maybe even just a cameo. Peter keeps Spidey a secret from her so that he doesn’t make the same mistake he did with Mary Jane. Another moral dilema.
Spidey 5: Introduce Cletus Kasady, and bring Mary Jane in a bit more. Maybe Cletus is a slasher with a taste for the same women as Peter bringing Gwen, Mary Jane, and Peter into a wickid triangle as Spidey tries to keep both safe.
Since there has to be a Supervillain, maybe someone Jonah hires to get revenge on Spidey, Scorpion, Shocker, Electro. Of course Jonah tries to cover his a$$ again when this villain turns out to be more a menace than a hero. Spidey defeats him while searching for Gwen who is kidnapped by Kasady. During the rescue Kasady pushes her off of a roof (or something) to force Spidey to make the choice to save her or capture him. Spidey tries to accomplish both and he inadvertantly kills Gwen. End with Peter visitng Mary Jane, who may or may not believe he was reckless in Gwen’s death, and a devestated Peter looking at Eddie Brock’s pic of him in the black suit taken in S3.
6: Spidey wears a black costume, trying to track down Kasady. Jonah is plstering the papers that Spidey is a killer, and Peter can really have it out with him (not a fight but an underlying mutual hatred). Of course Kasady gets a hold of the symbiot, maybe following Spidey to Conners’s house where Spidey (1) is checking on Conners who is still recovering and (2) to contemplate rejoining with the symbiot as his inner struggle continues (hatred for Jonah, Kasady, and rejection by Mary Jane). Kasady becomes Carnage. By the end, Mary Jane and Peter reconcile and, something tells me Peter will tell Jonah that he’s Spidey.
I would love to see a cameo of Robert D Jr as Stark somewhere in the mix. I guess since Jarvis is a computer Aunt May can’t date him tho.
Sorry, just thoughts, didn’t figure it all out yet. I just want there to be a good story arc for three films. I think the goblin thing is finished after S3.
Addition: tie-ins to the running theme
In the climactic battle with Carnage, Spidey is able to separate them with Cletus helpless and begging for the symbiot. Cletus could give some speech about how he wants the power, needs the power. Spidey counters with a “with great power…” speech.
Maybe somewhere Aunt May makes Peter think twice about Jonah, comparing him to Uncle Ben in some way. I don’t know…
I know I’m just thinking of the dramatic parts, but the story needs to carry throughout like a real trilogy. The middle chapter is the big downer, resolution at the end of the third, etc.
i think you’re on the right lines with edgar wright directing and simon pegg and nick frost might make some cool small villians in the movie (nick would be amazing as the rhino!)
i say keep tobey in the role if he can do it or get someone unknown
lizard or electro as the villian or villians
cut the crappy dancing parts
There is still so many villains. One could argue that you could transition Venom’s disappearance into Carnage making an appearance and turn the movie into an all out slug fest.
Its too bad that Venom got the treatment from Raimi that he did. Totally underutilized and had his butt kicked far too often for my liking. I really liked how he looked too, i was really disappointed on how his role turned out.
We can all sit here and complain about the love story in Spiderman, but it wasn’t much different in the comic book. Spiderman was always all about Mary Jane, she was always a pawn, falling for other guys, never knew what she wanted. Raimi just put the love story in the forefront of the entire movie instead of weaving it into the movie.
If there was one thing I could completely remove from the entire Spiderman series, it would be James Franco. It is not possible for a worse performance from anyone involved.
the flaws that have annoyed me since the first Spiderman movie should be fixed for Spiderman 4, which is a film i believe the whole series has been leading up to. Green Goblin was a potent threat because he knew Spidey’s identity, and because Spidey didn’t want to kill him. however,
he was significantly weaker than the villains to come because he was merely human. granted, insane and extra strong, but still a human fighting a superhuman. Doc Ock was a human fused with a machine, making him a more potent threat, but the ridiculous struggle between human and machine rendered him not only impotent but, frankly, annoying. there’s nothing worse than a villain who doesn’t act the part; it makes the hero that much more pathetic for getting his butt kicked.
now, Spiderman 3 upped the ante properly, but it was overkill; having three antagonists cramped the film, and as a result, they were mishandled badly. Sandman was, again, given the sympathy angle that ruined Doc Ock; he wasn’t a bad guy, just misunderstood, as was Harry. i could talk about how terrible the new Green Goblin was (WTF cyberpunk goblin?) but i digress. Venom, which by any Spidey fan’s calculations should be Spiderman’s most threatening nemesis, was defeated handily, thanks to the completely ludicrous last minute redemption of Harry.
however, we do have the chance to redeem the whole series. The Lizard and Carnage. The backgrounds are already there; Doctor Connors has the last remaining piece of the symbiote that could easily become Carnage, and his experiments in nerve regeneration will inevitably lead to the creation of The Lizard.
Carnage is perfect. he’s a killing machine. he’s not like Venom, who was blinded by his quest for vengeance. Carnage desires only to kill EVERYONE without mercy, making him, without a doubt, Spiderman’s ultimate enemy. The Lizard needs to be handled right; no sympathy angle. Connor needs to be irrevocably altered and berserk, a wild animal stalking human prey, like Predator to Spidey’s Schwarzenegger. these two threats alone should provide more than enough story to keep it interesting.
a new director is a given; i would suggest Pitof, he of the unquestionably bad Catwoman. many will respond with rage, but before you judge, i suggest you watch Pitof’s first film, “Dark Portals/Vidocq” and tell me that he doesn’t have the raw talent. the problem with Catwoman was that Pitof was dealing with a pointless, wasted property that the studio didn’t know how to handle, so he did what the studio told him and took his paycheck. but he’ll do with Spidey what Nolan did with Batman; he’ll bring him down to earth, reinstating live action fights between Reptile and Spidey. he knows how to deliver an action film, and he won’t bother with the romance angles or any angst; it’ll be all business, which is what the series has needed from day one.
i, personally, would actually like to see Hugh Laurie play Cletus Kasady. Laurie would play a grittier Kasady, more like a real serial killer, rather than the nutty caricature presented in the comics. most importantly, once he becomes Carnage, he should never show his face. this way, a double can play Carnage and Laurie can do voice overs, instead of enduring the torturous makeup required.
THE MOVIE:
Peter and MJ are on a date, and Peter is again considering proposing. while they’re at dinner, we witness Connors’ first experiment and his initial success, seemingly without a hitch. later, Peter and Mary return to his apartment, Peter choking on his proposal, where we meet Kasady, who lives in the same building. he stalks MJ as she leaves Peter’s apartment, confused about Peter’s odd behavior. as Kasady stalks MJ, we see Peter once again contemplating the retirement of the Spidey costume. instead, he puts it on and decides to go webslinging. when Kasady sees Spidey swing overhead, he quits his pursuit of MJ and retreats, instead murdering a couple in cold blood in their apartment in Peter’s building. Peter himself encounters the Lizard for the first time, and while at first is unable to make the connection between the Lizard and Connors, hesitates at the last moment because of something familiar about the Lizard, who escapes. Connors wakes up the next morning bruised and battered, recalling a terrible nightmare. Peter finds out about the murder, Kasady’s third (though he’s committed hundreds more, as elaborated by the creepy secret murder shrine in his apartment). He calls Mary Jane and asks her about the night before, and she recalls the feeling she had of being followed. Peter decides to do some follow-up investigation, and in the course of his day, bumps into Connors, who mentions the piece of symbiote to Peter and reveals that has succeeded in cloning it. that night, Peter sneaks into Connors lab to steal the clone with the intent to destroy it, but is attacked by the Reptile while trying to do so. this is when Peter realizes the Reptile’s true identity, but is again unable to capture the monster, who escapes into the sewers. Peter returns to his apartment with the clone but is too exhausted by the battle to immediately dispose of it. Kasady sneaks into his apartment and begins collecting Peter’s memoirs of MJ, and finds the clone. himself aware of the Venom monster, he returns to his apartment and unleashes it, becoming Carnage. he then proceeds to murder his neighbors. their screams wake Peter, who rushes to investigate and is attacked by Carnage. the assault leaves him unconscious but not dead. Aunt May is watching a news report of the killings in which Peter is mistakenly reported dead. she suffers a heart attack, but her lifeline monitor alerts an ambulance, which picks her up and takes her to the hospital, where Peter is just leaving. as he is calling Aunt May’s home, he sees her being wheeled out on a stretcher.
only the combined chaos of Carnage and Reptile attacking the city at once pulls him away from his mothers bedside. MJ herself is the one who convinces him that NYC needs Spiderman. Peter manages to subdue the Reptile and eventually is able to speak to Connors. Connors himself is unaware that he is the Reptile, though he suspected it. unable to assist Spidey in stopping Carnage, Spidey tries to have Connors imprisoned for his own protection, but Connors transforms while being transferred to captivity and escapes again. Peter, meanwhile, is at a press conference where JJ and his son are announcing the next space flight when Carnage attacks. when Spiderman shows up, Carnage takes JJ hostage. Spiderman saves JJ but Carnage proceeds to nearly kill JJ’s son, and then blames it on Spidey. Jonah agrees, and later that day, while checking out the scene of Connor’s escape, Peter sees Jonah on TV, announcing his 10K dollar bounty on Spiderman. Peter immediately becomes a target as two bounty hunters (Danny Trejo, Vin Diesel) interrogate him at gunpoint regarding his connection to Spidey. Spidey shows up later and is about to defeat them when he hears about another Carnage attack. showing up on the scene, he is beaten badly by Carnage, who decides he is a nuisance, and reveals that, because of the symbiote, he knows who Spidey is, and then states that, because Spidey keeps interfering, that he’s going to kill everyone Peter loves. Connors, in the meantime, has returned to his lab to find that the original symbiote has completely regenerated. he takes it and leaves. later, while Peter is fighting off the bounty hunters, we see Connors enter the hospital room of John Jameson. he smashes the container and flees, transforming into the Reptile. Aunt May, having awoke and seeing Peter Parker being attacked by bounty hunters, is trying to leave the hospital against the doctor’s wishes when the Reptile rushes by and shoves her against a wall. As Peter is fighting the bounty hunters, Mary Jane watches on TV and then recieved the phone call; Aunt May is dead. Mary Jane, beginning to cry, gets up to leave but is interrupted by Carnage, standing outside her door. Peter, in the meantime, is racing across the city to the hospital where the Lizard was last seen. upon arrival, he sees a familiar figure standing in the doorway of the hospital, holding what appears to be a dead Dr. Connors; Venom?
John Jameson is the new Venom, and as Spiderman attacks him, Venom simply defends himself. when Peter realizes that Venom isn’t attacking, he stops. John reveals his identity and explains what has happened, that Connors is merely unconscious; and that, unlike the mentally-imbalanced Brock, John is capable of resisting, even controlling the symbiote. he reveals Carnage’s identity, and Peter, realizing the danger MJ is in, asks for Venom’s help, who agrees. using Venom’s connection to Carnage, they track him down.
the climax of the film has Kasady sitting in Peter’s apartment, holding a mere knife to MJ’s throat. when Peter enters, Kasady starts a lecture about chaos and the true nature of man and how impossible Spiderman is. when Peter declares his intent on continuing as Spiderman no matter how hopeless it becomes, Kasady tells him of May’s death. Utterly crushed, Peter looks at MJ, whose tears reveal the truth. as Peter collapses to his knees, Kasady lunges to strike, but Venom steps in and tackles Kasady, launching them both through a window. MJ races to Spidey’s side and embraces him while Carnage and Venom battle it out in the streets below. again, it is MJ that brings Peter back to readiness, and he joins Venom in defeating Carnage. Venom absorbs Carnage, eliminating the threat, and then, without giving Peter a chance, devours Kasady’s brains (obviously not shown graphically). Parker, horrified, condemns Venom, who claims that his actions were justified. John himself reverts back and realizes his mistake. Spidey begs John to give up the symbiote, but John instead flees. MJ and Peter watch him leave.
Later, MJ and Peter are shown at the hospital, Peter weeping besides May’s dead body. in the meantime, Venom has shown up at JJ’s home, and demands that his father retract the bounty. JJ, horrified by his son’s transformation, rejects John and repells him, calling him a monster. later, at Aunt May’s funeral, JJ, now looking horribly lost and grief-stricken, confronts Peter, asking him about John. when John shows up, Peter panics, but instead John simply pays his respects to Aunt May and tells Parker of his new mission to protect the innocent at all costs. JJ, seeing his son not as a monster but as a human, begs him not to leave. again, John demands that he retract the bounty on Spiderman. Peter, seeing the conflict, steps in and tells JJ that he is Spiderman. JJ, horrified, is speechless. Peter walks away from JJ and John and over to Ben’s grave, a few feet away from Aunt May’s coffin. he then proposes to MJ, who agrees to marry him. as they watch Aunt May lowered into the earth, we see a flashback; Peter is with Aunt May, who has made him cookies. he tells her he plans to quit being Spiderman and propose to Mary Jane and start taking pictures full time. instead, Aunt May chides him, and talks about how Ben and MJ and Aunt May need not just Peter, but Spiderman, too, and that everyone needs him, even if Peter doesn’t, yaddah yaddah. end movie.
holy cow input, forget about Pitof, why dont you submit your own script?
get some new younger guy for spidey, make him a more wise cracking guy, stop his crying and get rid of the excess love. Make the fights full of nice hits and open spaces for spidey acrobatics like in spider-man 2. Get rid of kirsten dunst. The previous person’s movie idea is good ( if a bit too well thought over), but have spidey whoop carnage’s @$$ like he did to the Goblin in the first movie at the end. An epic fight would redeem at least part of the franchise.
Ha Ha rotfl kyyle23
Time’s up for all the team that made last 3 movies.
they blew it with the last one.
Re-boot the whole thing. It’ll be years before we see another movie who-ever makes it, so good point to move on; like hulk, batman.
Spider-man needs more screen-time, i want to see him do more amazing moves through the air, from a different director, there was no scene in spidey 3 that made fans think, wow! there’s spider-man really up there on the big screen!
I hope Marvel take back total control of making it,but i do think Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes would make a great Parker.
Input, I loved your post…excellent and sensible ideas. In the comics, Connor switches back and forth from Jeckyll to Hyde. As does Bruce Banner.
Nothing personal, but when I get to people’s movie plot descriptions, I usually check out. The ideas are usually great, but I don’t want a run-down of a fantasy movie. So I check out. I didn’t read that part of your post. The first part stands on its own.
Also, my eyes can only take a certain amount of white-on-black text! [Hint, Vic].
On the other hand, analyze the giblets out of a movie/topic (like Kel and others sometimes do) and I’ll usually read the whole thing.
With Raimi, I think it’s obvious he was just out of juice. He’s spent the last 7-8 years directing ONLY SPIDER-MAN films, and its time to move on.
Plus, I don’t think his heart was in SPIDER-MAN 3. And none of the action sequences honestly impressed me. It lacked that “crazy Sam Raimi” type-scene for him to go hog-wild with (i.e. the operating room scene from SPIDER-MAN 2!)
Thanks for your compliments and imput, guys. Keep em coming…
Jamie
Jim Carey,
In taking your advice, here’s my bottom line:
Different director - but no suggestions. I always find that it’s the directors I wouldn’t have thought of that make the best superheor flicks (e.g. Singer with X-Men, Raimi with S1 & 2, Nolan with BB). The franchise needs a fresh take tho.
Toby is ok as Peter, but I would like to see what someone else can do with it, again possibly on unknown.
MJ - don’t really care. I’d like to a movie with Gwen and that actress didn’t have much time on screen but seemed alright.
Two musts - keep Simmons as Jonah and Baker and Conners and give them both larger roles.
Villains: Lizard for sure. Leave room for the introduction of a new character who can become a villain in the sequel. If there has to be a second villain, make it a minor one that doesn’t require much explaination, like Shocker.
I really want to see Spidey troubled and wear the black suit, hense my recommendation of Gwen dying.
I think we can accept a darker Spiderman film with a little more adult themes in his personal life. More than “wow, I’m famous and I get to kiss this blonde!” A little too immature even for a twenty-something.
Good stuff! Input-device.
I enjoyed reading that.
That would be a hell-of-a film!!
On the other hand, SPIDER-MAN isn’t anywhere NEAR that problem…yet. Sony & Co. could easily fix the situation with a solid sequel imo.
I’d love to see Tobey come back. But he might be too old and (more likely) will want too much $$$ that Sony won’t fork over. I gurantee you that supporting players like J.K. Simmons, Dylan Baker and Rosemary Harris will return for SPIDER-MAN 4.
Jamie
Great Job Jamie I would like to see more of these “speculation” articles in the future.
I really hope that there IS a Spiderman4. S3 was disappointing but the franchise can still be redeemed.
Another thought on villains: maybe have a Kingpin-like character to takeover Oscorp. Like Fisk’s son or a completely new character. I do like the idea of retaining the goblin tech for Hobgoblin. If not in S4, then in other sequels.
Heath nailed it in comment #1. Less of Peter’s personal life; we just don’t care. It doesn’t jive with the rest of the story, and MJ just isn’t that alluring.
Liz -
The romance can be toned down, but Peter’s personal life is key to the Spiderman character, at least IMO.
I could do with less MJ and Aunt May tho. Too bad the previous films didn’t develop much of Peter’s relationship with Connors, it would make a better Lizard in sequels. I wonder if Raimi ever planned on Lizard for future movies.
Rag on Rami, but he did leave the door open for Carnage, Connors becoming the Lizard, possibly even Venom. Oscorp is totallay wide open for Kingpin and the Hobgoblin (not Franco’s version) could be backas well. I did like Gwen btter than MJ in S3. She could be back.
I think Sony will pay the 20 mil for Tobey and he allways said hed be back if its a good script.
“I think Sony will pay the 20 mil for Tobey and he allways said hed be back if its a good script.”
There’s one of the damned problems right there.
I don’t pretend to know where the franchise should go from here. What I do think is that MJ should go buh-bye and that they should go back to the ONE villain formula.
I don’t want to see another Peter Parker in transition movies. Just show us “a day in the life of.”
Vic
Well Vic, its fun to speculate on how things should go with the new script. There’s alot of great Screen Ranters out there with some great ideas.
We havnt heard yet on any script concepts for S4. So we should at least give this new scriptwriter a chance. Zodiac was well done I reccomend checking that out…
I would definitely cast a younger actor for spidey, preferably unknown….take that subplot from the horrid spider-man 3 game. make Kraven this renowned professional hunter who hears about the famous “Spider-Man” in NYC and introduce the Lizard…keep the MJ stuff to a minimum
My opinion: Spider man had its chance lets move on to other heroes now please.
My opinion: Spider man had its chance lets move on to other heroes now please.
As flat as spidey-3 was, there were some great parts, like Sandman, the actor got it bang-on.
Also JJ Jamieson is perfect too yet not fully used to full potential.
The new Green Goblin was crap, Venom looked good but was obviously thrown in with no real care.
learn leasons from 3 and give us a cracking spidey 4!
Forget about the comic ramifications. Spider-Man 3 had some great moments.
Move on to other heros? Do you think that another hero will be forgotten if a Spiderman 4 movie is made?
Move on to other heros? Do you think that another hero will be forgotten if a Spiderman 4 movie is made?
Why would we have to move on from Spiderman? It isnt as if another hero would be forgotten if another Spiderman movie is made.
Why would we have to move on from Spiderman? It isnt as if another hero would be forgotten if another Spiderman movie is made.
Just replace everybody from the top down and start over.
just replace everybody from the top down and start over.
Please, NO MORE GOBLINNY characters, ever!
Vic said
“I don’t want to see another Peter Parker in transition movies.”
Oh man are you ever right. The Spider-Man No More, followed by the vengeful, unforgiving, dark Peter Parker, was annoying.
It’s the worse plot device. Introduce unique characters like (in Trek) Spock, Data, Odo, Holodoc. Then spend every episode with them on a quest to be more human, or, the opposite of what they are by nature. I agree Vic, Angst-Man no more! Spider-Man is Spider-Man.
Surma: You inspired a very logical two-fer scenario: Tales of a giant ambulatory reptile would surely draw the interest of a chemically-enhanced exotic game hunter. Spidey would be triangulated and perhaps shift from an alliance with Kraven, when he learns that Conner is the Lizard.
Oops, meant Mat, not Surma.
I’d have made two movies:
Spiderman 3) The theme of this movie would still be forgiveness, per the Raimi’s original treatment. But I would have developed the ARCs for Spiderman 3 and 4 and shot them concurrently. For Spiderman 3, I would NOT have introduced Gwen Stacy, but I WOULD have introduced Captain Stacy as part of the Flint Marko storyline. At this point, MJ’s career was still on the rise - now entering the world of motion pictures - Broadway was still a glimmer on the horizon. Peter still contemplates marriage, but that desire is nascent. Peter and MJ are relaxing on the spider web watching the meteor shower. They see the falling star close by; Peter as the curious scientist wants to investigate. Upon discovery of the landing site, Peter’s spider sense warns of danger as the alien symbiote emerges. He manages to web up the symbiote and places the specimen in a container (okay probably a water bottle, as even Peter Parker doesn’t carry specimen jars in his knapsack). Peter takes the specimen to Dr. Connors (this makes the whole “oh look an alien symbiote has attached itself to my scooter by accident” scenario a little more plausible). As part of the foreshadowing, we see Connors is experimenting with Reptile DNA for regenerative purposes - but this ARC is not fully explored until 4.
Harry plots revenge and watches Peter’s growing popularity as Spiderman. Per the original Spiderman 3, Harry launches a pre-emptive strike against Peter as the new Goblin. Peter tries to convince Harry of his innocence, but in the end, Harry ends up crashing into the web line and loses his memory. All appears well between the two friends. Meantime, Flint Marko escapes from Ryker’s Island slam, chased through the New Jersey Marshlands and runs into particle accelerator experiment. Sandman is born (robs a Brinks truck and for the money to fund his daughter’s treatment). Spiderman tries to stop him and is defeated.
A rival photographer, Eddie Brock - gets the shot of the battle with Sandman and sells them to JJ. He gets a staff job. Peter is jealous.
Captain Stacey informs May and Peter that Flint is the man who actually killed uncle Ben. Peter is out for blood - MJ is worried - but Peter says he doesn’t need her help. Symbiote, still in the original specimen jar in his apartment, escapes and bonds with Peter in nightmare state. Brock tries to take another photo of black-suited Spiderman to “once and for all end the speculation that he’s the better reporter than Parker” Spiderman breaks his camera. Spiderman battles Sandman in the subway. Sandman discorporates in the water. May gives Peter the old “Uncle Ben would not want us to carry revenge in our hearts speech”. Harry discovers the Green Goblin’s lair in the Mansion - his memory remerges and the thirst for revenge against Peter. Knowing he cannot handle Spiderman alone, he takes great interest in this new guy in town, Sandman. Harry meets Eddie at the ceremony where black-suited Spiderman gets the key to the City - pisses of a lot of people because he’s now an egotistical jerk. (Eddie is assigned by JJ to cover). Harry discovers Eddie hates Spiderman as much as he does. He hires Eddie to do a little “freelance investigative journalism” to find out all he can about Sandman. Sandman morphs from a sewer, pulling himself back together - more determined to end the life of Spiderman.
Peter continues to show signs that the symbiote is affecting his behaviour: blows up at Aunt May and MJ. Brock tracks down information on Marko - discovers he’s robbing banks for money to fund experimental medical treatment for his dying daughter. He tells Harry. Harry as the new Goblin, tracks Marko down as he watches his daughter in a playground. Harry reveals his identity to Sandman and says he knows the full story. He tells Flint that he has his reasons for wanting to “kill the spider too.” In exchange for his help, Osborne Industries will fund the very expensive trials of a new drug to treat his daughter. Marko agrees (again, making the “Oh by the way, I hate Spiderman too and we should team up to kill him” plot a little more plausible.) Eddie watches the meeting from the shadows and takes photos. Later, Eddie tries to extort money out of Harry by threatening to run a photo in the Bugle that “Harry Osborne, son of New York industrialist, Norman Osborne, associates with a known felon, Flint Marko”. Harry doesn’t take to kindly to Eddie betrayal and just about kills him. Eddie ends up in the hospital.
Sandman teams up with Harry, to exact revenge - MJ is the hostage. Black-suited Spidey handles them both (but almost at the cost of Peter’s sanity - he realizes that punishing Sandman for the death of his uncle is what the alien wants - he also realizes that Harry is in grief for his father) and sheds the costume at the end, helped by falling rebar steel at the Skyscraper construction site - the symbiote is rejected and finds a willing host in Eddie Brock (whose life has gone down the tubes because Peter revealed his fake photo to JJ - Brock is fired and still recovering from the beating he received at the hands of Harry). Venom, now discovers all of Peter’s memories and powers - handled in a jump-cut flashback scene.
Spiderman now free of the alien influence, forgives Sandman - who reunites with his daughter, but still has to serve time for his crime. Harry comes to grips with the death of his father and the two become friends again. MJ realizes the two have crossed a lot of territory and is glad that all is well. The newly reconstituted Venom/Brock entity, watches the events from the shadows. Shows up in the last few minutes and knowing all that Spiderman knows, kills Harry and escapes. Peter is left in tatters. MJ feels helpless to help him.
Spiderman 4) Introduce Gwen Stacy as new competition for MJ, whose career is hitting the skids on Broadway, Peter is still grieving for Harry. Venom begins to stalk MJ and Aunt May (endearing himself to both as the helpful Eddie Brock) - Eddie tells Peter that if he tells either of his loved ones of their “secret” he’ll kill them both. MJ now vulnerable, starts to see the sweet side of Eddie - Peter is drawn to Gwen. Peter soon realizes that this was part of Eddie’s plan all along as he yearns for his life - he’s jealous of Peter and wants what he has and takes for granted (Eddie was abused as a kid) - maybe play this relationship with his father out on screen. Peter tries to reason with Venom/Eddie and is just about killed in his first encounter. Not knowing where to turn he asks his old professor (the one-armed Kurt Connors for help to find some way to contain Venom without hurting Eddie) - Connors, who we’ve seen in the first few movies, is experimenting as a biologist in the regenerative powers of reptiles (in hopes of replacing his missing arm).
The alien symbiote sample (which is a sentient being with a will of it’s own) - (given to him by Peter in the Spidey 3) - looks to complete it’s primary mission: bonds with DNA from a reptile. Conners, not realizing the symbiote has bonded with the reptile DNA, injects himself and turns into a human Lizard. Spiderman must now try to save both Eddie and Conners from themselves. MJ soon realizes that something is up with Eddie and becomes suspicious. MJ asks Peter to meet her in the park - Eddie sees them together and is jealous. Venom snatches MJ on her way home (remember, Spiderman cannot sense Venom) - he takes her to the Empire State University (where Peter is a student and Connors is lurking in the sub-levels as the Lizard), he lures Peter into a trap as Spiderman. Unknown to Peter, Gwen has also followed out of concern and the final showdown takes place.
The fight between Venom/Spiderman rages from one lab to another in the Science Division and finally atop the faculty building. MJ is webbed up by Venom and is dangling precariously - Gwen figures out Peter’s true identity and frees MJ - Venom, enraged, strikes Gwen who falls to her death - Spiderman tries to defeat Venom but is overcome by superior strength - the Lizard, barely under control of Kurt Connors (wants to protect Peter, remember the sample given to Connors hasn’t bonded with Brock and still bears the imprint of Peter Parker - thus the instinct to protect him) attacks Venom, leaving MJ to pull the half-dead Peter away. In the end, the Lizard, also a product of the Alien symbiote realizes only way to contain the creature is incineration - he tears a gas main and ignites both who die in the explosion. Cut-away to Peter in the hospital who finally tells his Aunt May his true identity. Peter and MJ finally tie the knot.
Nice one Snowdog. Another cool concept on Spider-Man 3 and 4.
I’m sure Rami knew he wouldn’t be back and wanted to go out with a big epic film.
On the Lizard if I remember correctly he didn’t use reptilian DNA he used Dinosaur DNA…
For those speaking out against having Peter Parker’s personal mixed with Spider-Man, I’m sorry but that’s what the comic is about. He is supposed to have personal dilemas (big to him, small to the world) while at the same time battling supervillains.
The dark Peter of S3 wasn’t dark, but should’ve been (IMO). But S3 is in the past, S4 needs to keep some of the elements that made the first two films good.
Yea I agree Panda about Parkers real-life probs getting in the way of fighting crime! (It was a main theme in the comics)..
If “they” would have just made it not such a big part of the first 3 films.
With some good editing the first 3 films could have trimmed some of that out. But (IMO) Rami and the Studio wanted to attract not just guys 18 to 40 they wanted to make Spider-Man a date/Family experience.
Let’s hope Nolan dosnt do that….
Thanks 790. According to the Spiderman Chronicles (very expensive book about the making of Spiderman 3) - the studio originally envisioned a 3 & 4 back-to-back, but abandoned the idea due to the aggressive release date of Spidey 3. I think Sam had no choice but to fit all this into one movie. The Vulture was originally cast as the (Ben Kingsley actually in talks to play the part) - but treatment changed to Venom.
I’m spend way to much time on this stuff…
Yea its pretty obviouse that Sam did that Snowdog.
But critics aside I thought Spider-man 3 was real good even with all the mistakes.
If that’s the last one with Tobey they made 3 damm good films.
I wish Sam could do a real directors cut eliminating Venom. I wanna see what his original vision was for S3
The only way SM-4 would be the slightest bit interesting is if Joel and Ethan Coen directed it.
Ok, guys. My $.02: Main villan is the Lizard. But, while this mystery is unraveled. Felicia Hardy and her mother move into the old Osborne penthouse. While looking for the information on the Super Soldier formula that Felecia’s grandfather stole, a hired burglar stumbles on to clues leading to Osbornes other Goblin lairs wher he eventually finds what he needs to become the Hobgoblin. His benefactor allows him to keep the Osborne/Goblin equipment as long as he works for him. (Much like the animated series.)All this sets up for a future film with Black Cat. At the end of the film the benefactor is revealed to be the newly parolled King Pin. (Same guy as in Daredevil.)
But don’t forget we still want to see Bruce Campbell as Mysterio sometime!
Here’s my pitch for Spider-man 4. As far as who stars or directs I think there are many great suggestions above, but to me the key is it being written well first, then getting a director with a vision who has great respect for the source material.
Pitch for Spider-man 4 and beyond

Peter and MJ’s relationship is going along smoothly after the incident with Venom and Sandman. MJ is still working at the Jazz club but has been auditioning for more acting work on and off Broadway as well as taking the odd modeling gig when the opportunity arises.
Peter is doing great in his college work and is a senior about to graduate in a few months. Gwen Stacy is still his lab partner in Dr. Connors class where Peter is Dr. Connors #1 Student as well as his student assistant.
Everything is going along smoothly when all of a sudden Dr. Connors disappears. Gwen gets her dad Captain Stacy to give the missing persons case a high priority. At the same time there are alligator in the sewer sightings, and alligator-man sightings all in the vicinity of recent thefts around the Bronx Zoo and certain chemical labs and medical research facilities.
Peter and Gwen find out through talking to Dr. Connors wife that he was working in secret on a formula to enhance human cell regeneration, to ultimately re-grow his missing arm. [Here we learn the story how he lost his arm.]
M.J is still jealous of Peter’s relationship with Gwen although she tries to minimize it and “act mature about it”. However it is putting a strain on their relationship and she confides in Aunt May about it. Now that Harry is gone Aunt May is her closest family besides Peter. Because she has nothing more to do with her own abusive father and her mother who allowed her husband to abuse both of them their whole life Aunt May was M.J’s first choice to share her troubles with. Aunt May is close to MJ’s Mom who is now divorced from her father.
In the mean time Jonah Jameson is having a field day with the Alligator in the sewer story and wants Peter to get some pictures of the animal. Peter goes after the creature as Spider-man and finds out that it is not an alligator but some kind of a human-lizard hybrid. He has a battle with it in the sewer but ultimately looses. The beast’s strength and agility was a something Spider-man didn’t expect. In the battle he finds a connection between the creature and Dr. Connors. [he finds something from his lab coat] When he brings the pictures back to JJ he is excited and comes up with a scheme to get a lot of press, sell a lot of papers. JJ hires, the world’s greatest wild game hunter, “Kraven the Hunter” to come to NY and hunt the Lizard man. This puts JJ at odds with the NYPD and Captain Stacy who feels it’s the police job to find and capture or kill “The Lizard“ JJ’s new name for the creature to use in the Daily Bugle.
Peter and Gwen eventually confront Dr. Connors wife and find out the whole truth about Dr. Connors experiments, and the two begin working on an anti serum to change Connors back to human form before the change becomes irreversible. The longer Connors remains the Lizard the more Lizard-like he becomes, the more evil and ruthless, and animal like. So far he hasn’t killed any one but soon he will. We also find out that all the thefts are Dr. Connors trying to perform his own experiments in his new lab in the sewers to reverse his metamorphosis and become human again and get back to his loving wife. But with each day it becomes more difficult for him to think and more difficult to use the tools of science, test tubes, and pencils anything that requires manual dexterity. As his brain clouds he becomes more animal-like and more evil. Eating rats in the sewers and coming closer and closer to killing others to get what he wants.
In the mean time now Kraven has arrived in NY and there is a huge press event at the docks where Kraven’s ship docks. Kraven has a huge ego and has no doubt that he will capture the Lizard quickly. [I think Dwain “The Rock” Johnson would make an excellent Kraven]. Captain Stacy reminds him to stay with in the law and that he is not sanctioned by the NYPD, JJ bleeds the conflict for all the press he can, and Peter and Gwen realize that the Lizard must be captured alive before Kraven can get to him. Or else Dr. Connors life will be ruined.
So Peter decides that he not only has to come up with a serum in the next 48 hours but he must keep the police and Kraven from killing the Lizard as Spider-man.
Mary Jane decides to confront Gwen as she becomes more jealous of Peter and her relationship as they have been spending a lot of time working on this case to help Dr. Connors. As a result Gwen feels like she is causing Peter additional stress so she pushes Peter away. She tells him that she doesn’t want to get between he and MJ which confuses Peter even more as they are right in the middle of this whole thing. Gwen begins to search for the Lizard on her own thinking she can reason with him. She finds something in Dr. Connors Lab that helps her find the Lizards lair deep underground in the sewers. Unfortunately her attempts to reason with The Lizard fail and she is captured and tied up so that his secret won’t be revealed. The Lizard is having more and more trouble thinking straight and he is loosing his human side as each moment passes.
Spider-man heads to the next place he thinks the Lizard will strike a Medical research facility and catches Kraven and the Lizard in battle. Spidey fights them both trying to protect Dr. Connors and keep Kraven from killing him. As a result the Lizard gets away and Kraven gets angry. Spider-man confronts Kraven and warns him to stay away from the Lizard after he tries to recruit Kraven as an ally. Spidey finds out that Kraven has a blood lust and only wants the thrill of the kill, a new head on his trophy wall and his fees for bringing in the Lizard. Kraven is angry and warns Spider-man to stay out of his way or he will also wind up on his trophy wall.
This battle allows the Lizard to get away with another chemical to complete his rejuvenation serum although he has more inner conflict as the Lizard assumes more and more of his human side. A great deal of property damage and hurt civilians resulted from this battle and JJ goes to town blaming Spidey for the escape of the Lizard and also beating up the NYPD for not being able to handle their responsibility to capture the Lizard. Captain Stacy now realizes that his daughter is missing and starts a manhunt for her and the Lizard and confronts Peter as to where she is. He blames Peter for getting her involved in this whole thing in the first place.
Peter is also feeling the pressure from MJ regarding the whole situation with Gwen and not being attentive enough to her problems with her career. Again Peter is too involved as Spider-man to realize that MJ is on the verge of another big career step as a major model and has been asked to go to Paris to further her career. MJ can’t seem to get a word in edge wise to tell Peter let alone discuss it and her jealousy is getting her more and more angry with him.
As Peter is now aware that Gwen is missing he feels torn in all directions as he continues to go through Dr. Connors notes and works on a treatment. He has not slept for days when he finally comes upon the missing element he needs to transform Dr. Connors back into a human again. He also realizes that the Lizard must have a lair and that Gwen must have stumbled upon it. If he could figure out what Gwen found out he might be able to get to them both before Kraven does.
Finally Kraven decides to set a trap for the Lizard deep in the sewer using a live animal that he steals from the zoo. At the same time the NYPD also decide to stalk the Lizard in the sewers armed to the teeth to kill him on the spot. In to the middle goes Spidey with the serum to save Dr. Connors and Gwen before the others get to him.
Spidey has an advantage he now knows where the lair is and the others don’t so he gets there first to find Gwen tied up but still alive. She tells him that Dr. Connors is getting worse and that he left a few minutes earlier heading for Kravens trap and right towards the NYPD swat teams on the hunt for the Lizard too. Spidey show’s Gwen the way out and heads off to get to the Lizard and administer the antidote before he gets captured or killed by the NYPD or Kraven.
Needless to say they all wind up at the same place at the same time including Gwen who is worried for Dr Connors, her dad, and Spidey.
A large battle in sews where Spidey is trying to dose the Lizard with the antidote as he tries to protect Gwen and Captain Stacy and deal with the increasingly angry Kraven who now will do what ever it takes to kill the Lizard and Spidey.
The battle winds up above ground where eventually Spidey gives Dr. Connors the antidote and hides him before anyone can see him transform back to Dr. Connors. Spidey then has to subdue Kraven and restrain the NYPD and protect Gwen before anyone else gets hurt. When it is all over Spidey takes Dr. Connors back to his wife and warns him to keep this a secret. Dr. Connors agrees that his experiments were too dangerous to ever try to repeat and he goes into his lab and burns all his notes.
Gwen and her Dad survive as do the NYPD although some are in pretty bad shape but will recover. Kraven is ultimately blamed for, the theft from the zoo, the property damage and is sewed by the city and lambasted in the Daily Bugle as a menace along with Spider-man. The fact that the Lizard has disappeared completely doesn’t help. Kraven is deported and forced to leave NY but swears vengeance on Spider-man who he believes is now his mortal enemy.
Peter also finds out when he returns home that MJ has left for Paris to model and has no plans of returning. In a letter that she leaves for him she says that it is too hard being the girlfriend of a superhero but she will always love him. She says that she knows he has a great responsibility and she doesn’t want to get in the way of that.
Peter sits alone on his bed…
The end
Here’s what I predict will happen with this project:
“Spider-Man 4″ will never be made, it will go into development limbo for about 8 years or so and will will eventually become the start of a NEW Spider-Man film franchise with no continuity to the previous films.
Good thing too, IMO. Raimi ain’t coming back, and neither are Maguire and the rest of the cast. Sounds like it’ll be a NEW Spidey series to me…..but it won’t be for a while yet.
There will definitely be more Spider-Man movies, I just think that “3″ is the end of the Raimi/Maguire era.
….and I’d prefer to see the Shocker among other bad guys.
You are probably right about Raimi and Maguire being done for good (I’ve said that myself!) But SPIDER-MAN 3 made $900 million.
Sony is going to make SPIDER-MAN 4, like it or lump it! There’s just too much $$$ at stake.
Jamie
900 mil, sheesh.
One reason they made that much is because alot of people were happy with the storyline and casting.
I hope they do make at least 2 more with Tobey.
I actually have really enjoyed all the Spider-Man movies, even though I thought 3 was by far the weakest of the trio. I would love to see a Spidey 4 with Tobey as Spidey. Jonah is PERFECTLY cast, no reason to change him, either. I would LOVE it if they got rid of Kirsten Dunst as MJ. I thought they really miscast her in the role of MJ. Mary Jane should be HOT, she is supposed to be a model/actress, right? I just think Dunst is kinda plain looking. Back in the early 90’s I thought Hunter Tylo would have been PERFECT as MJ, but I would love to have them get a hot, unknown to play MJ in a limited role. I know it’s not going to happen, but hey, I can hope!
As for the villian, I really think it’s going to be the Lizard and Carnage (or a Venom return). I like the idea of Kraven the Hunter, as well.
In the future, I would love to see Spidey crossing paths with Daredevil or the Fantastic 4. I think the DD crossover would be more plausible (NO BEN AFFLECK, PLEASE!) because it could tie in the Kingpin into the story and in the comics Spidey and DD have both battled the Kingpin.
I’m certain that there will be another Spider-man movie, I just don’t think it will be a direct sequel to Spider-Man 3.
And Kingpin, Rhino or Vulture would be cool….
E gads. I just realised Tobey Maguire is working on Robotron for the better part of this year.
YES,YES,YES TO THE RHINO!! ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVE BAD GUYS!
ONLY THING IS I WANT TO SEE HIM SHOW UP IN A FUTURE HULK MOVIE & UNLESS MARVEL PULL SPIDEY BACK INTO THEIR MOVIE MAKING WORLD I GUESS THERE WOULD BE TOO MUCH HASSLE TO GET HIM IN BOTH FILMS.
THINK WHAT SPIDEY MOVIES WOULD BE LIKE IF OTHER HEROES COULD CROSS-OVER. HELL, IMAGINE A MASSIVE EPIC FILM WITH ALL THE MARVEL HEROES BATTLING GALACTUS! THAT COULD BE BIGGER THAN STAR WARS!!
I NEED TO GO LIE DOWN IN A DARK ROOM NOW!
KEL
You may be right. I think S3 pretty much closed the Goblin/Harry Osbourne arc. But I hope there is a Spiderman 4 movie, the beginning of a new trilogy
Going back to Spiderman 1, I would’ve added Liz, Peter’s, Harry’s, and MJ’s other friend. I liked the Goblin suit since its appearance can be described as a prototype.
In Spiderman 2, everything worked prefectly. I would’ve revised some concepts of its videogame though…to make it more canon-like and exclude GBA’s Lizard.
In Spiderman 3, I would’ve basically introduced the symbiote, not Eddie Brock or Venom, Hobgoblin, Sandman, and New Goblin.
Main changes
-Introduce the symbiote only to serve as being Peter’s struggle with love.
-Introduce Spider-Venom.
-Discard Eddie Brock and Venom until Spiderman 4.
-Have Harry and Liz ultimately fall in love.
-Introduce the mysterious and unknown Hobgoblin.
-Have Hobgoblin and Sandman team against Spiderman and New Goblin.
-Have Hobgoblin kill New Goblin.
-Have Harry save Peter from the symbiote by banging the ring.
-Make the movie and the video game very canon and less loose.
Villians throughout the Spiderman movies (1 to 6).
If I majored in Fliming, succeeded in flim and game directing, and directed Spiderman, then here’s how I would represent most villains in Spiderman 1 to 6.

Wtf????
my mane compaint about spidy 3 was venom his form was rubbish he didnt even have the famous tenticals that come out of his back. harry in his really cool suit (that should have been more green or he should have been the hobgoblin even tho i loved the look)died what rubbish is this.
Well i would have to bring back Tobey He total rock in spidy 1-3 and for the other actors i would suggest to bring back them back also but for a new villains for 4 would be the lizard since now that you introduce him i spidy 2 as Dr.Conners and the other villain that would team up with or against the lizard would be carnge, why not him i mean venom had great effect in 3 but why not carnge have the samething, besides he is total more destructive and dengerous then venom so i would agree to have the cast back for a more and better movie.
well they should just have spider-man venom and carnage in the fourth movie because im thinking that thats what the fans would want and it would just be pretty fricken kool
Sounds good to me DB.
Ok - last night I watched S2 and S3 back to back. I hadn’t seen either except in the theatre.
I will admit S3 was better the second time around, mostly becuase I didn’t have high hopes for Venom like I did the first viewing. S2 was still fantastic.
S4 could explore more of the symbiote, explaining a little of how Brock new so much about Parker (implied in S3 but not explained at all) and redeem the lost opportunity somewhat. Open up for Carnage in a later movie, but stick with an old villain like Lizard for S4. Really liked the actress who played Gwen
Panda:
Good idea that’s pretty much what I was thinking they should do. Three villains was a little bit too much because Venom was underused. I heard they’ll make a spin off movie with him though.
okay, first off i would keep the cast b/c everyone loves familiar faces. Same director and same everything. it would cost a lot, but this will bring in a lot. the villain would be none other than the lizard . peter would be just getting his life back together after the events in 3, and spending more time with dr. connors. connors new experiment turns him into the lizard in front of peter’s eyes, and peter has no choice but to battle him. the battle takes place all over new york city.d
I don’t think maguire was bad at all at playing spiderman. Word in hollywood was that they originally wanted freddie prinze jr. to play the character. I frankly don’t care too much about mary jane. if you ask me they brought that character in too early. They should have introduced either in the 3rd or 4th film. But in a movie needs a revamp of its cast it is definitely x-men. Halle Berry as storm? I don’t think so. When are the suits going to call on iman as a replacement. frankly, it’s probably best because i can’t see iman starring in a movie they has been watered down for 10 yr olds.
yeah i would love to see Toby come back as spidy, he is a great spider man, but Sam forgot the big issue, he let he’s personal thoughts get in the way, by killing off Venom one of the most popular enemy’s. So they should bring in some one who is truly a great spidy fan.
Ok I dont know how many of you actually read the comics then watch the movies but me for one am a big stan lee fan. Now you want my opinion for the 4th movie??? Two words will explain everything the 4th movie should be and you comic book fans will know exactly where i am going with this: SEPERATION ANXIETY
edgar wright sounds cool, but a bunch of guys would be refreshing. hell if robert rodriguez wanted to deliver us a fresh hardcore spider man that would be dope, but thats probably not going to happen. i think carnage would be nice to see, but if you put him in sm4 then hed be a hard act to follow, so maybe lizard is a good idea for 4, id say keep toby just to satisfy all the movie fans, and if they bring back venom, PLEASE dont mess up so badly as they did in s3 that was very angrifying. casting isnt really my specialty though, but i could go without seeing so much mary jane crap, maybe a gwen stacy twist is in order.
What's your opinion? Leave a comment!
