He dies while performing on stage, and seems to have had a long-standing issue with his co-star, Martin's Charles-Haden Savage. It sets up the next installment of Only Murders in the Building, which is now confirmed to feature another familiar face.
According to Deadline, Jesse Williams is joining the cast of Only Murders in the Building season 3. Williams, who starred in Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Jackson Avery, will recur as a documentarian who takes a particular interest in the case that the main trio is working on. Along with his long-running portrayal of Jackson, Williams has appeared in the films The Cabin in the Woods, The Butler, and the recent superhero comedy Secret Headquarters.
How Will Jesse Williams Fit Into OMITB Season 3?
Although there's a lot that's yet to be revealed about Only Murders in the Building season 3, it might be safe to say that Williams is not intended to be a long-term addition. Thanks to its Arconia setting, the series has an established set of recurring characters. And, in the show's second outing, those previously minor residents of the Arconia were fleshed out, getting about as much screen time as the main three in any given episode. So, going off the comedy's previous history, Williams will likely play a potential suspect or a sketchy ally. That was the role that Cara Delevingne filled when she appeared as Alice in season 2.
Occasionally to its detriment, a lot of notable names and even Hollywood legends like Shirley MacLaine have popped up for a few episodes of Only Murders in the Building. It's easy to see why: At a time when so much of television is overly long dramas that are ripped from true events, the mystery-comedy aims to keep things generally light while still allowing for thematic depth. It's a fun, high-profile gig for a guest star. Still, it'll be interesting to see who else joins the cast, and if that detracts from the elements that fans have enjoyed.
