Ong Bak 3 Poster New Ong Bak 3 Trailer

In case you are new to the Ong Bak trilogy, the new trailer for Ong Bak 3 should at least pique your interest. It is literally 60 seconds of awesome. From start to finish, this film looks just as intense as the first two installments of the  cult hit series.

Anyway, the film appears to continue the trend of not sticking to a single storyline, a la James Bond. Collider explained the official synopsis for the third installment:

“The legend of Ong Bak 3 begins after Tien (Tony Jaa) has lost his fighting skills and his beloved stepfather at the Garuda’s Wing cliff during the raid led by Jom Rachan (Saranyu Wonggrajang). Tien is brought back to life with  help from Pim (Primrata Dechudom) as well as Mhen (Petchai Sirijanya), and is able to achieve ‘Nathayut.’ His talents are put to the test again when his rivals – including the Golden-Armored King’s Guar (Supakorn ‘Tok’ Kijusuwan), the mysterious killers in black, and Bhuti Sangkha (Dan Chupong) – return for the final massive showdown.”

Mysterious killers in black? Final massive showdowns? Nathayut? Color me tickled.

The fresh story is not a bad idea, considering the action and aesthetics are what really fuel the movie. But I’m not alone in saying the second film was a weak sequelOng Bak 3 is bigger, faster, and angrier than ever, and (dare I say it) Tony Jaa is dangerously close to knocking Jet Li and Jackie Chan off their respective martial arts pedestals. Well, Jackie Chan is already off the pedestal, as well as his rocker.

Anyway, check out the new Ong Bak 3 trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments:

Ong Back 3 is set for release this May, which appears to be an awesome month for action flicks, with Iron Man 2 (May 7), Robin Hood (May 14), and Sex and the City 2 Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (May 28).

  1. First!!!

    NO no…. I'm kidding…. Seriously though….

I really like Tony Jaa… but I'm hoping he gives up the elephants and comes over to America where his talent's could be used in a movie with a real….. umm… what's it called…. It was that thing Transformers 2 didn't have….. OH YEAH… a Script. That's it.

  2. I'm ready for it! Bring it on :)

  3. isnt this a continue on from the 2nd movie?
if so then it makes sense (all but bought back to life part). because the black assassins killed his family and the king (and his guards) where the ones in charge of the massacre.
the 2nd one was good but it was missing something, it just didnt feel like a martial arts movie (probably because he tried to add a proper storyline to it)
still going to watch this though, jaa is one of many martial artists i'm inspired by 😀

  4. This will flop like Ong Bak 2. Tony Jaa needs to step out of his comfort zone already and make something new.

When he burst onto the martial arts scene, I was super excited. Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong were amazing. But Ong Bak 2 was uninteresting and this looks exactly like Ong Bak 2.

  5. Im a Martial arts enthusiasts and Bruce lee is the only one ive adored. Jackie and Jet didnt have that bada$$ness or certain umpf* that Lee had. When i saw Tom Yum Goong, I was convinced that Tony Jaa would def take the reins from Lee, but he needs to come to America to do it. I appreciate what he has done with Ong Bak , but imagine what kind of film he could pull off with a big Hollywood Director in a feature film.

  6. obviously you don;t watch tony jaa films, because he has never done a ninja movie

  7. I'm glad you said it, because I wasn't about to compare him to Bruce Lee. He will always be the greatest, if only because of the style of films they just don't make anymore. I'll root for Tony Jaa's American turn when the day inevitably comes.

    • i think he would definitly do better in america but maybe hes trying to stay faithfull to the crew he seems to do his movies with like his master panna rittikrai, the crazy bum guy and other stuntmen that he did ong bak with. i dont know for sure that thats what hes doin or anything thats just a guess.
but is the main evil guy in ong bak 3 tony jaa when there doing the stunts?

  8. Enough with the elephants already, they have been in every three movies. however, his skills are awsome.

    • Elephant might mean something to him and it might be a culture thing don’t disrespect the elephant….

  9. Hahahaha I literally laughed out loud…they sure do love elephants in Thailand

  10. I'm with you on him doing a feature film in America but at the same time Hollywood has RARELY gotten marital arts movies right since 80's/90's. I thought Tom Yum Goong and Ong Bak 1 were great because they were set in modern time. I just can't relate to the period-piece martial arts movies except for some old school Jackie Chan movies (Drunken Master 2).

  11. Imagine Tony Jaa playing Daken, Wolverines Son in the Comics, in the next X-men film! If he brings his talents to the film it could define his career and boost him to be the Next Martial Arts superstar

  12. I can dig that. A smaller, supporting role to introduce him to the masses. I think he would do great as the nightcrawler also (just paint him blue and he's ready to go).

However the next x-men film is the “FIRST CLASS” and he's way too old for that.

Maybe a smaller production American film would be good too. Undisputed 2 had some amazing martial arts sequences and was a success financially.

  13. Undisputed was pretty awesome, Voyka was a beast. Anything movies like these would be Bad A** for Jaa. If only…

  14. GOOD

  15. ongback3 is really good

  16. GOOD

  17. ongback3 is really good

  18. DUDE its his epic …. jaa will go back to all his crazy stunts after this you should enjoy it for what it is jet li did fearless Jaa is doing this and to tell you this is better then fearless for me anyways news is he is going to be shooting a movie with Donnie yen called Vanguard later this year and yes its a US movie Jaa hits hollywood…
