The thirtieth (XXX) Olympiad gets underway this Friday, with the opening ceremonies starting off the games in all their traditional splendor. In honor of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, we've decided to award gold, silver and bronze medals to 75 films which feature sports - both official and demonstration - listed in 25 categories.
There will be 28 Olympic total sports on display this year, but not all of them have been showcased in a movie. We couldn't find any notable films for the following sports - pentathlon, handball, badminton or field hockey - but there are plenty of great flicks that deal with a number of prominent sporting events included in the Olympics. So let's begin awarding the medals...
@gjpinks – To my knowledge Redbelt is a mixed-martial art film and mainly features Brazilian Jujitsu. I understand that BJJ is derived from judo but there are very few pure judo movies out there to choose from.
I surprised Prefontaine or Without Limits didn’t make the track & field podium. Chariots of Fire definitely should be the gold but a Pre movie should’ve been silver.
What about baseball?
Baseball is no longer an Olympic sport. I think the article is only including sports that are currently demonstration or official Olympic sports.
@Brandon – According to http://www.olympic.org/sports baseball is not on the line up this year.
Thanks,
Paul
Baseball and softball were taken out of this year and the following summer Olympics (2016) They are voting to try and bring it back for 2020.
Judo? You blew it big time ignoring “Red Belt”

and Goldfinger?
@gjpinks – Bond uses judo in Goldfinger as his sole fighting style.

Volleyball is incomplete without Point Break and Top Gun earning medals. If it were possible, they should’ve both gotten gold.
@ragincajun – Oh believe me, if I was choosing scenes that featured Olympic sports I would have easily included the films you mentioned.
Thanks,
Paul
Volleyball in Point Break? Where? When?
I surprised Prefontaine or Without Limits didn’t make the track & field podium. Chariots of Fire definitely should be the gold but a Pre movie should’ve been silver.
Oh and thank you for recognizing the awesomeness of Stick It. Best guilty pleasure movie ever.
I would think on the rowing one you would use “How High” with method man and redman, toke, stroke, toke, stroke.
