Olivia Wilde Testing for the Role of Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Steel

This past weekend, Warner Bros. made a huge splash with its announcement that Tudors actor Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel.

But what is a man (or a Superman) without a strong woman behind him?

Tonight, the scoop artists at Latino Review exclusively reported that TRON: Legacy star Olivia Wilde is in talks with Warner Bros. to play Lois Lane in the Superman reboot.

The confirmation comes from an inside source who is working on the upcoming Olivia Wilde film Kin, which co-stars Eric Bana. According to LR’s source, the dates of that film may potentially be pushed back depending on whether or not Wilde gets the part in Superman.

In addition to confirming that Olivia Wilde is in contention for the role, Latino Review is also reporting that Rachel McAdams is also up for the part. Earlier today, the Australian site What’s Playing ran a report that claimed Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, Dianna Agron, Malin Ackerman, Kristen Bell, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead also were rumored for the role.

It should be no surprise that Olivia Wilde is in the running to play Lois Lane. The 26-year-old actress is the right age to match up with Henry Cavill, and she’s one of the hottest stars in Hollywood. Anytime a new female part is being debated, it seems like Wilde is in the discussion.

Likewise, Rachel McAdams could be another favorite for the role. At 32, McAdams is older than Cavill, but she doesn’t look her age and she has much more of a traditional Lois Lane look. The question is, what kind of Lois Lane does Zack Snyder want to bring to the big screen?

For what it’s worth, I think both Wilde and McAdams would make a good Lois Lane. With the former, you get an edgier more modern look for the character. With the latter, you get a look that better fits the traditional/serious reporter Lois Lane. Either one could be a strong casting decision.

With rumors openly floating around the web and auditions in full swing, I’m willing to bet that we’ll hear lots of casting news from Superman in the coming weeks. Ironically, I’m actually more interested in hearing what the film will actually be about.

In the past, Zack Snyder has said that the movie will follow the early days of Superman, but won’t be based on any specific comics. Apart from that, we know that General Zod isn’t the villain in the movie, and that’s about it.

We’ll be on full Lois Lane alert here at Screen Rant until the part is officially cast. Check back often for the latest news on Superman: Man of Steel.

  1. I think Evangeline Lilly.is the perfect pick for lois. it seems they are always trying to cast Lois as a stick figure, very skinny, when in basically all comics she is very voluptuous. I think Smallvilles erica durance has a great look for Lois but she is already in Smallville and they wont recycle characters.

  2. I think McAdams is closer to the right look, Wilde is closer to the right swagger and sharpness, and both have the skills, so I’d be all for either one.

  3. Yes, Please.

  4. Olivia Wilde has the physique of a ten year old boy, not curvy enough for Lois Lane. Erica Durance has already said that she is not interested in doing Lois Lane without Tom Welling as her Clark Kent; that being said I vote Daniella Ruah.

  5. Evan Rachel Wood would be an awesome Lois Lane! Would prefer her to any of the above listed

  6. Ok. People Mag is confirming KStew’s rep says that she never met with anyone or was even approached for Lois Lane.

  7. No offense but I am really glad no one on here actually does casting. I have seen some real winners on here, lol.

    • lolol yep

  8. I would say if either Evan Rachel Wood or Kristen Bell died their hair brown they would both be aweeesome choices for Lois Lane.

That said between McAdams and Wilde I’d have to go with Wilde …

  9. That is to say I’m picturing Evan Rachel Wood’s character in the Wrestler and Kristen Bell in Fanboys. Both are very attractive and have proven they can carry the demeanor of a character like Lois Lane

  10. AHH!!! This is a hard choice….I’m gonna go with McAdams

  11. Olivia Wilde is up and coming I wouldn’t mind her at all. Plus, I read both of her parents are journalist. So she wouldn’t need to do any research on that end. Rachel McAdams could work as well her performance in “State of Play” is pretty good. I guess we will all have to sit back and wait.

  12. Yes please and Thank you! She carried Tron by her looks alone. ( and besides Mr. Bridge’s talent) saved a dull adventure. Screen test and SIGN!!!

  13. Olivia Wilde is perfect, I love the traditional looks of characters but it is time to move on from the Silver Age look to the modern comics looks of the characters which Olivia Wilde fits perfectly. I am glad that Snyder seems to be going a different way with characters so far. Cavil was my favorite going into the casting and Olivia Wilde is perfect, I cannot wait for this film!

  14. On the subject of Lois Lane, she needs to know that Clark is Superman!

  15. She’d be a good choice

  16. shes a good choice but ehhh

  17. Rachel McAdams PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • roger that

  18. olivia wilde as lois lane and alice eve as ursula

  19. Erica Durance IS Lois Lane.

But since she won’t be cast, or accept without the very wooden Tom Welling (don’t kill me, I love Smallville…but his “acting”is horrid at best)…I would prefer they cast someone a little outside of the box.

In no particular order: Mila Kunis, Rashida Jones, Evangaline Lilly, and/or Michelle Monaghan would be inspired choices for LL.

  20. PLEASE Olivia Widle or Rachel McAdams for LOIS! Amy Adams is a perfect Lana Lang, she is her. I grew up with Clark and Lois as Margot Kidder, fast talkin’ smokin’ tough and shrewd with a mind for trouble, not a red head sweetheart. Amy is LANA!

  21. i wish olivia wilde that got 2 play tha role as lois lane, she looks tha same like her,she would b perfect & great B+J
