It's been twenty-two years since Oliver Stone introduced the world to Gordon Gekko and the now-infamous (and often misquoted) catch phrase, "Greed...for lack of a better word...is good" in his excellent financial drama Wall Street. The sequel, Wall Street: Money Never Sleep, recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France and is receiving mixed reviews so far.

In a recent interview, Reuters spoke with writer/director Oliver Stone and asked him if we might see yet another sequel twenty-two years from now.

"Why not? We left it open at the end in a way on which we can hang a "Wall Street 3." We'll have Gekko back and maybe Josh Brolin, too."

I'm a Michael Douglas fan, but in the year 2032 the actor will be 88 years old. I'm not sure how threatening Gordon Gekko can be from a nursing home. Others have suggested that if Wall Street 2 is a financial success for 20th Century Fox, perhaps we won't have to wait that long to see Gekko and company up on the big screen one more time.

I'm a huge fan of Stone's original film, so I have high hopes for Wall Street 2 - both in terms of overall quality, and as an opportunity for Shia LaBeouf to regain some favor in the public eye after Transformers 2. I think the kid has a lot of talent and I'm hoping that being surrounded by quality actors like Michael Douglas, Josh Brolin, Susan Sarandon and Frank Langella will bring the best out of him.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was initially set to open earlier this year, but has since been pushed back to a September 24th, 2010 release date.
