I’ve had the opportunity to sit in on 2 separate screenings of “Ninja Assassins” early this year. Both times I signed a confidentiality agreement not talk about the actual film. But from what I saw – I have to say its the best mainstream Ninja flick i’ve seen since the 80s. Hats off to James McTeigue – very well done !

John, the reason you never seen a good ninja movie is because the term ninja is clouded in gimmick. People think they can attach the word ninja or the supposed look of a ninja and it will automatically be “cool.” When movie makers rely on gimmicks such as these, it often means they are not doing much with the story. And not to knock this movie since I don’t know anything about it, but another one of these terms that is often used as a gimmick is assassin. This title has both… but maybe they are not relying on the gimmick this time, who knows… Keep your fingers crossed.

I have not seen a good ninja movie yet. I suppose one could reason that TDK was a ninja movie where the protagonist decided not to be part of the assassin organization, which would make one good ninja movie out of the many I have seen. The video I saw of them training was cool, so hopefully this will break the streak of sorry ninja films.
