[Update: Get a look at the new international teaser poster HERE]

There is a new movie coming out next year, a sequel really, that many of you may not have heard of yet. It’s about this dude with a heart condition that builds this suit to help him right wrongs and fight evil. He owns a weapons manufacturing company, is a super-genius and has hot women fawning all over him – basically it’s my biography.

OK, fine, the movie is Iron Man 2 and it’s one of the most anticipated films of 2010. Long after the effects of New Moon have waned and Avatar has been released on Blu-ray, Iron Man 2 will swoop in and kick the summer movie season off with a big repulsor blast.

Every movie geek was screaming like a teenage girl at a midnight showing of Twilight when War Machine made his first appearance this year at Comic Con. Now, thanks to Yahoo! Movies, we have our first true image of War Machine, played by Don Cheadle, standing back-to-back with Iron Man in the first official poster released by Jon Favreau, Marvel Studios and Paramount.

Here is one more image from Toy Chest News that shows Cheadle in the War Machine armor. Sure it’s a bust shot and a marquette, but it shows good detail. It also shows us that we will get to see Cheadle’s face while in the armor, which would be consistent with the Iron Man armor models. The toy figure will not be available for sale until February 2010 but if you are into collecting movie figures, then it’s a steal at $19.99.

Iron Man 2 is going to be a show-stopper next year. The film also stars Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, of course Don Cheadle as War Machine and Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts.

Update: Speaking of Black Widow and Whiplash, check out this new gallery of hi-res photos released by Paramount!

Iron Man 2 is going to be a show stopper next year. Unless Favreau kills off Tony Stark, makes War Machine a bi-sexual or something else completely off kilter, then I predict it will be a huge blockbuster. It’s safe to say that Iron Man helped to re-establish Robert Downy Jr. as a hot commodity in Hollywood with his performance as Tony Stark. Iron Man 2 also stars Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, of course Don Cheadle as War Machine and Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts.

  1. Whoops, it was the Telepresence armor, not an LMD!

  2. Still not too excited about Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow. Sure she’s HOT but I’m still disapointed that they could’t find a way to get Emily Blunt aboard. We’ll have to wait and see how well Johansson does and if she aint amazing then hopefully they can still get Emily Blunt to still play as Black Widow in the following movies. Another thing is the Black Widow suit doesn’t look high tech enough. I need to see more gadgets. Yeah she looks incredibly hot in it but it doesn’t say much other than that. Lets see how well she does a Russian accent around her own russian comrades too. If Whiplash doesn’t get the abiltity to fly later in his upgrade, that will be corny as hell. And the suit needs to cover his whole body and not leave parts of his flesh exposed. Looking foward very much to the the “Easter Egg” surprise at the end and some surprise cameos!!!

  3. This film looks awesome. Robert Downey Jnr was the perfect actor for the lead role.

  4. War Machine isnt one of the villains.

Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansen and Sam Rockwell are playing the villains.

  5. Awesome…..looking forward to the movie although it’ll be tough to duplicate the success of Iron Man.

SJ and Samuel Jackson add a little more star power. It should change the dynamic of the series.

  6. WOW! This poster is AMAZING! Brings tears to my eyes being a very acute fan of IM and Warmachine. Head will explode and faces will melt when the true teaser comes out. Definitely will be king of 2010.

  7. @DrSam

I’m willing to bet that War Machine starts off as not necessarily a villain but an opponent of Ironman for sure. I think it would be fun seeing them duke it out a bit.

  8. OMFG, i just drooled….. WOW, awesome!!!!

  9. @Zipper

And you must be loving that in the comics right now they’ve turned Rhodey into a freaking CYBORG.

    Ugh.

    Vic

  10. Nurse! New pants! Stat!

  11. @ Vic

You have no idea how much that ticked me off when they made Rhodey into a cyborg. Heck, might as well call him Cyborg.

  12. I agree with whoever said Scarlet Johansson is going to ruin the movie. I won’t take it that far but I don’t like the casting for her role. I like her as an actress but for this role I have a bad feeling. I was kind of hoping they went with an unknown (so expectations would be low) even if Scarlet is hot as all hell.

  13. Vic

I know you are a huge Iron Man fan so I thought I would share this link with you (in case you didn’t already see this) about the script for Iron Man. Jeff Bridges says there was really no script at all and that they had to improvise more than 45% of the movie because of the studio setting a release date before having everything ready for production. He says it was an incredible job by Favreau and RDJ to make it all come together. check it here:

  14. Dudes… I look great! ~ Stark

  15. @Ken J….

I had thought about going to see Sherlock Holmes, but… I’m not in the mood to stand in line in front of the multiplex on Christmas Day (I did that last year when my 2 nieces begged me to take them to see Twilight, and I really don’t want to turn into an icicle again, y’know… ;-) ).

Hopefully, the trailer will be available online so I can watch and enjoy it as often as I wish, and drive the folks at home crazy when I turn up the sound. :)

  16. RDJ is so built !!! hehehe he looks awesome, almost identical to stark :-)
and rourke looks pretty good to (although i’ve never seen a tanned/dark russian with dreads)

  17. I love it! Bring it!!

  18. Can’t get here quick enough!

  19. @M-cat

Interesting. I know there was a lot of improv… he may be exaggerating a bit. :)

    Vic

  20. Cyborg? yes, that blows…

Like I said, stuff like that is why I got sick of Marvel Comics. I’ll admit, it might have made me enjoy the Iron Man movie that much more. The movie (loosely) followed the first issue of Iron Man I ever read — #200. I felt like I was a kid again watching IM on the big screen…

  21. @Stephie

Eh, at first I was sort of interested in Sherlock Holmes, but the more I see of it, the cheesier it looks… Not too excited for it. But if it was Iron Man 2, I’m sure you would gladly stand out in the wind and snow to watch that huh? Lol, good thing it’s coming out in May though… :-P

  22. Sherlock Holmes is going to be sweet! I for one will be going to see it, not on christmas day though, because that would be insanity. Holmes looks like an interesting take on a real icon. Plus Rachel Mcadams. So tasty.

If Iron Man and War Machine end up being enemies, it will happen slowly over this film and spill into the third.

You know what I like about RDJ, he said he would happily play Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes for the rest of his career, you never hear Christian Bale say how much he loves playing Batman. For some people its just a job, and it shows in their performances.

  23. @DrSam

To be fair to Bale, of whom I’m not that big of a fan, Batman is a lot darker of a character. He seems likely to not be as fun a character to play because Batman is not a “fun” character. While playing Stark looks like it would be a blast. Given the fact that they are both billionaires whose life looks like it is more fun? Stark, no doubt. At least IMO.

  24. @INK

Maybe. But Bale never seems to have any enthusiasm for playing Batman either.
And while Batman may not be a fun character, it has still got to be fun to play, to wear the suit and be Batman. The next Batman needs to lighten up a little (not too much), before audiences start self harming in their seats!

  25. To be honest, Bale hasn’t shown much enthusiasm in his acting in ANY of his latest movies. He seems like he’s simply stopped caring or trying…

  26. Why do you guys think Marvel and DC both have 2 alike characters:

Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark.. both are Billionares, both of the characters parents passed away, both of them made there own superhero costumes both own there fathers company. One is DC and the other is Marvel.

Peter Parker and Kent Clark on the other hand work for a newspaper company (expect one is a writer and the other is a photographer), both superhero costumes match the same color Blue and red. both wear glasses in public but when in superhero uniform they dont. One is DC and the other is Marvel

The next two characters that are alike characters are made from the same company DC

we have The Flash and The Green Lantern..dont know much about them but I know when there movie is released they will be very alike as well.

  27. With both Micky Rourke & Robert Downey JR both being hard working actors who have come back from the brink of self destruction, combined with a director who has proven its about teh story and the characters and not the explosions and glitter, I believe Iron Man 2 has the potential to be what The Dark Knight was to Batman Begins.

On the other hand, with all this preasure theres also the chance that IM2 could be bad and that is my worse fear for I put Iron Man 1 in my top 5 of all time. It is the only movie that I went out at midnite to buy when it came out and I have seen it at least half a dozen times since I got it.

  28. @Ken J…

LOL … As much as I’m excited about IM2, even devotion has it’s limits. Like I said before, having to stand in line in the cold and snow for Twilight pretty much did it for me. Cold weather and I just tolerate each other, and the less I’m out in the cold, the better. :)

Something else I just thought about … with the success of the first Iron Man, the bar has been raised considerably — along with our expectations — for Iron Man 2. I think Favreau, RDJ and company can pull it off, though.

  29. Hopefully they are not just having so much fun that they’ve forgotten about the story and movie and it’s just them doing crazy stuff, lol.
