OFFICIAL Avatar Concept Art

Published 6 years ago by

We here at Screen Rant sometimes like to wait a moment before jumping on certain blogosphere bandwagons – a recent example being the half-composed images of a mech power suit that was allegedly part of James Cameron’s top secret 3D sci-fi epic, Avatar.

Well, good things do indeed come to those who wait: Instead of some grainy half-pic, we’ve go not one, but two new Avatar images – official concept art images – courtesy of Market Saw. One of the images is the aforementioned mech suit, in all its mechanized glory this time; the other is a futuristic aircraft.

Here are the two concept art images (Click on either one for a larger version)

The concept art looks cool enough, however I’m really itching to see these wonderful pieces of equipment rendered in the photorealistic 3-D imagery technology that Cameron has invented for Avatar. That’s really going to be the measure of how excited I get for this film. At this point, not even a trailer is going to be enough to outpace the massive hype surrounding the film. Gotta see that 3-D tech in action. Got to.

On a side note, these two images are taken from the upcoming book The Art of Avatar: James Cameron’s Epic Adventure, which fans of the film (or innovative film-making in general) can pre-order for themselves by going here.

Are you digging the Avatar concept art, or do you too need to see more (a trailer, a trailer in 3-D) to get you excited about the film?

Avatar is currently slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2009.

  1. Wow.

I am a big MECHA fan so this just upped my enthusiasm for this movie 10x.

  2. Those are awesome, but the first pic kind of reminds me of “the harvester” from the new terminator.

  3. Finally we’re going somewhere with this Avatar project. All we need now is a trailer.

  4. Well I’m going to venture to guess that the trailer will show before a movie that is going to be shown in IMAX 3D, so I’m going to guess Transformers 2 when it comes out June 26th as the first movie to preview the highly anticipated Avatar. Any other movies coming out after that showing in IMAX 3d that could show the trailer first if I’m wrong about Transformers?

  5. I need to see a trailer. I just can’t imagine technology I haven’t seen yet because, uh, yeah, I haven’t seen it.

  6. i think i am happy with these photos i know what to except from this movie but for the people who don”t know what is avatar we are goona need trailer for those people until then only geeks will like these photos.I can”t wait to watch these images in 3d
    it will be awesome experience

  7. The last one looks like the Hornet from Halo 3 :)

  8. Cool looking stuff. Nothing special though

  9. I am not excited about this movie at all. Not even a little. Maybe as I see a trailer or some info about what the movie is ABOUT, I can get a bit excited. But right now, nope, nothing.

  10. go to earlier avatar posts, it tells what its about

  11. Looks like something I’ve seen before in countless video games.

Btw, does this film really have massive buzz? Outside the blogosphere hardly anyones heard of this project…

  12. Finally, something, maybe this means some footage is coming soon, although it might not do it justice in 2D, although according to some people, making a 2D movie 3D automatically makes the movie rely on gimmicks, somehow the story changes from good to bad magically, so it might be a good thing?? lol

  13. Is it just me or does the Alien aircraft look like a smaller version of the machine aircraft from Terminator?

  14. I am a little disappointed. It looks like your typical sci-fi adventure film with tons of big machinery. After months and months of praise, I was expecting something a little bit more original.

  15. … something a little bit more visionary, such as “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

  16. So Cameron said recently that we will see some footage from Avatar “really soon.”

Any rumors of which movie might have a teaser for Avatar?

And for you guys who get headaches from 3D movies, just like with ANY 3D movie so far, there will be non-3D showings, so stop complaining, lol. 😛

  17. @ken

I don’t know, I’m glad the tech looks practical and “lived in” and isn’t the typical shiny white polished look like they prefer form over function in the future or something…

  18. Ok let me explain something to you people… this movie is simply going to be huge. This will for sure be one of those benchmark films that is suspended in time forever. The tech behind these cameras is insane. Cameron said it took him 9 years to create this technology. The same guy who did Aliens, T2, Titanic… cmon hes got something up his sleeve. Anyways, he said viewing this movie is almost like being in a lucid dream state… I don’t know about you but that sounds intense!!

  19. I seriously doubt that’s a legit video.
