After nearly ten years at Dunder Mifflin, there are only three episodes left in the ninth and final season of The Office. The series finale is slated for May 16th, so you better cash in your Schrute Bucks for some tissues before it’s too late.

Details have just emerged for the anticipated one-hour conclusion to the long-running NBC comedy series, and that includes a list of guest stars that might raise some eyebrows and other assorted interesting facts.

This final season has been very meta by showing the documentary crew who has been behind the camera all these seasons, and the finale will get one more layer as it takes place months after the airing of the documentary. The official episode description says, “Months after the airing of the documentary, the workers of Dunder Mifflin, past and present, gather for a wedding and a final round of interviews. Mysteries are solved, hatchets are buried, pranks are prunked.

Wait, a wedding? So someone who knows most of the employees at Dunder-Mifflin is getting married. But who? Well, the guest stars revealed for the episode might give us a hint. THR has former cast members and writers Mindy Kaling (Kelly) and B.J. Novak (Ryan) returning along with guest stars Rachael Harris, Dakota Johnson, Joan Cusack, Ed Begley Jr., Malcolm Barrett, Matt Jones, Andy Buckley, Mike Schur and Bobby Ray Shafer.

The last time we saw Kelly, she was getting engaged to Ravi, and that came after getting divorced from Ryan after a drunken decision turned all too real after a weekend in the Poconos. Could they have rekindled their romance? Or maybe this is just Kelly’s wedding to Ravi and they were kind enough to invite Ryan. If that’s the case, fans should maybe anticipate him finally claiming Kelly as his true love.

However, Angela (Angela Kinsey) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) have had a roller coaster of love for awhile, and now that the Senator is out of the closet, maybe their love can finally blossom. This one probably makes the most sense, but it doesn’t really feel worthy of a series finale.

Maybe after all the marriage turmoil and stress Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) have endured this year, they’ll get their vows renewed? That seems a little too easy and cheesy though, and kind of a cheat since they already had a charming wedding in front of the documentary crew. But there is one other possibility, and it would make for one hell of a series end.

When we last saw Michael Scott (Steve Carell), he was engaged to Holly Flax (Amy Ryan), but not yet married. Of course, Carell isn’t listed in the guest stars, but that’s the kind of thing NBC would keep secret. And maybe the listing of Novak and Kaling is a red herring to throw fans off the scent. After all, we know Carell was on set for production of the final episode, though his representatives say he didn’t shoot any scenes. But wouldn’t it be great if everyone was attending Michael Scott’s wedding, where he’s finally the center of attention?

Fans will have to tune in on May 16th for the hour-long finale to see who else shows up and how the employees of Dunder-Mifflin end up after nine seasons at the people person’s paper company.

The Office returns for three more episodes starting April 25th at 9/8c on NBC.

  1. Your prediction is all too good, and I would cry ifMichael Scott got married for the series finale. I’m a 18 year old dude and I love that freaking character, he is the most kind hearted, dim witted guy in television. It would be the smartest thing for the series to do, but I’m not sure if they are all for it. THEY MUST HAVE HIM IN THE FINALE, any way possible.

    • I will be very disappointed if Michael Scott does not play a significant part in the finale. Let’s hope all involved do not blow it by foregoing his return.

  2. A wedding wouldn’t be the same without Michael Scott, so it better be his!

  3. YES YES YES!!! IT HAS TO BE MICHAEL!!! I have some catching up to do on The Office over the next few weeks.

  4. It would be a travesty for Steve carrel not to be in the finale. The show made him the star he is today. The only reason he wouldn’t be in it Is if he didn’t want to be.

  5. I read this article wanting it to be Michael and Holly getting married and then had a “wait…WHAT?!” moment when I saw that Kelly and Ryan had divorced and that she was engaged to someone else.

We only just had season 7 late last year and I somehow managed to miss 90% of it with no clue when Comedy Central will bring us season 8 so that was a surprise.

  6. It’s gonna be his wedding, if not, then all hope is lost in the universe.

  7. I would so shocked if it wasn’t Michael and Holly’s wedding. For a couple of reasons:

    1. If it were Ryan and Kelly’s wedding, it likely would have been in the episode description that it was their wedding because we know BJ and Mindy are coming back. And Pam and Jim renewing their vows…just, no. That would be the lamest way to end the series, it would be so anti-climatic and fans would be ticked.
    2. Fans obviously want to know that Michael and Holly for sure get married and live happily ever after – I know that ever since Steve Carrell left the show, I’ve been waiting for him to come back for his wedding episode (and what better way to end the series?). And imagine Michael Scott didn’t invite the entire office to his wedding!! It was his entire life for so many years, he considered everyone to be family. Steve keeps saying in interviews that it “doesn’t work for his character arc to go back,” but I think the opposite – it doesn’t work for his character arc NOT to go back!

    • Yes, yes, a million times yes. Completely agree with everything you said.

  8. I stopped watching the show years ago

  9. Am I the only one that got excited last night to see Michael Scott in the flashback wedding scene at the end?

    A little foreshadowing maybe?

    • That’s the first thing that came to mind for me. Hope its so.

  10. They better bring Michael back!

  11. I’m in the minority in thinking that the finale can be a success regardless if Michael is there or not. IMO anyone who bashes the show since Michael left or has stopped watching has made a mistake. I think these last few seasons have been fantastic.
But, I’m not an idiot and I’m sure Michael Scott will make an appearance. But not for a Kelly & Ryan or Kelly & Ravi. My money is on a Dwight & Angela wedding.
Other than Pam & Jim they’ve had the longest on again, off again relationship.

  12. I called a Michael-Holly Wedding for the finale as soon as they left the show the way they did. I always said it would be the perfect and most logical ending to a great series.

  13. I’m gonna be so pissed if he’s not in it. Seriously he was on set that’s so lame if its not him!!!!
