If Kevin Feige and Avi Arad are arrogant enough to believe that it is the Marvel formula and not the magic and passion of Jon Farveau and Robert Downey Jr that were the biggest factors in the success of Iron Man….then Marvel films will get what it deserves. I know they can’t rush out and say that Mr Farveau will be the director without negotiating the deal first and I hope Robert Downey Jr won’t return if Jon doesn’t..Unity with those two will ensure they both will be back for Irom Man 2…They did a fantastic job with the first one.

I was one of the dweebs who thought Jon wasn’t returning; or, at least, hadn’t signed on yet. This is good news. Like GreenKnight said, it’s not Marvel that made IM a success, it was the chemistry between Favreau and Downey.

I don’t get surprised by much, but if Marvel & Paramount get rid of Favs and RJD I would be. That would be like messing with the formula for Coca Cola…..

Oh wait……….

I can’t imagine that Marvel would even think of attempting to make IM2 without Favreau and Downey. It was the hard work and joint effort between the two that made IM work…. of course, along with Gwyneth and Terrence. Jon and Robert both have said how much Gwyneth contributed.

I think Marvel would have a revolt on their hands if they changed anything now. Here are the latest box office mojo reports….. look at that worldwide total !!!!! well over $400 mil !!
And for an original !!! Wow, awesome…. ;-)
Domestic: $223,124,385 51.9%
+ Foreign: $207,000,000 48.1%

——————————————————————————–

= Worldwide: $430,124,385

Sorry… didn’t mean to slight Bridges and Toub … but it isn’t likely they will return since we know Yinsen died and OS disintegrated into space. They were both fantastic!!

I pray to the gods (battlestar reference) that this franchise doesn’t turn into the Spidey threesome or the X-men threesome - BOTH ended HORRIBLY providing two of the worst and most disappointing films I’ve ever seen.

Favreau and Downey are without-a-doubt back, no question. My question is what happens then? Iron man will appear in the Avengers movie, Robert Downey obviously must play that part or we have another Justice League scenario (the equivalent to child molestation). But, does Iron man get another solo after that?

Of course they’ll be back. And I’ll be back at the theater, too. RDJ was fantastic.

Favs and CO will definitely be back. I don’t know if there will be a third Iron Man film because of The Avengers flick (I can’t wait!), but there will definitely be a second Iron Man by this team.

Don’t pay any attention to the lousy rumors.

Look at the money this baby has brought in at just about 3 weeks of doing business in theaters: Over 430 mil. Heh. And they said this wouldn’t make more than The Dark Knight. TDK will be good, I don’t know if it will be as good as IM, but it will be better and make more money than Batman Begins, it just won’t touch IM’s BO take.

Funny thing is Favreau was the one that came out and said he hasn’t been contacted by the studios yet. This wasn’t a rumor.

Personally I think he’s just trying to spark internet buzz.
Downey Jr could make one phone call and this would be over.

Rob,

Favreau is VERY aware of the pitfalls of the third movie in a series like this. It’s one of the things we discussed and he actually thought that a better idea would be to do an ensemble movie (The Avengers) before doing a third Iron Man.

Oh please don’t let The Avengers be another JLA?! When I heard this film was even being considered, my geek-meter hit the roof; and then the after credits finale of IM…..WE HAVE LIFTOFF!!! :o)
