8 Bit Gatsby

Great Gatsby NES SR Geek Picks: How Oblivion Shouldve Ended, Superhero Life Expectancies & More

So, how does this sound? You play an online video game, and just by playing, you help send books to Africa to help combat illiteracy. Now, what if that video game is an 8-bit-style Nintendo knockoff of The Great Gatsby? See what they’re doing here? Timely! Anyway, the creators of the game, The Barbarian Group’s Charlie Hoey and Peter Malamud Smith, have partnered with Out of Print Clothing, and if you go here and play, for every 25,000 points you earn, a book will be donated to Books for Africa. The goal is to distribute 10,000 books.

  1. Loved the Oblivan short I have always wondered just how many Jack Harpers there were out there.

  2. Lol startrek model in space.. Those lens flares would make JJ proud.

  3. the hero one is bs b/c wolverine is over something like 400 years old (the exact time frame is said in one of the comics).

    • No, more like 200, he was born in the early 1800s. Wolverine Origins, I own this book, so I’m not just talking out of me backside.

  4. The Superhero info chart lost me at Rick Grimes. That Iron Man mod look sooooooooooo fun tho.

  5. The Superhero info chart lost me at Rick Grimes. That Iron Man GTA mod look sooooooooooo fun tho.

  6. Not much point in me watching “Oblivion” then. Seems basically to be very similar in some ways to “Moon”.

    • @motoko

I don’t really think Moon was the first to have a twist about a person being a clone though… There are probably half a dozen sci-fi movies where someone finds out he’s a clone at the end of a movie. That wasn’t the only defining characteristic of Oblivion. Sure it wasn’t the most mind-blowing or original story, but it was entertaining, and I thought Tom Cruise and the woman who played Victoria were really excellent in their roles…

  7. Oblivion ended just fine-why all this crap anyway?
Everybody keeps saying it has been done before, only better. When where, and by who?

    • @Wyngate

Oblivion did take inspiration from several different movies, but honestly, I’d rather enjoy a movie for what it is rather than try to compare it to everything else. But when Tom Cruise stars in a movie, expect people to try to find anything they can wrong with it…

  8. They really should make an open-world game with Iron Man/Tony Stark. That would be cool. You can be Stark, and decide if you want to fight crime or not, and maybe have different super villains show up every now and then, or perhaps even make it so your interactions with others can spawn super villains, or maybe help or harm villains without being Iron Man, etc. etc…

    • I think its be pretty awesome if they would make a game with any established hero where we can decide whether they become a hero or a villain. Evil Ironman or Evil Spidey? Hell yea!

  9. Celebrity mean tweets was AWESOME! LOL
