While movies continuing the story of the Skywalker family are only coming out during odd numbered years, the even numbered years belong to movies that explore periods of time and characters that audiences want to know more about. Last year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was about how Leia got her hands on the Death Star plans. And next year audiences will be given insight into the history of smuggler Han Solo.

And sometime in the future there will be a standalone film about Obi-Wan Kenobi. As one of the few characters to appear both in the original trilogy and the prequels, fans are certainly curious about the Jedi master who mentored both Anakin and Luke Skywalker - one far more successfully than the other. Fan Alex Luthor has a pretty strong theory about what he wants the Obi-Wan movie to be, and he demonstrated it in a fan trailer.
Luthor's theory about the time and setting is a popular one - that it is set on Tatooine during the time between Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. He imagines Obi-Wan Kenobi suffering from extreme guilt over Anakin Skywalker's conversion to Darth Vader and the death of Padme. In spite of his promise to protect young Luke Skywalker, Kenobi is struggling and suffering. Until a woman whose daughter has been abducted by Tuskens asks him for help, and his long dead mentor Qui-Gon shows up to teach Obi-Wan a few more lessons.
Rather than film new footage and try to recast Obi-Wan, Luthor edits together footage from the various Star Wars films along with other clips and footage. He actually relies heavily on the film Last Days in the Desert which stars Young Obi-Wan's portrayer Ewan McGregor as Jesus Christ. McGregor has a similarly bearded look both as Jesus and Obi-Wan, and both his costume and the desert setting in the more recent film are perfect for Tatooine. Not to mention that McGregor's aging in the last decade since the prequels helps set the scene during a point in time between prequels and original trilogy, when Luke Skywalker is still just a child.
Luthor's trailer fits into the timeline very well. In the trailer and in a movie synopsis he shared in the comments he even offers explanations for why the Tuskens are so afraid of Obi-Wan in A New Hope and also how the Jedi Master learned to communicate with the living after death. While Luthor's trailer may not be for the real movie, it certainly drops more than a few hints of what sort of movie fans might be looking to see. Including supporting the rumors that Qui-Gon may be a part of the film, that Ewan McGregor will play the role once more, and that the setting and time will be Tatooine during Luke's childhood. Perhaps the people at Disney working on the Obi-Wan film will sit up and take some notice.
