Numb3rs: David Krumholtz Exits; Signs On Fox Pilot

The rumors of CBS’ Friday night drama, Numb3rs, being on the chopping block seem to be true as David Krumholtz has just been cast to star in Ron Howard’s new IRS comedy being penned by The Office’s Brent Forrester.

In the show, Krumholtz will play IRS agent Spencer, who is trying to find nobility in his work. The yet-untitled pilot comes from Ron Howard, Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox Television with Imagine founders Howard, Brian Grazer and David Nevins serving as executive producers.

For those that are curious whether or not Krumholtz can play the comedic role should think back to Disney’s 1994 hit, The Santa Clause. If memory serves me correct, he played a pretty hilarious Bernard the Elf.

While Numb3rs is all but canceled (especially after CBS cut episodes from 22 down to 16), Krumholtz is still signed onto the mathematics drama and would return to the series if, by chance, it is renewed for another season. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be what’s going to happen as Jerry Bruckheimer’s Miami Medical (formerly Miami Trauma) will be replacing Numb3rs starting April 2nd.

Wondering what Miami Medical has in store for you?

MIAMI MEDICAL, about a team of expert surgeons who thrive on the adrenaline rush of working at one of the premiere trauma facilities in the country while drawing upon their wit and irreverence to survive on the edge.

There’s nothing like the smell of a new medical drama in the air. Not like we don’t already have 12 of those… It’s unfortunate that a series such as Numb3rs is being replaced with a cookie-cutter ER clone that’s… “on the edge.” Especially when Ghost Whisperer is still on the air after their 5-year jump forward storyline.

Luckily, the Bill Nye-inspired series has reached the pinnacle 100 episode mark, so the wonderful cast and nerdy mathematical explanations about how the Chapman–Kolmogorov equation can help catch escaped convicts will live on in syndication.

As six seasons of Numb3rs comes to an end, are you sad to see it go? Is Miami Medical a suitable replacement? Are you excited to see Krumholtz venture into a comedic role? Could this be Ron Howard’s new Arrested Development?

  1. Count me out for Miami Medical. I'd take another season of Numb3rs any day.

  2. as a math major this show made me want to pull my eyeballs out

  3. I just visited a site called TV by the Numbers and they said the decision wont be made until May.
Whats basically going on here is Krumholtz is covering his bets.
They said if Miami Medical bombs that doesnt save Numb3rs.
No decision has been made yet.

  4. Numb3rs was predictable yet exciting and fun to watch. I'm not a math major, nor do I even possess the skills to do basic math. As an average viewer, I had no idea if the formulas that Charlie concocted were viable or not. The surrounding characters really made the show worth watching. Perhaps it is time to move on though, but I will not be watching another medical drama. House provides enough fake medical terminology for me. I just hope another writer takes a chance on looking at another profession like a Math Professor when creating a pilot and writers quit going to the well with medical and police dramas (even though Numb3rs is a police drama, it differs quite a lot from the rest).

  5. Oh and David Krumholtz doing comedy is a great idea. I loved him as Goldstein in the Harold and Kumar movies.

  6. I agree with Dan, count me out of Miami Medical too and Anthony Ocasio needs to keep his mouth shut. He is spouting off about Numb3rs when no decision has been made either way. Who is he to say that “Numb3rs is all but canceled” Does he have some inside source that even Numb3rs executives don't have” Don't count Numb3rs out Anthony, Miami Medical has to beat Numb3rs ratings and the chances of that happpening are pretty slim.

  7. For the record Dan, David Krumholtz hasn't exited anything. He is under contract to CBS and Numb3rs. He is only covering his bases just in case Numb3rs is canceled. his first obligation is to NUMB3RS. Miami Medical has three strikes against it right out of the starting gate. One, it is taking Numb3rs time slot on Friday nights, which is a difficult time slot and no Numb3rs fan worth their salt will watch it, Two, it has to beat Numb3rs ratings, don't see that happening, and three it has little draw with a cast of virtual unknows. Miami Medical will be starting on very shaky ground, so don't count Numb3rs out just yet.

  12. I agree its one of my favoite shows too i will also stop watchng cbs if they drop numbers

  13. Numb3rs is my favorite show. It was one of the last things I ever watched on TV. I don’t even own a TV anymore after Numb3rs was cancelled. Everything’s on the internet now anyways.

It was a very well written smart show, especially for that timeslot and it still lasted 6 seasons. I hate how the ending was so chopped up and screwed. Just so disappointing.

  14. I think they should do more.season of number its just the best show ever I dont really like math but it just made it so cool the way they did everything I dont think that making a new show and ending number is a good.idea I love n I wanna it back

  15. Yah should really bring the show back I am watching the old seasons over n over I just dont get tired of wathing them but a new season will be much better I miss watching the actors they.are so good

  16. Diane Farr is the worst actress! Did not add anything to an otherwise decent show.
