After finally making it to the big screen with Jordan Peele, Nope star Brandon Perea is campaigning to play the Sam Alexander incarnation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Nova. Introduced as a teenager living in Arizona, Alexander would learn that his father's drunken ramblings about being a Nova Centurion were actually true as visited by Rocket Raccoon and Gamora and would met Uatu the Watcher after putting on his father's old helmet. Rocket and Gamora would help train the new Nova to prepare for an invasion of Chitauri ships and his future as a galactic hero.

Alexander made his comic book debut in 2011's Marvel Point One No. 1 with Marvel veteran Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness bringing the character to life. Alexander marked the second major Marvel comic character to take up the mantle of Nova following Richard Rider, with the former hero having seemingly perished while trying to fight Thanos and trap him in the Cancerverse with the help of Guardians of the Galaxy leader Star-Lord, though is unable to prevent the Mad Titan from escaping. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expanse through the cosmos, one actor is eager to join the fold as the new Nova.

Talks of who could play the character have swirled since Guardians of the Galaxy introduced the Nova Corps and the expanse of cosmic possibilities to the MCU. Recent confirmation that a Nova-centered project was in the works at Marvel Studios with Moon Knight alum Sabir Pirzada tapped to pen the script has seen speculation further fueled amongst fans over who could bring the hero to life on screen, with names including Top Gun: Maverick's Miles Teller and The Gray Man's Ryan Gosling topping many lists. Teller has expressed an openness to joining the MCU, be it as Nova or another character, while Gosling debunked rumors he had already been cast and sharing his willingness to play Captain Canada for the franchise.

While the Richard Rider incarnation of the character may seem like a more fitting approach to some, bringing in Sam Alexander as the MCU's Nova would prove a more subversive decision by the studio, taking a similar approach to the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie that elected to introducing a later version of the team as its main characters. Additionally, with Marvel Studios striving for better diversity with recent MCU titles, some of which include Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsAlaqua Cox's Echo in Hawkeye and Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Perea's casting as Sam Alexander would prove a nice continuation of these efforts. In the meantime, audiences can catch Perea's big-screen debut with Jordan Peele's Nope now in theaters.
