The Nintendo NX platform may go down as having one of the weirdest launches in history. It was initially mentioned last year, comes out in March of next year and still hasn’t been revealed to the public. There have been multiple leaks (some of which have been contradictory) and more than a few hoaxes, so while people think that they know more or less what the NX is there’s still no knowing with absolute certainty.

Fortunately for Nintendo fans, that uncertainty ends tomorrow. The first trailer for the Nintendo NX goes live on Thursday morning so that the world will finally know exactly what the NX is.

Nintendo of America announced that the “preview trailer” for the NX would go live at 7am PT/10am ET on Thursday, October 20 on Nintendo.com. It was previously believed that the NX would be unveiled during a special Nintendo Direct this month, but the preview is intended to serve as the official unveiling instead. A Nintendo Direct focusing on the NX is still likely, providing more details about the console/device and its launch lineup.

There are several things that fans will be looking for in the trailer. The actual form factor of the NX is the big one, since it’s currently rumored to be a console/handheld hybrid that uses cartridges instead of optical discs. Details of the launch lineup may be included as well, as it’s rumored that there will be at least four first-party games at launch as well as possible third-party support; a good launch lineup is important, since Nintendo previously claimed that the NX wasn’t launching until next year to ensure that there were enough games to play at launch. Other key details include the price (which is rumored to range between $299 and $399 depending on bundle options) and the system’s actual name… Remember, “Project NX” is just a codename.

This preview trailer is a big one for Nintendo, since hype has continued to build for the NX in lieu of any actual news. An underwhelming reveal could severely hurt this hype, and it could take Nintendo from now until March to get fans excited about it again. If there was ever a time that Nintendo needed to knock it out of the park with a video, it’s now.

Some may worry that the hype has already grown too big and that the NX will be just another Wii U-level disappointment. Others are excited, since the rumors suggest that the NX could be a major step forward in home and on-the-go gaming that would let players enjoy the entire NX library regardless of where they are. Either way, we’ll find out exactly what the NX is soon.
