Nintendo is attempting to keep a shroud of secrecy over all their ongoing projects right now. The company is keeping quiet about when we can expect that new open-world Legend of Zelda and whether it is true that the Wii U will cease production this year but most of all, Nintendo is keeping all cards close to its chest when it comes to next Nintendo console, codenamed the NX.
There have been several rumors doing the rounds about what the console will actually be able to do. From patents claiming the Nintendo NX might be able to be used as a handheld console to claims that it will have Xbox Kinect-like gesture controls. If everything there is to read about the NX is to be believed, then it’s going to be a magical device. The more grounded fans have so far taken everything with a pinch of salt. Then images supposedly showing part of the console surfaced and now, even more photos have now been shared online which seem to show in greater detail what the NX controller may actually look like.
There is one difference in that the new images feature a black controller while the previous one was white. Also, there is no game or app running on it, preventing any kind of glare. It also looks like the device will indeed have a prominent touchscreen with two joysticks. The uploader included a few key descriptions about the controller’s physical features, including the “feel” of its input.
“Only the upper ‘nubs’ of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom ‘sphere’). The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don’t believe this will be the final design. Haptic feedback is feels like Apple’s ‘taptic’ engine. Not like regular rumble. 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom.”
Nintendo is not going to be pleased one bit about all the rumors, reports and leaked images that have been circulating the web recently. In one of these new photos, a sticker can be clearly seen on the device that reads ‘confidential property’. In-shot on the second image meanwhile is part of a Wii U GamePad. Has it been left there on purpose? Perhaps the poster was giving a brief representation of size? Maybe they had just been making some Super Mario Maker levels earlier, or maybe the two devices can be used together? That last thought is probably far from the truth.
Unsurprisingly, Redditors have been commenting on the original post, pressing for extra information on what, if any, games the poster has been playing on them, if there are any other accessories that attach to the device, and whether there’s a separate console unit at all. So many questions, so few leaked images.
When the NX is finally and officially revealed, it wouldn’t be surprising if it looked completely different and this turned out to just be a prototype. But at the rate reports and leaks are surfacing, all may be revealed before Nintendo can officially debut their new system at E3 this June.
