Danny Woodburn Cast as Splinter

According to Deadline, Danny Woodburn – perhaps best known as Cosmo Kramer’s good friend, Mickey, on Seinfeld – has been cast as Master Splinter in the Turtles reboot.

As you probably already know, Splinter is the Yoda-esque, giant-sized rat and mentor to the Ninja Turtles. He’s also an incredibly skilled warrior, though you probably wouldn’t know it from his appearance and advanced age.

Seeing as Woodburn is known primarily for his comedic work – he’s been a stand-up comedian for 17 years – can we expect Splinter to be a more comedic role than previous portrayals?

Woodburn joins the aforementioned Megan Fox, Will Arnett, and Alan Ritchson, as well as Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Jeremy Howard (Donatello), and Pete Ploszek (Leonardo).

Are you looking forward to the new Ninja Turtles, Screen Ranters? Are you a little less worried about where the production is headed now that you’ve heard from one of the actors? Let us know in the comments.

Ninja Turtles hits theaters June 6th, 2014.

  1. I too won’t judge until I see the final product. I’m sure we’ll get a trailer by year’s end. That should be when we’ll at least have an idea his good or bad this movie could be. Until then, everyone needs to chill. Remember, Bay is NOT the director, only the producer, and last I checked, the director is the head honcho of a film.

  2. this is gonna suck

  3. Die!

  4. Why aren’t people “willing to judge?” Its not like this project is being made by some unknown creative team. Michael Bay is possibly the worst film-person in modern cinema. His horror reboots started off bad and got progressively work. He is an atrocious director. His screenplays have no heart or soul (or good dialogue, or coherence). Liebsman ius a known quantity too. How can you make something worse than Clash of the Titans? Darkness Falls is one of the worst horror films of all time.

Nothing against Woodburn (I loved him in Seinfeld), but clearly this means Splinter is going to be a jokester. Woodburn has a very comical voice and why hire him if you aren’t planning to cash in on his humorous aspects? This is terrible. I thank the stars that I am not a TMNT fan so I will not be personally offended by their assault on the property.

  5. I am going to let the absence of my money being spent to see this film speak for itself

  6. ruining the turtles, wow this movie is reminding me of Super Mario Bros. No amount of good actors can make a sh*t script viable

  7. I’m willing to at least watch the movie. I’m not sure how it will be, but I’m excited with Ritchson as Raph.

  8. I like what Ritchson said regardless of what his salary is or not i like it a lot.
