With the Nightwing movie currently in development, it's only a matter of time until Warner Bros. casts its lead hero, Dick Grayson. Helmed by director Chis McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie), the film will be joining an impressive lineup within the DC Extended Universe, including films like Flashpoint, Joss Whedon's Batgirl, and Matt Reeves' The Batman. However, for the time being, casting news is only as good as speculation, but that hasn't prevented the internet from fan-casting the character -- and Finn Wittrock (American Horror Storysc, Unbroken) is in the top tier of favorites.

Nightwing is a superhero within the DC universe whose real identity is Dick Grayson. Before taking on the Nightwing status, Grayson was originally Batman's partner-in-crime, Robin. After graduating from his sidekick status, Nightwing represents a considerably darker side of Grayson.

Per a barrage of requests, artist Kode Subject appeased his followers (as well as fans of the Nightwing character) by creating a visualization of what Wittrock might look like if he were cast in the role. Though not an official image, it's given fans plenty to consider while mulling over who they believe might be a perfect fit.

Despite the mostly positive feedback regarding this image of Wittrock in the role, some Twitter users were split on the fan-casting. For example, one user believed that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who played Robin in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Night Rises, ought to be considered. However, seeing as Nolan's universe and the current DCEU are separate entities, it's unclear whether or not Warners will want to bleed one into the other. Their intentions will be to most likely start fresh.

Adding to the speculation that Wittrock might have already been cast, McKay recently followed the actor on Twitter, prompting fans to embrace the speculation even more.

Speculation aside, what little information regarding the films that exists is behind closed doors at the moment. President and chief creative officer of DC Comics, Geoff Johns, stated that he has no intentions of issuing any information to the public regarding any future movies within the DCEU until the information is firmly set in stone. This means that any news regarding casting, production, or the like will be nothing more than speculation until it has his seal of approval. Of the little information that has been released, McKay explained that he is interested in exploring Grayson's past in the film.
