The marketing for the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake/reboot has brought back an old gimmick: during some ads for America’s Best Dance Crew, Freddy Krueger comes out of nowhere and interrupts them as a way to advertise A Nightmare on Elm Street. We have three of the TV spots here for you to check out.
The new Nightmare on Elm Street sees Robert Englund replaced as the terrifying and iconic Freddy Krueger by Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley (I was hating on the remake until that inspired casting was announced).
After being killed by angry local parents for being a child rapist and murderer (although the first trailer for suggests that the movie might go with the “he might be innocent” angle, which I HATE), Freddy Kreuger returns to terrorize and kill the teens of Elm Street in their dreams.
Now here are the three new MTV TV spots, courtesy of Vimeo. You decide if the “interrupting the transmission” marketing gimmick is effective or not:
It’s very gimmicky but kind of fun at the same time – but I don’t want to see it happen with every other movie that comes out. That type of marketing is well-suited to A Nightmare on Elm Street, with the whole “invading your dreams” theme – but seriously, Hollywood, DO NOT overrun us with these types of ads.
A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger and co-stars Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Katie Cassidy, Rooney Mara, Kellan Lutz, Connie Britton and Clancy Brown. It’s directed by Samuel Bayer (making his feature film directorial debut after being a music video director).
A Nightmare on Elm Street slashes its way into theaters on April 30th, 2010.
