The final box office figures are in for this past weekend and they show that Platinum Dune’s A Nightmare On Elm Street remake grossed $32.9 million in its first three days of release – that’s just about enough to cover production costs on the new Freddy Krueger flick.

Needless to say, Warner Bros. is already looking to develop a sequel that would see Jackie Earle Haley back as the metal-clawed Krueger – and yes, there’s a good chance his next killing spree will be in 3D.

You might recall that Nightmare On Elm Street producer Brad Fuller was hesitant last week to start talking up a sequel – especially given the recent death of his Friday the 13th: Part 2 3D project.  Now that his new horror remake is a hit, however, it’d probably be a safe bet to assume that Fuller will be onboard for another venture down Elm Street.

Warner Bros. distribution president Dan Fellman certainly is, having already announced that – although there is neither a story nor the beginning of a script for A Nightmare On Elm Street 2“[the Nightmare On Elm Street opening weekend] is the largest horror opening in the April-May corridor, and it just proves there’s a lot left in the franchise.”

It looks like Nancy and Co. won't be living the quiet life anytime soon.

For now, Nightmare On Elm Street scribes Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer – who will also pen the upcoming Final Destination 5 – seem all but set to pen the sequel as well.  Director Samuel Bayer – who made his feature-length directorial debut with the remake – has in the past claimed that would not be back for another outing with Freddy Krueger.  Of course, as he admitted to Dread Central last week, “Don’t rule me out just yet if there is a sequel.  You never know how things work out. I’d love to do it again.”

So at last we come to the million dollar question – will A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 be in 3D?

Well, producer Brad Fuller has already spoken on this matter and has insisted that he believes “3D movies have to be designed and written as such… I don’t want to shoehorn the story just so we can use 3D technology.  I do really think [a Nightmare On Elm Street] movie and the visual style would work well within a 3D environment, though, so you never know.”

Hopefully, a 3D 'Nightmare On Elm Street' sequel would look better than this.

Of course there is one other question – do fans want to see A Nightmare On Elm Street 2?

The Nightmare On Elm Street reviews seems to be mixed at best – you can read our review HERE – as the flick has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of only 16% and an IMDB average around 6.1, currently.  The biggest issue that a lot of moviegoers seem to have with the film is that it’s simply unoriginal, unimaginative, and lacks the charm of previous Freddy Krueger films.

But what do you think?  Are you psyched for the Nightmare On Elm Street sequel?  Do you think the 3D factor could solve some of the problems that the remake suffered from?

We’ll keep you posted on the progress of A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 as more information comes in.

  1. Okay now they have made it loud and clear that Freddy is a child molester. If they are going to take that route then will his motive be to molest more children or just keep going after teenagers who’s parents burned him. They should have just left him as a child killer, teenagers are still children and the killing makes sense. I’m guessing in every remake they make from here on then there will be no little children getting molested.

    • Freddy was always intended to be a child molester, not a child killer. Wes Craven chose to change what freddy was because of all the child molestation cases in the news at the time the original was being made. You say they should’ve kept him as a child killer? he never should’ve been just a child killer. This new Freddy is as he was always meant to be, a sick person. You’re not supposed to like this guy, you’re supposed to hate him. As for where the story goes from here, I think his motivations now are revenge for what was done to him. As Freddy said in FvJ “When I was alive I might’ve been a little naughty, but after they killed me I became something much, much worse” I think that will be the basis. Yes he molested children when he was aive, but that to him was just a little fun. Now he’s really pissed off.

    • Since they put emmet off twilight in the first one i think taylor launter would go good in the second one as a main character in it

  2. I think this original lacked imagination. But Freddy was horrific and comical. I think the original N.O.E.S. was the best because he defined horror like Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. After the 2nd film, they should have stopped because it wasn’t scary enough. I didn’t think Freddy was a Child Molestor. I just thought he was a child killer because in Freddy Vs. Jason, the little girl stated, “he loves the little children. especially the little girls”. And he stated, “the children gave him his power”. The only thing I like about this remake is that they tell why he started to hate the kids. “because they told the truth”.

  3. I love Freddy! The fans are there, we want a sequel! Give us a sequel

    • I love Freddy too!!! I would love to see a sequel but please pray with me girl and hope to hell that the next thing they make is decent.

      • @ Gina

What was your favorite sequel from the original series? Just curious.

        • Favorite sequel has to be Dream Warriors because to me that’s when his humor really took off. He had memorable one liners that went exactly with his kills. Like the cockroach kill, you can check in but you can’t check out. His whole personality to me started to come out to show how much he loved killing and how he loved to do it in humorous ways that just tickled his funny bone. It was nice to see a killer with a sense of humor. Besides Freddy the only other killer that made me laugh was the one in another older horror movie called student bodies. Angelica was kinda funny in her own way in sleep away camp. They should try and bring her back. Well they did try on dvd but it was a flop. Freddy vs Jason I’m sorry I wasn’t a fan. It was nice to see them together but I just didn’t care for it. I hated seeing Freddy look like a punk compared to Jason.

          • @ Gina

Mine would be The Dream Master. Other lines i liked were ” wanna suck face?” & ” Elm steet’s last brat, farewell”. It doesn’t bother you how girls get killed in horror films, especially that cockroach scene? Just curious. Besides Freddy, Chucky & Angela put a smile on my face with their one-liners with their kills. I was hoping for more Sleeaway Camp films, i heard another was supposed to come, but i didn’t understand why the last is intended to ignore Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3 which imo were good. Atleast the 2nd film was great as Springsting was good replacement for Felissa Rose at the time as Angela. I liked Freddy vs. Jason for what it was. It was too bad it didn’t come out before Jason X so no-one knew who would win. Plus i still prefered Kane Hodder as Jason who should of been in that film with Robert Englund.

            • Wanna suck face is a good one just saying it I can easily picture him sucking the life out of that girl in class. Nope it doesn’t bother me at all about how girls get killed in horror movies. Girls to me are more emotional and when you see a girl getting killed you are more sensitive to it. I don’t want to see a dude screaming his eyes out, it would make him look like a total wuss. Yeah guys have screamed when they are getting killed but not like a girl. A girl always ends up surviving in the end so it’s a fair trade. So how do you like the new look for Freddy? I get where they are going trying to portray a real burnt person but I just didn’t like it. He seemed to alien looking to me. I liked Robert England’s mannerisms as Freddy. The whole child molestation thing, I don’t understand why they wanted to go with that. In the past I heard that was the idea but was cut out because during the time period there was a lot of child molestation going on so they didn’t want to make a movie with a child molester, they thought it would be too insensitive. Give me the facts if I’m wrong. I mean to me Freddy loves killing, child killer to teenage killer to whoever stands in his way. I wonder now since it’s put out there that he is a child molester will he stick with that and molest children as he goes along getting revenge. I mean come on a real child molester never seems to stop so I’m wondering how they are going to keep him as that while the only thing he will be doing is killing. Do you get what I’m trying to say? Robert England is 64 so I don’t think he’ll be coming back as Freddy any time soon, it would be nice but I don’t see it so I’ve gotten that hope out of my head. You know they say they wanted to make Freddy’s personality darker but to me it was dark in part one. It was dark in part 2. I think his progression worked well. I mean he started out with revenge he was dark then after doing it for awhile like a regular person he got use to it, loved his work and found humor and even more pleasure in it knowing that he was able to kill any type of way he wanted to. Like everyday life. If you start to hate what you are doing you either quit or change it up and that’s what he did. Made it fun. Okay I’m typing way too much now so give me your thoughts and tell me if I’m ever wrong on my info, I can take it.

              • @ Gina

Im glad it doesn’t bother you because ive known few girls who found horror film’s girl deaths disturbing. On a different note, one of my ex-gfs wouldn’t watch Pet Sematary because of the way Gage died. She was pretty much one to be sensitve about things like that in horror films. I doubt she really liked horror films that much neither. I always liked girls fighting back in horror films, especially Tracy in Freddy’s Dead who faced Freddy with no dream powers. Looking back in all the Nightmare On Elm Street films, Freddy was defeated at the hands of a girl except in in part 3 which imo was Dr. Neil Gordon who really dispatched Freddy in that film. The new look on Freddy in the remake, same as you i understood what they intended goin with it but i didn’t care for what he looked like. Imo, in some scenes it looked like cheap make-up people would wear at halloween. He just didn’t look scary lookin. In the original film, Freddy looked like he’s been burned & skin pealin off. I get what you’re trying to say. I wished they could of started the film with Freddy as human, before being burned, to make it more different than the original. People might bring up the Dream DEmon stuff up but still, wouldn’t explain Freddy coming back in dreams the sameway as he did in the original franchise? Yup in part 1-2 he was darker & from there, as Wes Craven said ” He sorta gotten used to being Freddy”. He knew people better than they knew themselves. You’re not wrong in your info. I know you didn’t like Freddy vs Jason, but i once dreamed up a sequel to that film involving Michael Myers if you can believe that, lol. I found it would be awesome to see those 3 on film together before all 3 franchises got rebooted.

                • My fantasy would be to see Freddy and Pinhead go at it. They both basically have the same power. I mean pinhead has the advantage of being real anywhere but in a fight it’s all about their skills. I don’t think there could be a winner. Who do you think is the baddest of the two. I’m a Freddy lover but about this one I’m not sure when it comes down to a brawl. Okay pinhead is from hell, his job is to torture people and make sure they stay in hell or limbo where ever and he loves his job. His use to be human side is his weak side. Freddy was always evil from human to dream demon. Freddy’s weakest moment I guess would be with his daughter when he thought for a second she could continue with the family business. I kinda think pinhead is higher up with Satan than Freddy would be. Now I also wonder about Jason and Mike. A match up between them I think would be awesome but dang it would have to have a lot of extra people to kill because they both don’t talk. Talk about one of those old school silent films. lol Hell we can just make it a four some, the talkers vs the strong but silent types. I think four is way too many now. For the ladies we need a love interest I guess that could be Angelica lol neah that’s taking it too far….no wait I forgot about that chick the aunt in hell raiser, she could do it. Angelica is human she wouldn’t have stood a chance anyways and I don’t know if all the dudes want a hermaphrodite. Sorry if I went to far off track you just got me excited when you talked about everyone together.

                  • @ Gina

That’s a tough question. I think i would lean towards Freddy just by a hair sorta speak just by knowing he was trouble from way back to his childhood to what he became in nightmares. Both love what they do but in hell Pinhead would probly get the last laugh but Pinhead himself would be Satan’s own lapdog. Freddy wanted to kill his daughter in Freddy’s Dead probly because he didn’t need her anymore. In the real world Pinhead would imo have a better chance because he would be more powerful than Freddy & he could have Cenobites with him so it would be a unfair fight for Freddy, lol. A fight between Jason & Michael, now thing is we seen Jason die more than once but Michael never seemed to die at all in the films. So maybe pit Pinhead against Michael, lol. Id go with Angela when it comes to female slashers, lol. As for Chucky, they’d all kick him around like a football, lol. So you don’t mind how girls might get killed in horror films huh? Ok, How do you feel about a killer feeding a girl’s kidney to a dog after she’s dead in Urban Legends Final cut? Girl wrapped up in a cotton candy caccon in Killer Klowns From Outter Space, or a girl drowned in a outhouse in Sleepaway Camp 2? How bout seeing a naked girl getting devoured by creature with the last thing you see is her eye ball drop in it’s mouth in Cellar Dweller? Just to name a few ive seen that i heard girls nitpick about, lol. Id like to hear your thoughts if you don’t mind me asking.

                    • Lol omg I loved killer clowns from other space!!! I didn’t think the cotton candy wraps were hard core at all. Those clowns were funny as hell. I loved where he did the shadow puppet of the t rex and ate the people at the bus stop. The little clown had a cool kill with the biker when the biker said what are you gonna do knock my block off and the clown knocked his head off omg that brings back memories. That scene with the girl in the outhouse that was cool I think if someone would have thrown me in there I would have freaked out. The thing I like about Angelica and sleepaway camp is that she is real. Just a disturbed person killing people. I like how she tries to be good but as soon as someone pisses her off you are gone and it really doesn’t take much. How about when Jason takes the girl who zips herself up in the sleeping bag and slams her body into the tree now that was crazy. The last house on the left was gruesome to most of my friends because she was raped and killed. Hostel had a good scene with the Asian girl and her eyeball hanging out and the guy had to snatch it off to stop the pain. Man I love horror movies. Can’t forget Evil dead where the girl is raped by the woods omg talk about a stiff woody in you and the crazy part she was liking it for a second and when the girl locked in the cellar turns to an undead thing and it’s eye pops out and lands in the other girls mother now that was funny. There are a lot of nice lady kills out there. I don’t mind them at all. Heck there are plenty of men kills also just women of course are more sensitive seeing others killed. I love horror movies and I watch all types good and bad. I just watched rubber. Stupid as hell but I still had to watch it. Had a lot of nice head blowing but that was it. Bad taste is a nice gruesome funny movie. I’ve been watching horror movies since I was 5 so nothing really disturbs me.

          • There should definately be a sequel to 2010`s remake. I`ve been an avid fan of the series since i first saw them, but the original 2nd film Freddy`s Revenge in my opinion was shameful, i know a hell of a lot of ppl who`d agree. i`d like to see it done properly this time round. The actor who played Freddy in the 2010 remake was ok at best, it`ll take a lot to fill Robert Englund`s shoes though. Still though, i thoroughly enjoyed the film and look forward to the next outing.

        • wes craven,s new nightmare

    • good thing that u love him 😛

  4. In my opinion we do not need 3D for every movie coming up. The makers tend to spend more time throwing stuff at you trying to create the effect I don’t need if the movie isn’t good. What’s next, next time I watch a movie just to give me that realistic feeling is someone going to come up to my seat and cut me? We will see….Hell I hope not. lol…

    • I didnt think he was that bad. Besides its a reamake, they’re making the film from a “different” point of view.

    • @ben
Thank god someoneactually sounds like they have some sense. No Robert Englund No Freddy Kruger. It was so awful it wasn’t funny. Freddy looked like a burnt alien and sounded like a Batman character.

      • I agree mostly. I think there’s no freddy kreuger without robert englund. He really embodied the character and made him what he was. So I’m still left wondering WHERE THE HECK IS THE ROBERT ENGLUND?? I thought he’d come rescue the new series for his fans. We want the real unadulterated freddy kreuger back please.

  6. @ ben

That’s the thing about remakes/reboots. You can’t replace Robert Englund as Freddy just as you can’t replace Stallone as Rocky & Rambo or Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, etc etc. Not many remakes/reboots i found to be great as the original.

  7. @ Gina

Lol My sister-in-law won’t watch it because she’s afraid of clowns, especially after seeing Stephen King’s IT. Being wrapped up in cotton candy wrap isn’t harcore, i guess it’s just the fact people being eaten by the alien Klowns. I was surprised that one of the Klowns was trying to kill a little girl, came close too with, not sure what’s it called. In Sleepaway Camp in that outhouse scene, i think anyone would flip out, lol. Thing about Angela is she takes ” everyone should be good, or be tought a lesson way too far”,lol. That’s one of the best Jason kills within the franchise, lol. I loved it in Part 7 & Jason X. Lol i liked what that guy & the andriod said to each other when Uber Jason was doin that same thing in Jason X, ” He’s done with the campers. Wow, he’s good. He’s too good, he’s coming back.” lol. Have you seen Celler Dweller? When i watched House Of Wax deleted scene, i thought Erica Durance got killed & made into a manaquin in the movie, lol. What do you think could be the worst thing could happen to you outta all the films you’ve seen? Im glad you enjoy horror films because i don’t know many who do,lol.

    • I’m not sure If I’ve seen Celler Dweller. I have some what of a memory of an old movie by that name but I think it was in the 80’s. Something about drawings coming to life and killing. One scene I remember is this wolf like monster just slapping someone’s head off. If you are talking about a new movie no I haven’t seen it. From all the movies I’ve seen I’d have to say a hostel type movie for me would be the worst way to die. I mean come on they basically torture you for long periods of time just to hear you scream so they can get off on it. Remember in hostel I think part 2 I’m not sure when he told the man he could go and he stood up and when he started walking his ankles were sliced. Having my fingers and toes cut off one by one. Taking a knife and peeling my skin off. Putting a hot curling iron in any of the holes of my body. Pulling my teeth out one by one. Out of all the movies Hostel has to be my worst way to go. Everyone else kills you fast once they start. The scariest clown to me if I had to pick would be the one from Poltergeist. If i had to pick a scene to die in I would chose I think it was Nightmare on elm street 4 where Freddy uses the Nintendo power glove only because I love video games but I would have used some Resident evil moves on him just until he was done playing with me and killed me. Man old horror movies are the best. They even had better and scarier music. One ouch part to me is on evil dead where ashes girlfriend gets stabbed in the ankle with the pencil. Man that had to hurt like hell. So many ways to die these days. Just kill me fast while I’m not looking.

      • @ Gina

Yup Thats Celler Dweller. What did you think about a girl’s eye being swallowed? There’s so many kills ive seen, not sure where to start, lol. I would be more worried about how would be found dead, lol. In the Nightmare On Elm Street films, id say the two painful deaths would be being pulled by nerves from my arms & feet like a puppet in Part 3. And being burned & fused with a motorcyle as seen Part 5. I agree heartly old horror films are the best aswell as the music.

  8. I thought the remake was crap. Freddy looked like a mannaquin and this film killed the original freddy. Gardener? Really? Might as well have had made him an animal activist. It makes no sense to kill of great movies. They should stop with the reboot franchise and make a NEW nightmare with the real freddy.

    • hey dude people make remakes of films many are crap some are better e.g

      the mummy-better
the journey to the center of the earth-better (only cause the other one is boring)
the nightmare one elm street-better(more effects and better quality and no mistakes and visible fake stuff)

the other one of the nighmare on elm strt the orliginal one is good cause theres more films and stuff…

  9. As much i too would want Robert Englund back as Freddy, Robert made it clear he hung up his glove for good as he too old to be chasing after teens like he used to. I never tired of the original films, i doubt i ever will after seeing the remake.

  10. I would love to see another Nightmare on Elm st but you gotta get rid of Jackie Earle Haley, he sucks. If you cant get Robert England then find someone that can play the part and play it well.

    • Um, Jackie Earle Haley did a wonderful job imo. He didn’t suck at all. His portrayal is extremely different from Robert Englund’s and he didn’t want to copy his(Robert) performance. And I applaude him for playing Freddy his way and making him terrorfying again.

      • I definately appreciated J.E.H.’s Freddy. I think he was actually scarier than Robert Englund’s though let’s face it, he is the original master! I would love to see what else Jackie can do.

  12. Make another one and do it in 3D at the end of the last one when he comes thru the mirror and grabs Macy’s mom that would have been crazy in 3D and Jackie did great not as comical as Robert but he did could idk if I liked the storyline in the original and I know it’s suppose to be different but Freddy is a child killer not a sexual predator and that part made me sick and pissed off because I’m a die hard Freddy fan I think he is the master of horror and that made Freddy look like he was killing just from pure revenge but it’s clear he killed lil children not took pics of them and touched them! The gardener part didn’t bother me, but there should have at least been the little clip of him making the glove in the very beginning.

    • Yea i know what you mean but if you watch the interview thing with we craven who made the series freddy was supposed to be a child molester but he didnt know how people would feel about that during the 80’s so it was only implied that he was in certain scenes so either way he was a child molester they just put more emphisis on it in the newere version to make the story line a little more diffrent

  13. The gardener part bothered me little probly because it reminds me of one those halloween special episodes of The Simpsons where Grounds Keeper Willy spoofs Freddy. I wished the film opened with Freddy as he was, before he gets burned as if they were gonna do a prequel. Not show how it happens in a dream as it’s already been done. The ending i hated as it was pretty similiar to Freddy vs. Jason’s. Even little bit of dialogue was the same. Thing i liked about Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake was the first half of the film was different as the 2nd half was like the original but still new itself. It was too bad the sequel was bad.

  14. i wish there was a sequal to the newest nightmare ion elm street becasue it would be amazing if Freddy Kruger went after the parents that killed him in the first place

  15. I would love to see this but with robert englund. i really want to to be an actor since i was around 6 yr old im 14 now i i would love to be in a film like this to start my carrear off 😀

  16. I can’t wait. I hope the sequel is done right and with taking some chances. I surprisingly ended up enjoying the remake a lot, though it doesn’t hold a candle to the original. I think Jackie Earle Haley did a great job in the character. Robert Englund will ALWAYS be Freddy and JEH was outstanding as the new version of the character. He was extremely angry, bitter, creepy and maybe a tad bit disturbing. Well, both Freddys are terrorfying. Anyway, I hope to see him again in the role and hope the film does well like this one.

  17. I think they should make a second remake, but base it more so on the third movie from the original series. The original second film was not scary but the third had it’s moments and it’s lines “it’s your big break in tv, cut to prime time b****!” I also think they should play down the child molester sense of Freddy, make him more sinister and more mysterious. Once a horror villain develops humour fear gives way to predictability and it becomes a silly black comedy eg; nightmare 5, Freddy says to model ‘you are what you eat, Bon appetite b****!” as he feeds her, her own stomach. Anyway my two cents worth.

    • Agreed completely!!!

  19. First of all Freddy was a child molester in the original script but do to murders ( and events ) in the mid 80’s they basically took that element out and just called him a “Child Killer” — So making him a pedophile was to pay tribute to wes craven’s original idea… I hope in Pt 2 ( if they ever make it ) that they find a good actor to play Jesse ( played by Mark Patton in the original ) …

  20. wow really people i mean come on freddy being comdey is just plain stupid why call it a horror movie i want scares dark and gore no kiddy bs and 3d would just make my puke

  21. and jim the second freddy waz just plain gay

  22. make a part 2 please a lot of people love Freddy!!!!! part 2! part 2! part 2!

  23. I think they should make a game about A Nightmare On Elm Street where you play as all of the characters and it should be exactly like the movie but in the end you have to find a way to kill freddy think about it it would make alot of money cause most people play video games so why not give it a try and it should be made for xbox 360 and PS3

  24. when i read this i about fainted i am madly in love with nightmare on elm street I WOULD KILL TO SEE IT IN 3D!!!!

  25. oh and one more thing…i think hes right about the new freddy not haveing the charm as the old freddy does…the new needs to atleast have a creative way to kill his victoms like useing there worst fears agenst them or there weaknesses…and the only thing that pissed me off about the remake was freddys dident ruin the movie…just botherd me a little…but other then that IT WAS BAD ASS

  26. There is only one Freddy. If he isn’t playing the part then leave it alone. It is not even close!

  27. I want to see this happen I am a true nightmare on elm street fan

  28. all im gonna say is that this new freddy…., sucked! englund will and always be my pick. Hell i could’ve played a better freddy than that! good luck on a part 2 remake!

  29. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for there to be a nightmare on elm street 2! I never cared for the old ones, but the remake was amazing and is my favorite movie. I watch it all the time!
